Not many of our players would get pass marks last season from January onwards but cornelius did enough to retain in his place in the team and certainly not at the expense of maguire or spittal.i would have him in my team,he gives us a bit of energy in there and atleast he makes forward runs, even though it's clear the manager has no interest in any of our midfield getting forward.thursday is huge for us and like you my concern would be his fitness as he's already 90 minutes behind the players that played the other night and some of them looked out on there feet after 30 minutes.

I actually thought the same about woolery,if we could have maybe kept him until this tie was over giving how short we with attacking options.i would like to see us go 352 and have odonnell and carroll force there players back and give us a much needed threat out wide,I would have tierney in to give us a direct running threat from the number 10 position.like you it's who we play up front that could give the biggest headache, van veen looked so far off the pace last night, you would have to think he won't train much if at all between now and thursday to try and get over whatever injury he's carrying.i don't rate efford that much but I would fancy him over shields with whatever chances come our way.were staring down the barrell after last night,I really hope we don't stick with the same formation that's been failing for months,we don't have a lot of options but I think a change in formation and getting some width from the wing backs with tierney hopefully providing a threat behind two strikers should be attacking enough without leaving ourselves open.weve joked about alexander's tombolo style team selections but he really needs to pull something out the bag on thursday.

We don't need to follow other clubs examples as a reason to put us off getting shot of alexander.aberdeen chose to get rid of a reasonably successful manager in mcinnes and replace him with a guy that will make a manager but he is the chairman's pal.hibs went for a rookie and then realised after about 5 minutes he wasn't upto the job and mcghee who has done nothing in management since his first season with us only ended up at dundee cause his mate strachan is there.i personally don't rate alexander and I think he will be gone sooner rather than later but in the grand scheme of things we don't have the worst track record of appointing managers,so when the time comes I'm sure we will be fine.

There was a spell last season when mugabi had improved,he was looking solid enough and there wasn't any daft mistakes but then he got punted to right back and his game was all over the place again.i was hoping we would see some improvement defensively this season and we just might but it doesn't bode to well that the first goal conceded has came from a howler already.we have umpteen defenders on the books but yet were a shambles no matter who plays, that needs sorted and quick cause we don't look like a team that will be scoring loads, all it could take is one goal to beat us just like last night.
-
I think we will see a couple of changes to the starting line up next week but that will be all,I'm fully expecting the same formation and approach to the game.sadly last night is the norm for us,it's not like we can say this team has 2 or 3 levels it could go up and there's nothing to worry about.
-
I totally agree with that,we've all seen us playing lower ranked teams many a time and we played right into there hands last night by playing slow pedestrian stuff,I'm not saying woolery would have been the saviour but we were crying out for a player with pace that would be direct.shields has pace and puts himself about but it's not enough,he offers nothing beside that,as you say him and mugabi should be benched for next week.i would go 352 with tierney in behind two strikers, atleast that way we would have a player who's first thought is to turn and go at the opposition,I would have cornelius in as well to offer a bit more energy in the middle of the park.if we see no reaction next week and it's more of the same then alexander should be sacked.
-
Agreed, any scouting report on us could be writing on the back of a stamp Spot on,I don't particularly think spittal is a good player but alexander said how impressed he was against us last season so then why sign him and then play him in a different position to the one that he caught your eye playing in,it makes no sense.tierney should be playing,he's the only one that when he gets the ball his first thought is to turn and go at the opposition.bang on about the formations,if you have the right players and everyone knows there role then any formation will work,we look a mess and not one area of the team looks comfortable, there's no partnerships that's formed,to be honest no player looks comfortable with what's around them.all it takes is one or two square pegs in round holes and everything becomes a mess.it looks to be like we're in for another season of chopping and changing at centre back and in midfield.
-
That's total delusion,he must be the only person watching who thought we were the better side,he's trying to deflect away from the fact that his team has put in yet another clueless performance.
-
Fuck me,did he really say that
-
That was absolutely pitiful and probably topped any of the eye bleeding garbage we had to witness last season.none of the issues from last season have been resolved, the full backs offering nothing,a midfield 3 with no pace that can only pass the ball sideways, fuck all from out wide and van veen so far off the pace we would have been as well playing with 10 men, then add in the soft goal to cost us.its.no surprise we lost that tonight because that's all this team can muster, were brutal and if we had lost by 3,we would have no complaints.

