  1. Roy Essandoh? Appeared about 10 years later with a famous FA cup goal for Wycombe(?) Kenny Wright? Remember he was the next big thing for a while after a couple of promising appearances from the bench.
  2. Also comparing Oranges and apples. Like faddy or Tommy Coyne with John Sutton. Sutton was a penalty box striker, and despite not looking the most athletic did a great job for us sticking the ball in the net. His assists stats are doubtful to be in double figures, but that wasn't his job.
  3. To be fair to the 'Well Bois. This law means that you are allowed to be dealt with more harshly because you are a football fan. I'm not a fan of the Green Brigade and think amongst many other dislikeable qualities they have a real victim mentality. I also think the Bois or folk who attach themselves to the group do themselves no favours and plenty of them quite enjoy and thrive on the cat and mouse with police and stewards at games. However, laws that treat football fans differently from music fans, rugby fans.... don't seem right in my eyes, and is all politically motivated. I generally manage to behave at the football, but I know I'm glad this law wasn't around a few years earlier! (I also think it entails the wider problem of how we are treated at the football! Particularly away from home! We are paying customers and are herded like cattle, treated with contempt and over charged for the privilege, that's a wider debate, but perhaps one that would get more empathy from the wider support)
  4. Yeah, was a tongue in cheek reference to Hugh Keevins match report that said we skelped the linesman with a pie.
  5. If he can even make Chalmers look like he wants to be at fir park it would be an improvement.
  6. I agree! He was a steady enough right back, although he took one or 2 roastings, where for his own benefit he should've been subbed after 10 minutes (templeton at tynecastle, think it was Xmas eve 2011, honking! ) Also if I got to hit every set piece for 3 years, id fancy I'd score a couple too!
  7. Hugh Kevin's wrote that he saw us hit the linesman with a pie! Fuck knows how we got the name the Bovril two? The papers will sensationalise anything that occurs at the time, but the sports media have no interest in the aftermath and it's not news worthy enough for a real journalist.
  8. We realised after about 10 minutes we'd rather not go than sit in the main stand.
  9. I think part of the problem is that "the bill" was sold as a way of stopping sectarianism, Celtic thought it would only apply to Rangers, Motherwell thought it would only apply to Rangers and Celtic, in reality it's a way of trumping up minor offences already covered by breach of the peace and dragging kids (it's mostly young males) through the courts, wasting everyone's time and money.
  10. There isn't an option for "banned from fir park for 5 years for fuck all" The stewards and police I dealt with were fairly apologetic about the situation to be fair to them. The clubs head of security was a lieing bastard though, because the video evidence he claimed to have would have shown clearly what a farce the whole situation was.
  11. He appears to be trying to turn Louis Laing into Frank Lampard.
  12. Am I right in saying this is our 1st TV game this season? Or last team to play Celtic.
  13. Noticed the police weren't as keen to wade in at hampden tonight when it wasn't teenage kids....
  14. IF Simo is the man for the job, I think it would be worth waiting a couple of weeks. I'd also think more of Simo if he stayed and won the league with them, than ditched his team at this stage. If the shoe was on the other foot, we'd all expect him to stay.
  15. Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola haven't achieved what they did as managers on a shoe string budget either, so the fact Valakari has achieved quite a lot in a short period is surely the most important factor in that regard? What level finish football is at, how his team play etc are unknowns for me, but I don't think discounting him as he's had a decent budget is fair. I'm not against Mark McGhee, but the manner in which he downed tools and left did leave a bad taste! He'd need to win a lot of people over.

Did he do the graphics? Not that they weren't good, but I was just listening. The graphics weren't particularly important (to me anyway..).
  17. Agree with that, particularly the last bit. The last time I felt unsafe in a ground was a game at Easter road around 1989. The fact the 10 year old ball boys behind the goal on Tuesday were completely unphased by what was going on says a lot about how minor it was.
  18. I'm with the Bois on this, but as is being highlighted in this thread, there is a point blank refusal to accept any responsibility for the treatment they receive. Yes, a lot of the stewarding and policing is way over the top. Yes, the way we as away fans are treated (more generally) is a disgrace and we shouldn't just accept it. Yes, they really add to the match day experience for me and many others. BUT sometimes the Bois (or folk who attach themselves to the main group, I'm not sure on the politics?) need to acknowledge they are not entirely blameless and do little to help themselves. Flares, smoke pellets, running on the pitch etc. will attract unwanted* attention. *i say unwanted, but let's not kid on some of the guys don't love it!

I meant in terms of winning over the media, we weren't supposed to win that. The Scottish football media don't appear to like left field appointments that aren't on their golf circuit. See George Burley or Berti Vogts as examples, don't get me wrong, both these descended into a farce that became untenable, but both were undermined from day 1. (I defended Vogts for a long time on the back of his competitive record.)
  20. In many (if not most) of these incidents, a portion of the blame has to lie with the fans (or fan) who brought themselves to the attention of the police/stewards in the first place. However what went on at Cappielow, or certainly the response to it was unbelievably disproportionate! I posted this on another site, an interesting comparison I thought....

I think there is undoubtedly a cliquey element to Scottish football and the media that cover it. Outsiders are rarely made welcome and often undermined from day 1. Ronnie Deila looked like he was in for a rough ride, but seems to have turned it around a bit. Barraclough hasn't done well enough to turn that around, in fact the one good thing he did in hammering Rangers may have been more of a hindrance than a help in that regard.

Johnston wasn't very popular at Killie as far as I recall, although I think a lot of the problems were blamed on his namesake in the boardroom. His record at Dunfermline is impressive as was the case at queen of the South, but in both instances he was managing a full time club in a part time league.

Posted much the same thing at the same time capt oats. The with/without Pearson stats haven't really improved since then, although we have now won 1 game without him, admittedly against a team in even worse shape than ours!
