  1. It was also really encouraging to see the number of our fans on their feet applauding the team at the end. Just goes to show that the fans will back a team that is entertaining and shows real honest endeavour, regardless of the result!
  2. Im jjust about that old! But that means they have been in the lower leagues for 90% of my life! Most Ayr fans would bite your hand off for a win tonight!
  3. Ayr United winning The Championship would be punching abive their weight.....
  4. I see Maguire more a back up to Donnelly in the steely defensive midfield role. Slattery showed today he has a lot more about him than that. Very composed on the ball, can pick a pass and can handle himself as well. Looks like we may have won a watch there.
  5. Really enjoyed that today. Really entertaining end to end game with lots of chances for both sides. Great atmosphere in the ground as well. Sky will be chuffed to bits with the product on offer! Thought we were very unlucky not to take a point from the game. There is no doubting Hibs quality, but we matched them for large parts of the game and should have converted at least one of our chances in the 2nd half. Still very much a work in progress. Our first 11 looks strong, but our options off the bench only weaken us, so we will need a few more bodies in to give us the strength and depth we need for a successful campaign. Getting Shields and Ojala fit and available would also be a massive help. Reasons to be cheerful......
  6. Lots of good performances and things to be pleased about today but the absolute stand out performance was KVV. If he keeps that level of performance up all season we will have a new cult hero. The King is dead. Ling live the King!
  7. Great to see things havent changed on here! For what its worth, I think we need 1 more defender, 2 more midfielders and another attacking option. Whether that will happen or not we can but speculate. But Im much happier tonight than I was this time last week!
  8. There are only 2 players remotely qualified to be Motherwell Captain if its not gonna be SOD. Liam Kelly - consistently impressive performer, great communicator, organiser and motivator. Liam Donnelly. Steely determination and will to win. Plays in an area of the park where he can communicate and influence the game. I wouldnt be upset with either of those, but they are not head and shoulders above SOD for all the reasons listed above. Im glad he has been given the opportunity as it means there have been conversations had and he has given a commitment to stay.
  9. Cant wait for this. Proper game, with a proper home support and a proper away support. Bring it on!
  10. Some clubs pretend to be "more than a club". Others just prove it with their actions. Bloody love Motherwell!
  11. With claret shorts, that would look awesome!
  12. With absolutely nothing to back it up whatsoever, Im gonna continue the habit of a lifetime by looking forward to the season with excitement and anticipation and predict a top 6 finish.... Rangers Celtic Aberdeen Hibs St Johnstone Motherwell Hearts Dundee Dundee United St Mirren Ross County Livingston
  13. On paper at least, Slattery would appear to be a "brilliant addition" and the kind of signing I would be looking for. Lets hope he can hit the ground running and realise his potential. A couple good seasons out of him and move him on for a few million will do just nicely!
  14. There ye are now! Thats what I was looking for!
  15. Not a personal slate at all. Im genuinely interested as to what it is the players are being asked to do that we arent seeing. It might help us all understand and make more balanced and informed comments.
  16. In the absence of anyone better / fitter being available Id go with this on Saturday. 4-2-3-1..... Kelly SOD O'Connor Lamie Carroll Maguire Donnelly Woolery Watt Lawless Van Veen
  17. This to me is the key point. Watt was our most influentail player last year and was the one leading by example putting in a shift and at least trying to encourage others to do the same. We should be looking at our squad and playing in a way that gets the maximum out of what we have. Not shoe horning players into a preferred formation. Given our dearth of midfield creativity, surely playing Watt thru the middle where he can be more influential and bridge the gap between the midfield and strikers is the way to go?
  18. Which would let pretty much all our season ticket holders in if equally applied....
  19. Fairly certain we could allow all of our season ticket holders in and have sufficient social distancing around the stadium. It was a lot easier to get parked on Saturday though!
  20. Thought that was actually a very decent performance today. We totally controlled the first half for 40 mins and virtually gifted them their 2-0 HT lead with 2 sloppy goals. That said, we upped the tempo a bit in the 2nd half and it was pleasing to see the mental toughness required to get ourselves back in the game and then drive home our superiority. A good run out for a few of the players still looking for fitness. Donnelly in particular, while not being great will benefit from getting 65 mins under his belt. Thought OConnor did ok albeit showed his inexperience on a number of occasions but he will get better. Van Veen looks like he will hold the ball up and lead the line well, albeit he needs to sharpen up a bit in front of goal, he should have scored at least one of the several chances he had today. Woolery looks pacey and with a bit about him. Lots of positives to take from the game, but we really need to toughen up a bit at the back.
