    Relegation

We had 36 points and hibs had 35 in the 2 years of the play-offs. We are already on 32, can't see us not picking up another 8-10 points from our 10 remaining games. Which should see us safe?? 7+ points before the split might see us pip St Johnstone or Dundee??

    Away Crowds

Does seem a stretch! Kids are known for hating noise, colour, flags... My 2 1/2 year old moved to sit closer to the end section at his last game. He genuinely was more scared at an earlier game by one of the "porridge dribblers" in the season ticket sections hurling abuse (probably at one of our own players) and spraying him with pie.
  4. I thought you were talking about standing on the concourse behind the seated area? Standing in the back row or in an area where a blind eye is turned to standing and you're not stopping anybody seeing the game is fine. Standing on the concourse out with the seating area is a bit different.

    Away Crowds

I always think the £23 we charge away fans is pretty steep, don't think they benefit from any of the free kid deals you get with your season book either. Putting on a better offering, be it free kids, or cheaper adult or a bit of both could make Motherwell an away day people mark on the calendar. There's folk that go to games and will go to away games, but maybe just need a bit of persuading... Not sure if the ICT example is a fair comparison, as it was the cup, but on face value, folk are willing to travel from Inverness at £15, but not at £23...
  6. I'll defend him as a general manager, and as a person, but not as a footballer!
  7. You guys on the podcast have covered it pretty well. In the grand scheme of Scottish politics, it's not even on the radar. As long as there's smoke bombs, flares, folk running on the park and general misbehaviour amongst fans, they are very easy dismissed as a bunch of neds that think they can do what they want because there's 20 of them with matching jackets and expensive scarves. I'm not saying that's what I think (don't want labelled a "porridge dribbler"), and I know that the reaction to and reporting of minor incidents in ground is sensationalist and over the top, but there's no smoke without fire (poor pun!) and as long as the Bois, the green brigade or whoever give the police reason to wade in, no matter how little, it's a losing battle.
  8. If he was a faceless man in a suit that used to be a bank manager, we'd barely know his name. I think it's a bit of "ah kent his faither" from the folk who constantly point the finger at him. He's a good guy, well respected by all accounts and has worked very hard to get where he is.
  9. I don't remember much of note that didn't make the highlights. Faddy had a couple of nice turns and runs, but that was about it. United werent great, but for a change we got the breaks at the right time. Last 20 minutes their heads were down and they were awful.

  11. My only concern with the same line up would be the wider park at Mcdiarmid might mean we're a bit more exposed down the wings. Having said that I'm not sure how St Johnstone set up? Last nights system might fall on its backside if you don't get the 1st goal? Pearson will be back in the squad, and wouldn't be gutted if he cave in for Lasley or Gomis, who I thought were 2 of the weaker players last night.

Jim Spence can fill Sparra in on the 1st half.
  13. He made a mistake early on that let a United player in. He got a shout to play it to Ripley, but tried to play it up the line and gave it away. Fortunately the boy chose to shoot from an acute angle instead of pulling it back. Otherwise he was pretty solid and played a few decent passes.
  14. 1st half was pretty brutal, our goal with the last action of the half was the first attempt on target I remember. Sort of break we needed. Rode our luck early in the second half and were under a bit of pressure, but other than one scramble where Ripley made a mess of taking a cross and United hit the bar, we limited them to few real chances. When the 2nd went in they were beat. 3rd was scandalous from a united point of view McDonald had all day to tee it up and pick his spot. Formation worked well, was good to find a way of accommodating 2 up front without playing an unbalanced or powderpuff midfield, and worked well defensively too, covered for McManus charging out attacking balls (although he won them all anyway!).
  15. He was excellent, and looked pumped up for it. Won everything in the air, and got an important goal. Is a frustration that performances like last night and the play-offs make you question his commitment in other games. Black mark against McDonald would be his decision making, which was awful most of the time.
  16. It's raining, but the lighter than any rain I had on the way.
  17. Barraclough would've had 2 replacements lined up, signed them, then got the original player too.... I'm quite happy with the business we did. Gomis looks to be a good addition in a position we were short (see Hearts 6-0). We shifted a lot of guys who were out the plans. I'm not sure where else there's an obvious weakness in the team. (There obviously is weaknesses, but just bringing in bodies wouldn't address these.)
  18. Any relation to Steve Jennings? Looks like he's shown some promise....
  19. Didn't mean to single out Mcdonald, as you say with the right service and in the right position he's an asset. Just his experience and extra bit of quality brings something to the team. But to accommodate 2 forwards, we need to play an unbalanced midfield. Unless we go. Cadden Lasley Gomis Pearson Maybe?
  20. The problem is that we don't seem to be able to find the correct system to get the best out our players. Marvin and Ainsworth can both be match winners, but it's difficult to accommodate both due to their poor work rate and attacking instinct. If you play one of them, we're unbalanced playing with 1 winger leaving a full back (normally Josh law) exposed. We could accommodate them both by playing 5 in midfield, but that means losing the quality and experience of Mcdonald or leaving out our top scorer in Moult. We also seem to end up with the forward looking isolated whenever we go 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1. To get the best out the team, McGhee might need to make some difficult decisions, possibly dropping Lasley or Mcdonald to find a way of getting the most effective 11 players on the park.
  21. Not to be negative about a player we haven't even signed yet... I was really impressed with him in a recent cup game, whoever they played the day we played cove Rangers. Looked exciting. But Could imagine him to be another frustrating type like Marvin Johnson or Lionel Ainsworth. Sugar or shite....
  22. It had been sorted out long before the horses arrived as I remember it.
  23. If they budget for a cup run and top 6 finish, you'd like to think so. Not sure where they budget for a pitch invasion for avoiding relegation mind you...
