Thats certainly my reading of it. Bit of a left field decision otherwise....

A fit and motivated Tony Watt is an asset to any team. No doubt about that.

Some better weather and a bit more football please! Happy to take the same scoreline as this week!

Wasnt at the game yesterday, so cant comment on the performance, other than my mate that was there said both teams were shite in the first half and we were better in the second half after the changes. The game seems to have followed a similar pattern to many this season and always nice to get an injury time winner. It takes the pressure off again for next weekband gives us a chance to go above United into 4th! The fine margins in this league are ridiculous! Hoping that the team selections are all about managing injuries and protecting players and that once they clear up we will start to see some consistency in selection and improvement in performance. Still, a wins a win and despite our faults and weaknesses we remain top 6 and restore some of the gap to those below.

Absolutely this. Ive been broadly supportive of Kettlewell over the piece and continue to be so, for now. But recent weeks have seen a return to some really strange starting selections and some even stranger in game substitutions / tactics. As a result our form and entertainment value have tanked. We were comfortably top 6. But we have let that advantage go and it wouldnt take too many more poor results to have us right in the relegation mix. What happens in the next few weeks could be as season defining as our relatively good start.

With all the injuries just now, Im not sure that really is even a debate. Not sure many of us would have picked Tavares to start on Wednesday night though.....

But Id settle for Ox Casey Gordon Seddon Kaleta Paton Miller Wilson Watt Stama Maswanhise

Wasnt at the game tonight and didnt see any of it, so I wont comment on the performance. What I would say is that the starting line up seemed very strange. Kaleta and Maswanhise have been 2 of our better performers of late so was surprised to see them dropped. I was however pleased to see Paton and Watt included. From reading the comments earlier it would appear we did pose more of an attacking threat which is welcome, but yet again we have capitulated at the back. We seem to be missing McGinn and SOD more than most would give them credit for and the manager seems unable to get the right mix at the back. Thats 3 defeats on the bounce now with St Mirren away up next. Hardly the most appetising of fixtures right now. Shaping up to be a pretty tough looking festive card. By the time we get to January SK will either have turned it around or will be under significant pressure. I hope its the former rather than the latter, but it feels a bit grim tonight.

Is anyone else other than Oxborough guaranteed to start?

Who knew? 😆😆😆

You really couldnt make that up!

The club have said they have looked at the situation and are satisfied that there isnt anything they are doing that is causing multiple injuries. What is it that you suggest should be done to ensure we arent writing this off? An independent review? Stop training with a ball? Stop contact training? Stop walk throughs? Stop playing games of football? The one thing that anyone can realistically throw at the manager regarding our injury record this season is signing players with an injury record and that amounts to 2 players. Nicholson and Callachan. One was already in the building and had contributed significantly towards the end of last season. Our injury record IS horrendous and IF all the injuries were the same or obtained under similar circumstances I might agree with the general point being made, but sometimes luck and timing is just that. Its clear to me that Kettlewell has just driven into the back of a lorry carrying a load of mirrors. Our injuries should stop in about 7 years. 😉😉😉

Id actually quite like it to be the Friday night game. It would increase the appeal for me.

Achilles is a bad one. Certainly wont play again this season, which is probably why the comms team changed tack on their messaging. As some have pointed out Im not sure how you can compare an achilles injury to any of the others. McGinn did his quad kicking a ball. SoD got injured during a game. As did Paton and Stama. Slattery was an ACL. Nicholson knee problem. Callachan - Hamstring Vale - Calf Quite a variation in the type of injuries and setting. Not sure how our injury record compares to other clubs, but most successful teams take part in high intensity training. It needs to be managed, but if we want to improve we need to be at it too. Fairly certain SK and the management team are as concerned as anyone about the number of injuries. If we were doing something wrong they would identify it and change it. They're not that stupid.
-
If he does that and we lose the game he is inviting significant pressure onto himself unecessarily I think most fans understand he is a little hamstrung with injuries just now and would accept a loss if they see attempts to fix things. But continuing to do the same thing over and over again expecting different results will severely test the patience of most. He was reportedly quite angry at the weekend though and the performance was bad enough that no one could complain if they were dropped tomorrow night. I dont expect wholesale changes. But I would expect 2 or 3 with a tweak or two to the system.

Anywhere away that we havent been before where you could have a good away day and still a decent chance of a win. Musselburgh, Broxburn, Brechin, Fraserburgh Or a winnable hometie against someone we play less often Airdrie, Dunfermline, Dumbarton, Clydebank. Normally I'd put Falkirk, Ayr United, Raith in that category, but our form probably isnt strong enough right now to wish for that, albeit it could be in January. Just anyone but another Premier League side to be honest. You get that anyway if you are lucky enoygh to get to the latter stages.

Thats a nice stat. Its amazing how some grounds are more profitable than others. I just always presumed our record there was shite as Ive mostly seen us lose there and the games have been turgid souless crap. I was there at the last league game however. It was still mostly turgid souless crap, but we did get an injury time winner!

Merit is fine if the team is getting results. When it was, no-one was suggesting Watt should be near the team. The problem we have right now is we have a mis-functioning midfield and a no.1 striker who cant get a sniff of the ball. My view, and I presume most others, is that Watt is the most equipped player we have to offer him support and try and connect the different areas of the team. Its worth a shot and the extra minutes will confirm or refute whether Watt has anything left to offer at this level.
-
If we get a few decent results between now and then we might take a big enough crowd to justify it. Although the view from the Main Stand is better......
-
That really is a shit draw..... Away tie against a team we have already played twice this season and will have played 4 times by the week after. It may be a winnable tie, but its hardly inspiring!
-
I understand what both of you are saying. But if you remove Wilson from the equation you need to play Halliday and/or Davor. There in lies my dilemma. Id not be too upset with Paton, Miller, Halliday and Maswanhise with Watt & Stama up top. But its still a lopsided arrangement with precious little protection for the central defence in transition. It also gives you a selection problem at centre half. Which combo do you trust enough with the ball at their feet whilst also being able to competently defend? I think its a big ask to get it right with 2 days training.
-
My point wasnt that we shouldnt change the system now. It was more, do we actually have enough fit midfielders of sufficient quality to justify going to 4 at the back, which ultimately will require an extra body in midfield or up top?
-
I think Kaleta can be that player, but we dont play in a way that allows him to be. He has the pace and delivery but we regularly ignore him standing in acres of space on the right to fire balls at Stama and Maswanhise who have little or no chance to get it under control before they are challenged. Once our better midfielders are fit Id like to see us go to a four, not sure that now is the time though given what we have at our disposal. We can get width though if we play to Kaleta's strengths and push Maswanhise out wide left. Then maybe Stama et all would get some delivery to feed off.

I certainly dont think he will do so on Wednesday night for the reasons The Wellfan has given above. However, if the results and performances dont improve and we do end up on a winless run, he would need to be mental not to change it up. He must know he doesnt survive another 16 without a win?
