  1. That doesn't add up to me. I've been involved in plenty of volunteer roles (with varying degrees of responsibility) for the last 15+ years and they've been something I and the other people involved with have had a real passion for (why else would you volunteer to be involved in something?) I've recently seen a project worth £850k be completed by a 'steering' group of 12 volunteers; some who were retired, some working full time and others part time. There was a clear goal and a clear path set out from the start as to how it was going to work and it was communicated to all involved. It was crystal clear from the very beginning what was expected of everyone involved and this was cascaded out to all the members and parties who were going to be part of the whole project. If it's something you really care about & want to succeed you should be advocating it at every possible opportunity and communicating effectively and often with the people involved to ensure that it does succeed. The differences between the two 'Projects' (the Society and the one I've experience of) are profound. The main one - for me, anyway - is clear. Effective, frequent and concise communication of objectives, requirements and milestones is key to any project succeeding. Based on comments from people on here over and others that I know, I don't think that comes across in any way, shape or form with the Society now, last year or since it was started. Also, if the people heading up everything haven't got the time to give over to the Society and ensure it's a success, they shouldn't be in those positions in the first place and should have the integrity to stand up and admit to that and ask for help from the pool of members that are there, many of whom will have exactly the type of experience required to help it to succeed, but aren't being engaged at all.
  2. Was that not the night Fir Park was struck by lightning during McGhee's interview and he visibly shat his pants with Chick Young on the other side of the camera? The power surge fried the PC at my mum and dad's a street away.

Probably about the same as Leicester had to win the Premiership at the start of the season... Oh.
  4. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here; but I didn't think all Stewards are allowed to 'restrain' people? Something to do with training/insurance etc. that only a certain few have.
  5. I was thinking exactly the same thing when I heard he'd missed a penalty. Needs to vary it a bit more; always find he hits them low for placement rather than power too; if he'd elevated it a bit more it probably would've gone in, as McGovern was so low down. Nit picking though. Fuck the Accies.
  6. Still remember the headline: 'Muddy Marvel' on the back of the Motherwell Times; picture of Willie with his arms aloft. Tremendous day.
  7. I remember a game against Dunfermline; we were 2-1 down and absolutely pumping them but couldn't get the equaliser. Up steps Corrigan for a header in the last minute/injury time. I remember Craigan had a go from 25+ yards and skimmed the crossbar... the wtf? moment still lives on with me.
  8. Lee Hollis seen this morning playing in my amateur team's league against us... His team had 8/9 players and he let in 6. MOTM performance; would have been 10+ without him.
  9. I'm sure there's a gate at the East that stays open until HT or so.
  10. So basically... your 'rumour' has no foundation other than it's from someone who has no interest or idea about our club at all. Right. Close the thread, please.
  11. I've asked myself the same question. Lasley?
  12. A friend of mine was at Thistle earlier with his son (he's on their books in the U20s team) and says the pitch was horrendous underfoot. Said it 'looks good' from the stands/pitch side but once you're on it's not good at all.
  13. Not the type of player we're after; he's a creative midfielder and we want a hard tackler. We've got two attacking mids playing well just now. Wanting a Jennings type and another striker.
  14. I thought he only signed a 1 year deal with Gannon and Brown re-signed him, then he signed another year for McCall?
  15. Exactly this, and Capt Oats' point, too. 14 years old is too young, though. Needs to be 17/18/19. The system in the USA is set up totally differently; the infrastructure is there to support players relocating. Completely different mindset, too; players wanting to 'make it' are well versed in the understanding that they'll need to leave home at a certain age, possibly not to return for years. Rookies quite often end up being housed with a 'Veteren' of the team (in the NHL, certainly) for a few seasons so they're kept under wraps and don't lose the rag with money, behaviour issues etc. Lot of it depends on how it's structured but the fundamental difference is it's one league across the whole country in the US, with each 'National' level team having an affiliate they can send players to for development, or quite often players are drafted and sent straight back to college to play another season, after which they move on to the affiliate club. It can take 3/4/5 years for a prospect to fulfil their talent.
  16. McGhee doesn't pick the U20s side. Craigan does. Was speaking to someone who works at the club and knows JL really well. Said he's had a fair few injury niggles since recovering from his operation and they've held him back from being able to train properly etc. I wouldn't write him off quite so easily yet.
  17. I have a feeling it'll be lower end of the Championship/top of League 1. The lad's class.
  18. Grimshaw extended his loan, I'm sure? Edit: though a quick search doesn't see it confirmed anywhere on the official site, so an unknown! I know McGhee's spoken about extending it at the same time as he was chatting about extending Ripley's.
  19. I believe it was a league instruction to referees; any hand ball, regardless of deliberate or not was a yellow card. Any hand ball in the penalty box was a penalty too, I'm sure. That was a few seasons ago right enough, so I don't know if that's still the case.
  20. Got 18 months left on his deal, so I'd imagine so.
  21. I'd imagine we'll wait until the New Year to schedule this one, given the fixture congestion over the next 3 weeks.
  22. 100% this. In addition, I've been to 4 games this season; only 1 at Fir Park as I can't justify the £20 it costs me to get into the East Stand for the majority of games. I'm aware a season ticket offers a much better deal, but I wouldn't be able to attend a fair number of games due to personal reasons, so I'd still be spending the £20/match. Like Kmcaplin said, 'other' costs have skyrocketed in the last 5/10 years. I'm spending double what a decent season ticket would cost me for my golf membership, which I'd much rather have in the long run than the odd Saturday at Fir Park. I play football 3/4 times a week, two of those with my amateur team and those all add up to the £20 it'd cost me to get into Fir Park on a weekly basis; I'd much rather play and lose my beer gut than sit at FP to watch other people do what I enjoy doing with my mates 3 or 4 times a week.
