Aye. They had some hardy boys in their teams back then! Just ask Maradona!

At no point did I try to claim any high ground. All I did was ask a question. Then had some debate / banter about who said what. There was no intention to offend anyone or undermine the forum.

2019/2020 Game 2: Celtic (H) August 10th 12pm Kick off
joewarkfanclub replied to David's topic in Club Chat
We have pace all through the team and most importantly at the back. Lets use that to press high up the park and not let them play their usual game. Sitting back and giving their players lots of time on the ball is a recipe for disaster. -
PS lets not get into a tit for tat. I do enjoy your positivity. Its very refreshing and most welcome on here.

Theres nothing wrong with speculation. But speculate you did....
-
Id bite your hand off to get Louis on loan for the season but I cant see us being able to afford anywhere near what Preston would want.
-
The one thing I would say about Long is that he looks like he has lots of pace. That can take you a long way in our league. He may well turn out to be pish, but its way too early to have decided that already.
-
Aye, but the one Marv said was Benteke scored the bicycle kick and turned out to be Mazinga.
-
I thought the trialist had already been disclosed as Mazinga?
-
I thought Carroll and Gallagher were both decent but Gillespies saves ensured the clean sheet and secured a point.
-
Thought we started well enough yesterday but by 20 minutes in Livvy had worked us out and grew into the game. By half time their midfield were bossing it and we had Gillespie to thank for going in level. Thought the changes we made did improve things a little but the performance was still disjointed and we continued to struggle to break them down. For me we still had the best chance of the game when Tait came in onto his left foot but for some inexplicable reason chose to hit it with his right. That should have been buried and would have made it a very different game. Still lots of questions remaining regarding the quality of our squad. But just as we shouldnt have been getting over excited by our league cup performances, no one should be be getting over agitated by yesterday.

As a fan owned club tradition should be important in the decisions we make as a club going forward. #saveourhoop Experiment with 2nd or 3rd kits if you like (although white is best) Simples

What we can say is that.... Our League Cup campaign so far has been significantly more impressive than last year. Gallagher looks like an upgrade on any of the centre halves we had last year. Some of our other signings have shown early promise (Hylton, Carroll, Polworth) Others look like they still have a way to go fitness wise so the jury is still out (Seedorf, Illic, Cole, Long) Donnelly looks much improved but without DT its unclear what our best midfield is and whether it can be as effective. Sloth could be the answer to that but too early to tell. We still have questions up front. James Scott has shown promise but he will need back up and no one else has stepped forward so far. We have 2 of the best goalkeepers in the League. A lot to be positive about I would have thought. The next few weeks will let us know for sure.

No chance Sevco get a hard tie until the semi finals. They need the cash.....

The 'Magnificent' David Turnbull Discussion Thread
joewarkfanclub replied to sailor_h's topic in Club Chat
I think pretty much every Motherwell supporter on the planet would like to see him sign a new contract on improved terms. -
Thought we did what we had to do today without bringing any real intensity to the game. Got to be happy winning 4-0 without being forced out of 2nd gear. Felt some of our defending towards the end was unecessarily scrappy and better opposition would certainly pounce on our mostly self inflicted wounds. Hopefully when the real stuff starts next week we can iron out any wrinkles. No real stand out performances today which disappointed given the level of opposition and much improved playing surface. Had hoped one or 2 would stamp their authority on the match. Thought Polworth was decent first half not sure why he was subbed other than to give Sloth some gametime. Sloth looked composed on the ball 2nd half. Hopefully more to come from him. Semple shows some nice touches but seems a little lacking in confidence and his positional play still needs some work. He is young and hopefully will improve with gametime. Donnelly was our best player over 90 minutes and scored 2 good goals. However, there were a good few loose passes out there which he is going to need to cut out. I agree with the others that James Scott must start next week. He is proving himself as our best option up front at the moment. Long was pretty ineffective today and Cole is still an unknown quantity. Overall the group stages have been a worthwhile exercise for us. 4 wins, 13 goals, 0 conceded. Lots of gametime for the new players and no serious injuries that we know of. Some good football played and some cracking goals. Starting the season from a much stronger position than this time last year.
-
Not really any stand out performances for me. We won at a canter without really getting out of 2nd gear. Grimshaw was decent but went for Donnelly despite his 2 howling passes in the 2nd half. He was really the only one trying to get on the ball and dictate play. Took his first goal well and the 2nd one is a screamer.

Defo want to see Sloth at some point today to see what he has got and compare him v Donnelly and Maguire. The guy is a Danish international so you would think he has some quality. Long also looked like he had pace to burn when he came on at Dumbarton so would like to see him from the start with Scott getting last 30 mins to keep his eye in. So great to have options this season.
-
With Sloth and Tanner both featuring in the recent bounce game and with DT still to return, I dont see us signing any more midfielders anytime soon.
-
Gallagher strolled it, but to be fair he was never really under that much pressure. Alan Campbell put in his usual Alan Campbell performance, but in the absence of any real stand outs tonight I went for Maguire. Just back in the first team being asked to step into midfield. Thought he aquitted himself well and didnt look out of place.
-
Lots of patience required tonight. As soon as I saw the pitch I felt it was going to be harder than I had envisaged. Fair play to Dumbarton. They were very organised, defended well and the long grass stopped us from zipping the ball about and slowed our wide players down. It was exactly the kind of night that would have seen us come a cropper in the past but this was no Edinburgh City or Stranraer. We dominated the game, barely allowed them anywhere near our goal, let alone concede one and kept probing patiently looking for the opening. Yes we could have used the ball better and quicker at times and we might have done better with some of the chances we did create, however, it was a pretty comfortable victory which sets us up nicely for Ssturday where we should be much more effective on our well watered bowling green. PS. I thought Maguire had a very good game and did what he was asked to do. Didnt think he looked out of place at all.

That sounds a bit like you are tipping us for top 6 there YB!

I know taking cash from betting firms is generally frowned upon and sometimes for good reason but I dont think we can afford to be sniffy. This will undoubtedly be a good deal for the club with the benefit that we all get to buy 2 pretty cracking logo free kits! Also, lets give credit where its due. The Paddypower adds are generally pretty funny. I cant help feeling just a little bit proud at the fact we are doing something groundbreaking and just a little cool.
