Without having a go at anyone directly, surely with the amount of different people commenting on flaws in their tops the club shop are going to be asking questions of Canterbury over this? I thought the marketing campaign was a good idea and I believed the hype. However, living in Aberdeen, I can hardly pop down to get one. Thankfully, I waited to read comments on here. I can't afford to gamble £40+ on whether I get one of the tops that catches/print peels off or not. While I'm sure no one will really care that they missed out on my money, surely there is a fear that many, many more supporters will be reluctant to part with their cash when the next top comes out?

Considering how threadbare our squad is, I'm not too concerned that the deal is only for 12 months. This season will be very unsettled. The stability won't come from throwing 5-year contracts at players who have never played in the SPL before. It will come from Gannon being given enough time and building a team over the next 3 or 4 seasons. If he has to test out a few trialists, loan players and 1-year contracts this year until he knows exactly what he needs to succeed in the SPL, then so be it. As long as he's not still doing it after 2 years in the job, a la McGhee...

I wasn't laughing at cashing in on players with one year left on their contract. Not at all. I was laughing at your suggestions that the two players concerned can be so easily replaced. Of course I notice that we are a selling club. We have very little capital. Hence my original point that who are we going to be able to buy that will come straight into the first team and make as much of an impact as Quinn and Clarkson have to our first team. I was one of those who was glad we sold Porter in January because it was clear he would be leaving and for a club like us, the money was more important. However, I'm not as naive to believe that simply selling any player close to the end of his contract is always best for the club. You're suggesting we can't afford to lose £500-800k. Fair enough. I'm suggesting we can't afford to lose David Clarkson. Rate him or not, Clarkson has been an integral part of our team under McGhee. In my opinion, it's worth trying to keep him for another season, in the hope that we can make him sign a new contract. A new manager MIGHT be able to convince him to stay and build a team around him. I know it's unlikely, but in my opinion, in this case, I believe it's worth the gamble. If we just sell every time someone waves a chequebook at us this summer, what kind of a team are we going to be able to put out next season? The real issue here is why we're not tying down our most important players to contract extensions much quicker...

We could use the money to buy...who?!? Who are Motherwell going to get (or more importantly, afford) that's better than a striker who is frequently called up for international duty?
-
If ESPN won the rights, would they be pay-per-view, subscription or free-to-air (well, free once you've paid your Sky subscription)? I'll be happy if we just go back to Sky. It'll be funny watching Charlie Nicholas pretend to know which two teams are actually playing...

Surely success is the only way to measure your ambition? Are they not inextricably linked? My ambition is to be really good at my job. If I achieve my ambition, I'll be a success at my job.
-
Fair enough, but McGhee could "lift his skirt" up as much as he likes, he'll only be linked with clubs if he is a success. Don't get me wrong, I'd love McGhee to come out and confirm that he'll stay at Motherwell next season, no matter who offers him a job. However, that would be a blatant lie. If a bigger club comes in for him, he'll go. But he's only linked with jobs because he is viewed as being a success. Hari Kampman could've been in the press every day saying how much he'd love to manage Celtic, Aberdeen, Real Madrid, etc. He would never have been linked with those jobs, no matter how much he "lifted his skirt", because he was a failure. No?

I beg to differ...

Feel free to explain why my post was a "poor" one. As for what you say about ambition, ambition is wanting to win things. As you say yourself, it's much easier to win something with a big club than a small one. If Mark McGhee wants to win the SPL, for example, is trying to win it with Motherwell instead of Celtic, say, more 'ambitious'? Or just plain unrealistic? Moving to a bigger club, be that player or manager, allows you the chance to be more successful. What else is that other than ambitious?

The hypocrisy of some our 'support' beggars belief! We slaughter Celtic fans for turning their noses up at Strachan's results whilst manager - simply because they don't like him, because he's not a 'Celtic man'. Yet people on here are saying they don't care if McGhee goes because he doesn't see Motherwell FC as anything more than a stepping stone? Or that, yes it's great we got third last year, but he's always in the media talking about himself so he should go? Who in their right mind, seriously, is going to "live and breathe" Motherwell FC as a manager? If they do, I'd want them sacked for a complete lack of ambition! Why the hell would he show 'loyalty' to a club who a) he had no affinity to while growing up, or b) have a significant number of the support who make it blatantly clear that they don't like him? He must stand on the touchline and scratch his head at some of the criticism he gets after guiding Motherwell, a club who can barely get enough supporters to fill a stand and were on the brink of extinction not that long ago, to third in the league last year. Honestly, he could spend Monday to Friday in a Celtic top singing IRA songs and spend his Sundays visiting Maddie McCann in his basement, as long as he had my team challenging for top six every season. But that's just my opinion.

Well there's not a chance in hell that Sheridan will be in our team next season...

I still think it's a disgrace that there isn't a clear scoring system for this that the clubs in question can be aware of. I know people have pointed out that teams would refuse to tackle to avoid bookings, but if yellow and red cards are only a small part of deciding the final fair play score, I can't see that being a realistic possibility.

I find it absolutely incredible (though sadly, not surprising) that the SFA can't make it clear to clubs what the situation is. Fair enough if they don't want to make it public, but why keep it secret from the participants themselves?

Couldn't have put it better myself...

Downloaded sopcast, tvants and someother pish and still can't get the game.

I didn't get carried away when we were on our miserable run before Christmas, so I'm not going to get carried away now. The next four games are extremely tough and I'll be satisfied if we are still in the top six after they've been played... One thing's for sure, after these next four league games are played, we'll have a much clearer picture of how our season is going to finish.
-
Don't think it's anything to do with wanting it more. It's more to do with Scottish football is embarrassingly dire. Two pish teams from a league a twelve pish teams. Hardly any saves from either 'keeper. Nothing to get the crowd excited. And that's on a pitch that was "perfect" for playing football on.

All came from a slack ball from Clarkson when our whole midfield had bust a gut to get into their box...
-
Then they would be completely wrong. Mon the semicolons!

After the over-reaction of us getting 3rd/4th place last week, brace yourselves for the over-reaction of us being "shite" after this draw...
-
Sorry, but it's my job to correct those sort of mistakes. Can't help myself. As for the language barrier, there's only a certain amount of phrases and vocabulary that will be required, I'd have thought. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I bet they even know the difference between there and their too!

Make that 3-1 now. Oh well, St Mirren it is then...
