Managers stock can rise and fall so quickly. Mark McGhee was touted for Celtic, Hearts and Scotland jobs while with us, look at him now. McCall was attracting all sorts of interest at various points too. I like Robinson, and bear in mind he’s relatively young, he’s still learning on the job. There’s no doubt he’s a better manager now than when he took over at fir park, or when it didn’t work for him at Oldham. He sounds ambitious, but I agree, I don’t think he’d dive straight in to the wrong job at a basket case club. Which could describe basically any club from mid championship down.

That was his 1st for Celtic, but the bar for getting sent off is a good bit higher if you’re wearing a Celtic shirt. I suppose a lot of good players have a nasty streak.
-
You don’t tend to bring on a centre half unless someone is injured, so probably reasonably unlikely he’ll feature. Will let Clarke see him up close along side Devlin and Findlay though.
-
Yeah, mentioned that one further back. He wasn’t even our 1st choice right back at the time. That was a bit of a freak as he was with u-21s and they had late call offs for a friendly at Pittodrie IIRC. No massive issue with Shankland call up, just find the lack of consistency bemusing. Remember as far back as the days of Paul Lambert (as well as Martin and Mckinnon) being overlooked, so it’s not a Steve Clarke thing. Just think you’d really need to be pulling up trees at Motherwell to get noticed. Declan Gallagher isn’t Colin Hendry or Alex Mcleish, but I think he’s on a par with Devlin, Souttar, Halkett probably even McKenna.
-
Yet has picked guys like Brophy... Shankland is a surprise, he’s playing in a league that has part time teams. Big step up. Has there ever been a surprise Motherwell inclusion in a Scotland squad?
-
I don’t think he’s far behind (if at all?) Souttar, McKenna or Halkett. Charlie Mulgrew is a utility player. Scotland aren’t blessed with options at centre half. I don’t think he’ll be picked though. With the exception of Steven Saunders cap, Scotland managers have only really looked to fir park when they’ve had to, don’t ever remember a manager taking a gamble on a player from us.

I have wet dreams about the Hylton Seedorf hybrid.
-
Carroll’s red card at the weekend likely means the return of Tait at LB. Id like to see him get a run at RB, but it would be at the expense of Grimshaw who has been playing reasonably well there.
-
I would agree with that. We do seem to have a lot of midfielders that we don’t really need.
-
A lot of Nike teams seem to be going for retro nineties kits, spurs and PSG were two I saw tonight. Only ‘well kit of that era I could see being resurrected is the flouro yellow away....
-
So Levein is head hunting his replacement while also trying to cling onto the job? Sounds believable.... And now for the weather, after our Indian summer, we’re due the beast from the east 2 and next summer we could have a 2 month heatwave...
-
Yeah, it’s been pointed out plenty times before, but of the many players who have left Motherwell for bigger and better things, how many have gone on to bigger and better things? (Especially those that have left under a cloud..) Jake Hastie looks more Stephen Pearson than Paul Slane at the moment.
-
Good luck to the boy. I thought he might end up at Alloa or Dumbarton, but happy to be proved wrong. On a side note, Sunderland draw 1-1 ridiculously often. Cost them promotion last year.
-
Great result and performance. Only black mark would be not taking our chances. Was the same against Hibs. We could’ve been 3-0 up at halftime in both games had we finished better, and feel this inability to punish teams will cost us points against harder working sides. Compare to Celtic who were utterly ruthless against us at fir park.
-
Probably a bit harsh. I’d say he made a bigger impact in less games than Ryan Kent... But also this.
-
Yes, that was the subtext to my point. I’m not convinced he’s any better than guys we’ve let go and have slipped down the leagues. I think Motherwell and Jake Hastie got the best deal they were ever going to get.
-
They are well intentioned, but they’ve made a pigs ear of it. I think the intention was to remove the possibility of gaining a big advantage from an accidental handball. To be honest, the way the rule was being applied before was ok. Perhaps changing the wording to replace “deliberate” with something like “avoidable” was all that was needed.
-
Maybe Tanner does need a fresh start. Not been the best time he’s had at fir park.
-
Hylton needs to learn to be a bit more direct. Seedorf needs to bulk up a bit although he grew into the game on Saturday. A hybrid of the pair would be some player.
-
I thought Cole looked a handful when he came on at the weekend. Long got in some great positions and could see him scoring a few when he builds a bit more confidence. James Scott been impressive too. The resurgence of Hartley has negated the need to add a centre half.
-
I’ve got a small amount of sympathy for Hastie. The contract Rangers will have given him will have been a once in a lifetime opportunity. He would’ve been crazy not to take it!
-
It’s the inconsistency that’s frustrating. I’ll stick my neck out and say there is no way the SFA will open the can of worms of citing Ryan Jack. I thought Carroll was wrong. Wasn’t bad enough to warrant upgrading a yellow to red in my opinion. We played Celtic without Carroll. Also guys like Donnelly, Hartley, Gallagher and Campbell will miss games later in the season for picking up 5 yellow cards, none of which will be as bad as Callum McGregor’s challenge on Sunday, let alone the Ryan jack one. The old firm have enough advantage over the rest as it is.

Depends if a scout watched one of the handful of games he tried a leg...

Ticket prices for Motherwell fans at Hamilton Accies
sbcmfc replied to Toxteth O'Grady's topic in Club Chat
Agree. Although at least we are fair on the family pricing. Although that throws up weird anomaly’s like it being cheaper to take my kids to St Johnstone than leave them at home. -
While I agree, there have been occasional outbreaks of football on the Rugby park surface. I think part of the problem at NDP is that Hamilton have a great ability to drag teams down to their level, particularly on that surface. Whilst I love seeing a healthy Motherwell travelling support as I’m sure do the team. I hope the Motherwell fans vote with their feet and there’s a noticeable drop in the attendance as a result of trying to squeeze a few extra quid out of us. At least it will avoid the farcical queues to get in and folk spending the first 20 minutes being ushered into a full stand before the gazebo opens.
