2018’19 Game 9: St Johnstone (H) Saturday 20th October 2018
sbcmfc replied to Welldaft Mk1's topic in Club Chat
He’s a left back? Might have too, Frear and ATS both appear to be made of glass and not sure either are the answer anyway. Frear isn’t a defender, and ATS is still an unknown and we’re at the end of October. Tait should be at right back, and think Cadden could play an advanced midfield role or right of a Midfield or have a spell on the bench. -
2018’19 Game 9: St Johnstone (H) Saturday 20th October 2018

I’ve not been to many games this season, so was watching with fresh eyes, rather than having the negative experiences of some previous performances. I thought we were a bit unlucky. We were well on top in the 1st half and should’ve taken one of our chances then or early in the 2nd half. StJohnstone strangled the game in the 2nd half and finished the stronger, but I felt If Rose’s header goes in, or Main buries the chance early in the 2nd rather than blazing over after a great 1st touch, we probably go on and win the game quite comfortably. I don’t have alarm bells ringing yet. Was good to see Dunne back, Turnbull and Campbell linked up well. Cadden is a concern, it’s about 12 months since he had a good game, yet he starts every week. Tait is one of our most consistent players and he’s shunted around to accommodate Cadden. -
Saw on Twitter that Dom Thomas is running a kids coaching camp with Paul Slane helping out.

I was surprised at the above stats of how few goals he scored. Was a great out ball and put the fear into other teams and although sometimes he’d be fairly anonymous, a team nullifying him often opened up the left wing for Jamie Murphy. Was never going to play into his late 30s as his main (would be a touch harsh to say only) attribute was his lightning pace. Frustrating at times, but a player that left with the best wishes of most fans.

Fine margins.

Moult scored to put Preston 3-2 in front on 86 minutes, from 2-0 down, drew 3-3. Man Utd took the train to Watford. As someone said, Preston to Birmingham by train makes sense.

Anybody got our stats on shootouts? Can remember a few we’ve lost v Hamilton, Alloa, Stranraer Only one I can remember winning off the top of my head was at Cappielow in 1991.

Like Uruguay, Iceland, Argentina....

I think that was what Gordon Strachan was alluding to with his maligned “genetic disadvantage” comments. Although it’s wrong to suggest we need players of African or Caribbean descent as they are bigger, faster, stronger, it’s not as simple as that.

I think the old firm get the benefit of the doubt and more decisions in their favour, but it’s not that the referees are corrupt or biased. They are weak. It’s easy to give a decision against Motherwell, there are no real consequences, if you give a big decision (even if it’s correct) against one of those pair... Theres also the influence the crowd have. It happens the world over with the big teams.

Always liked that guy.

Just an observation on the current mentality of the Rangers fans. Reading the responses to the Hartley incident and match build up there’s a glaring paranoia from them. They seem to think Referees, the media, SFA, politicians as well as everyone else in Scotland are out to get them. I don’t understand why? They have had 2 red cards this season, 1 was (unbelievably) rescinded, the other one was a textbook red card. The media are absolute lap dogs to them and Celtic. I presume they long for the days of Jim White and chick Young all but giving David Murray a gammy while he told them his latest plan for world domination and referees doing funny handshakes.

You’re right, but would still be good. It was still on the back pages over a week later.
-
That’s exactly how I took it, although that’s not what came out. It would’ve been ballsy, but would’ve been great if he’d clarified what he meant rather than release a half arsed apology.
-
He’s not been misquoted, but probably take slightly out of context. The greeting from Rangers and the media went on for over a week after the semi.

I can see how Sammon and Main together might not work and might encourage hoofball, but he’s an option and he’s proven he can do well at our level and higher in the past, albeit without ever being a prolific goalscorer. I liked the Main and Johnson pairing on Saturday, but I’m sure Sammon can contribute whether that be as an option from the bench or as one of a front 2, possibly with Johnson rather than Main?
-
He still had a good game. Campbell had a good game too and he didn’t play 90 minutes.
-
I thought Hartley was good on Saturday, in fact I voted him MoTM on here.

For that reason, I’d have been quite happy with Celtic at Fir park. A midweek tie under the lights at fir park... Rather that than play them at Hampden again! Don’t think they’d fancy a trip to for park or tynecastle, we’re due something from them at our place!

Aye, we got in a couple of minutes to 3, just after KO, took about 15-20 minutes, Queue was still same length as when we had joined at that point. Wonder if they had more than 4 turnstiles open for the 200 home fans?
-
Why did the game kick off at 5 to 3?
-
Free kids under 12 to be fair, so not a bad deal at all!
-
I’m presuming Tanner is playing off the striker in a “number 10” that midfield would get over run every week as almost everyone either plays 4-5-1 or 3-5-2. Would also leave us very narrow.

I had guessed it might be something like this delaying an announcement. MFC are pretty good at trying to look out for the fans like this. Reckon we’d take a good support through, more so if they go for the £15 area with price. I’ll probably not go to a league game there at £24 (it’s £16 concession, £10 under 16) but considering going on Saturday.
-
You’d like to think so, and im sure that will be what MFC suggest, but the fact it’s not been advertised yet has me wondering...
