  1. Dodge, your preference is nirvana for most football fans who have been asking for the very same for years. I would personally love to do that and get back to no live tv and the only coverage being Sportscene highlights on a Saturday night. However, how do we get there? Clearly the clubs cant or wont do without tv money at present so the basis for any discussion has to be where we are starting from, not where we would like to end up. I agree, the play-offs I suggested probably does favour the SPL side and could be viewed as unsporting but in a one off game at Hampden its more of a chance than they are getting right now. It would certainly address the meaningless games this season, although I accept you couldnt guarantee that every year, but the play off would be box office. Its just an idea. Im pretty open to anything that might improve the game.....except 8x8x8 which was the most ludicrous proposal Ive ever heard.
  2. These suggestions are not without merit. I especially like the last line!
  3. I wouldnt feel let down if this was his move. He's at least as good as that. Would love to see the big chap play in the EPL eventually. Dont know whats happening at Birmingham but you would think he'd have a shot at it with them.
  4. Indeed. My recollection is that it was the Cooper and Russell show. Great crowd and atmosphere that night with the old terracing and what was the "new" East Stand.
  5. I know exactly what you mean. But dont forget they needed the referee at Fir Park. He was extremely eagre to show Doogie that red card which was harsh at best and totally changed the outlook of the tie. Would have loved to have seen what happened with 11 v 11. Thanks for the link SBCMFC. Great memories.
  6. 93/94 and 94/95 without doubt the best league campaigns I can remember. Genuinely challenging for the title with a real quality squad. The performance against Dortmund away was probably the best I can recall. We scared the crap out of a truly World Class team.
  7. The english play offs are unsporting. The team in 3rd could be 10-15 points clear of the team 6th and lose out in what effectively is a knock out tournament. It may be exciting but hardly fair. My post was in response to the complaints about meaningless games and could be part of a new 14 team set up. I dont think 2 down out of a 14 team league is too many and opens opportunity for the SFL1 teams to freshen things up. Not saying we should do it for the benefit of tv but you cant ignore its importance so it would be silly not to try and market the opportunity.
  8. Player of the Year 1) Michael Higdon - a class act all season now that we have learned to play to his strengths and we have reaped the benefit. In my mind he should win the SPL player of the year. 2)Nicky Law - in any other season he would be player of the year. His ball retention and eye for a pass in midfield have allowed players to get forward in support of Higdon and he has not been shy in that regard either, getting forward into good positions and weighing in with some important goals. 3) Darren Randolph - vital stops at vital times to ensure the flow of games kept going in our favour ensuring the points came home. Also makes very few errors. The best goalkeeper in the League. Young Player of the Year Henrik Ojamaa - very easy to forget his age given the expectations placed on his shoulders since his arrival but that shows the standards he has set. His workrate is second to none even when having a rare stinker. Most assists in the league speaks for itself. His decision making will improve with experience and although I would have liked him to have scored more goals himself, that would just be being picky. Goal of the season Hard to argue with Wee Higgies v Hibs for the build up and technical execution. However I am going to plump for McFadden v Hibs for pure euphoric value and storybook ending. Dont think I have felt that good since Paris 2007! Signing of the Season Himself.......welcome home Faddy. You've made a middle aged man very happy. I dont think Im alone.
  9. Thats why you need play off places for 2nd / 3rd bottom. Would give everyone something to play for without it being instant relegation for 2nd bottom and it would give the tv their grand play off final at Hampden.
  10. Stop it. I'm getting all giddy now! Would love for this to happen but dont want to build myself up for a disappointment. I suppose its possible to get him on another short term deal. Given the wages he has given up it wouldnt be unreasonable to let him go for free if someone came in for him before the end of August. We get him for the Europa League games and he gets a rather large shop window. I will be staggerred if someone doesnt come in for him off the back of his performances so far though.
  11. Must have missed that. But then again whenever Doomcaster opens his mouth I switch off anyway...... I probably agree with you over live tv but I dont see how we can work it in practice given all clubs have players on contracts based on existing revenues. One way round it would be to drop the prices for live games to £10 and factor those into the season ticket.
  12. On his point about a 14 team league. Is it beyond his imagination to take an 8/6 split, make it a 7/7 split and add play-offs for 2nd/3rd bottom v 2nd/3rd top of SFL1. That would bring everyone in the bottom half into the mix and avoid the meaningless games he says he wants to avoid. Oh wait, that might expose his club to a higher risk of being relegated.....
  13. So there was NEVER a financial deal on the table for 12-12-18 as inferred. So they actually have no idea what extra value, if any, there is for 12-12-18. In that case WHY were we being told it had to be all or nothing because the status quo means less money/armageddon? More lies and bullying from a bunch of incompetent idiots who continue to ignore their customers who are telling them how to fix their product. One more thing, Milne accuses Gilmour of self interest but admits he, Hearts and Hibs dont want a 9-3 vote for gate money, presumably because, with Celtic, they have the biggest attendances and they have the biggest gates and want to protect them. I dont personally think splitting gates is fair to those clubs listed, but that decision is undoubtedly bourne of self interest which makes him a total hypocrite.
  14. I would agree. Mcghees first season aside, where we played some really nice football, this is definitely the most enjoyable period since we got second under McLeish. It would be foolish not to be a little concerned. Sheffield Utd are a big club. He has previous links with them and they will obviously be aware of how well McCall has done given they signed Murphy. Just need to hope their chairman is a little mental and gives Warnock another chance. If he does go I think its a fair chance that Randolph and Law might follow him...... Fingers crossed it doesnt happen and they all end up staying!
  15. Excellent coverage on Off the Ball. Well done to Tam Cowan for supporting the issue and also to Fraser who came across well and dispelled any thoughts that the Bois are just a bunch of neds with an attitude problem. Round 1 to the fans.
  16. Absolutely 100% with you. Told a couple of non Wellfans at work what was going on. They werent surprised. Just shook their heads and said this is one of the reasons Scottish Football is in the state it is. This needs to be highlighted as much as possible to embarass United to ensure NO club ever acts this way again.
  17. "CANT RUN, CANT JUMP, ALL HE DOES IS SCORE GOALS" I'd buy one!
  18. Now officially post war record goalscorer. Take a bow big chap. You are now officially a Motherwell Legend!
  19. Henrik. Great workrate great goal. Needs to keep his head shaved. Clearly made all the difference.
  20. Excellent performance and 3 points. Had to work really hard foe it second half but we stood firm and got what we deserved. This team continues to grow. Its a pleasure to be a Well dan right now!
  21. Great first half performance away from home. A little bit open which has exposed us a few times at back but thoroughly entertaining. Same again second have (as long as the goals come our way) will do fine!
  22. Im sure Sydney will bring Mr Cosgroves attention to the matter on Saturday lunchtime!
  23. Best of luck boys. Hope you get a good turn out and some media coverage to make your point.
  24. Congratulations to Lawsey. Well deserved. Great month during an outstanding season in Claret and Amber. Player of the year nomination?
