  1. Having watched the highlights, I can't disagree that the team was all wrong! As most of you have said, we were weakened in one area by the loss of Lasley and Grimshaw, but weakened the full team by shuffling the defence to accommodate joe chalmers, who has yet to convince me he wants to be at fir park. Putting Law in midfield (it's Tom Hateley all over again! A competent right back, out his depth in midfield!), Hammell looked like a fish out of water at right back, but I also thought McManus looked lost too! The experienced players let us down a bit I thought (based on the Alba highlights), Hammell can be cut some slack, as he was clearly uncomfortable at RB, but McManus was charging about like a headless chicken in the 1st half and Pearson looked a bit lethargic and didn't get tackles in. All in, I was concerned about the lack of bite in midfield and that was always going to be our downfall. 6-0 wasn't ideal, but as Mark McGhee once said, much to the annoyance of the Aberdeen fans "it's only 3 points". (We need a replacement for Grimshaw ASAP though!)

Exactly! This isn't a bad break, they didn't even make the final. Had he lost the final to a dodgy decision or on a penalty shoot out, he'd maybe have a point. If he was that good he'd have won automatic promotion! (Even if he did, look at Billy Davies, took Derby from relegation favourites to the Premiership by winning the play offs, got no money to compete in the Premier and got sacked by Christmas!)
  3. See your point. The complaint has been about the behaviour of another fan, more than where he was standing. Probably reinforces the fact that when fans do get a bit of Lee way, some idiot will spoil it. (This is why, while I think we should be able to buy a beer at the football on one hand, but I know some idiots will spoil it if it were allowed on the other!)
  4. The original point was by a guy who said he'd worn the shirt about 12 times (I think?), I suppose a player might not wear a shirt that many? Even if they had 1 home and 1 away for the season, that's maybe 30 times and 10 times they'd wear each, if they play every week, and they only wear it for 2 hours, not all day, although I'd imagine the washing is the largest factor in the wear and tear... I'd guess in reality they might get 2 or 3 home shirts, that might only see 20-30 hours wear and 10-15 washes?
  5. I don't think there's any pant wetting really, just some folk can kind of see why the club/stewards don't want folk standing there. It doesn't bother me, I can just understand the clampdown on it.
  6. I'm not one for enforcing stupid rules or rules for rules sake. But, you're spot on. Nothing wrong with standing in the back few rows or the last couple of sections of the east stand. What the fuck do folk want? I quite fancy sitting on the wall at the front of the east stand or bringing a stool and sitting it in the stairwell...
  7. I had never really noticed it other than in the last few minutes, with folk trying to get a sharp get away. That was until the stjohnstone game, I went for a pie, and noticed it was really busy along the barrier at the back. Seems like they've maybe turned a blind eye to a handful of folk for a while, but it had got out of hand.
  8. I noticed the yellow lines on Saturday, couldn't understand what they were for, makes sense now. Had noticed the whole barrier along the back was full at the stjohnstone game (and this wasn't with 5 minutes to go). So they probably did have to do something.
  9. He did say the money wasn't the reason he went to Rangers. So maybe he will rip up his contract to come to Motherwell for 1/3rd of the money.
  10. Can't see him walking from Rangers with 6 months on his contract. He'd be halfing his wages (at least!).
  11. I think in Spain all hand balls are (at least) a booking. Not sure how they can have different rules, but sure that's the case.
  12. As much as I'd treat Cove with respect, anyone who is carrying a knock or needs a breather could be rested and we should still have more than enough to win reasonably comfortably! If go... Ripley Law Hall McManus Chalmers Thomas Grimshaw Lasley Johnson McFadden Fletcher Or something of the likes....
  13. Yeah, it's a rule that's wording and application are entirely different. Deliberate is probably the wrong word. "Taking action, voluntarily or involuntarily which increases the chance of the ball striking your arm" is probably a closer description of the actual application. You probably only see a couple a season that are completely deliberate. Like faddys save on the line for Scotland v Norway at hampden.
  14. Can't believe some people still think this is serious
  15. I know. Wasn't disagreeing with your point, just stretching it to disprove steel boys theory.
  16. More importantly, if he didn't do it on purpose, it's not a penalty!
  17. Agree with above. Can't help make comparisons with Chris Humphrey. Ainsworth has a good bit more to his game, goals for starters and a bit more game awareness, but despite being better on most levels, I felt even in his worst games Humphrey offered something (even if it was just an out ball), whereas when Ainsworth doesn't show up, which is fairly regularly, he's a complete waste of a jersey. I like him, but if we got a decent fee for him (£150-200k?), all the best to him.
  18. Just shy of 21million to 1, presuming you're not fussed on what order they came out. (That's just for any 3 pre-decided tickets, if you allow for any 3 from a block of 10 with 2 being sequential, that's much less, about 250,000/1)
  19. But that's the odds of any named combination. I can understand why it seems less likely, but statistically it isn't.
  20. Before the 1st hand the odds are astronomical. Although it's the same astronomical odds on any 4 cards over 2 hands. (48,260/1) Much as the odds on any 3 tickets coming out whether it be 1,2 and 3 or 564 312 and 988.
  21. I've seen him 3 times and he is one of the best, if not the best I've seen. Probably helps there's a Motherwell connection to a lot of the anecdotes. His nervous energy is weird! He sits looking like a nervous wreck, then gets on his feet and explodes for half an hour.
  22. Erwin had a purple patch towards the end of last season, but upto then he'd flattered to deceive. We're more than adequately covered in that position, certainly in terms of numbers
  23. I think expecting folk to attend out of blind loyalty is part of the problem. No matter how bad the product is, how much it costs, how badly we get treated some of us will still go, but it's not a very good plan. I know john Boyle tried everything to get folk through the door, and as has been said, you literally can't give tickets away, but I always felt it was a scatter gun approach. A consistent good price, for home and away fans. It's £23 for a visiting fan, and there's no free kids with that. Make fir park the away game people mark in their diary, it's such a neglected market by all club, and it should be so simple, these are folk that already go to the football...
  24. I think there's social reasons too. There are lots of things you can do on a Saturday afternoon, many of which do not put as much of a strain on your watch or wallet, and most of which can be done in more pleasant, comfortable surroundings. There's also a change in family dynamics too. Men (who make up the bulk of the traditional support) are expected to be far more involved in the family. Working all week, then fucking off for most of Saturday isn't as easy to pull off as it was for my father, and certainly my grandfather. If my wife gets a Saturday off, she's looking to do something as a family, and it's not sit freezing our arses off at fir park. There's also the changes to people's working week. For a lot of these reasons midweek games actually suit me better these days.
  25. That's a pretty worrying stat! I'd have expected most teams to have maybe 2 players in that bracket. Do they still have the rule about having under age players on the bench? I'm sure at one point, you had to have 2? Players under 23? On the bench, but even if you had 2+ In the starting 11, you still had to have 2 on the bench.