Very true

Aye robinson seems to be under real pressure already judging by most of the comments I've seen online from there fans.i think a lot of them took an instant dislike to him after comments he made as soon as he arrived.
-
I'm with you there,I would like to think we will have a bit to much for sligo over the two legs but I'm very wary at the same time.our fitness levels won't be where they need to be right now which could be a factor.our performances at this stage last season in the league cup were awful,if we turn up in that frame of mind again then we could easily be in trouble here.im hoping we come out and go for it from the start on thursday and look for goals and it's not just sit back at a slow pace and hope something happens.
-
Were a bit weaker in terms of numbers but that's about it,let's be honest none of the players that have left will be a miss.we won't really know exactly how our squad is shaping up before the end of the transfer window,so we will just need to be patient on that score,we definitely need atleast another couple,I still think we need a bit of creativity in midfield and a central striker,no harm to shields but we can't be relying on him leading the line anytime van veen is out, which he will be at point this season.
-
Having had a look at the club's twitter there, some of the comments about woolery leaving are insane, the woman calling burrows and the club out for selling him after her weans got woolerys name on the back of there new strips was a particular highlight, that and someone thanking woolery for lighting up fir park while he was here.
-
If he wasnt settled here then it's best for both parties that he's moved on.i doubt we will have got much for him but if it's enough to sign a decent replacement or strengthen elsewhere, then it's all we can ask for really.
-
I don't see us bringing in anymore defenders and we will be going into the new season with what we have.i could be wrong but other than odonnell I think alexander has either signed or re-signed every other defender we have,it's now upto him to get the best out of what we have and make us better in that area, let's hope we also see an end to the chopping and changing in defence, that was doing us no favours last season,he needs to settle on a back 4 or 5 or whatever the case may be and let some partnerships develop.
-
I've never heard of this guy but he seems to have done well under alexander before and having a left footer in the front line will give us something a bit different as well.
-
Not for me mate,st mirren is one team I never want to do well no matter how many ex well employees are there, there fans seem to think they are something that there clearly not.
-
I'm thinking the same,if we aren't switched on for this tie we could be in trouble.i would like to think we will have enough over the two legs but i really don't see it being comfortable for us whatever happens.
-
I agree with that,I think kilmarnock could quite easily go back down.I don't envy there fans that will have to witness donnolly every other week strutting about on that plastic pitch like hes a player.
-
I totally agree,I'm glad we're not having to do a total rebuild this time and bringing in a new player every other day.this summer was always going to be quieter than most,I think we have brought in two solid players in mcginn and spittal and if we can get add the right quality in whoever else we bring in we will be just fine again this season.i do think we need to add two forward players that are better than shields and efford,I don't fancy the idea of relying on both of those as starters every week.im not sure we will be adding any more defenders unless someone leaves so let's hope there's some hard work being done over pre season to make us a lot more solid at the back.
-
With st mirren first up,gallagher won't have to wait long for van veen to rip the pish out him again.
-
With the exception of mcgeady, hibs seem like they are aiming for a young squad of players,so it was no surprise that mcginn was told he wasn't going to feature.i think he will be decent for us which will do giving how bad odonnell was last season and if it means that we don't need to witness mugabi lumbering about at right back then even better.
-
Mcginn is a solid enough signing at this level but it will only really make sense if odonnell gets moved on,as I don't think having two experienced players for the one position on our budget is necessary.the worry for me is that he isn't any better than odonnell so is he going to improve an already dodgy defence, cause I don't see us doing much more in terms of bringing in anymore defenders,I suppose the real hope is that players like sol and ojala can find a bit of form and the managers sticks with a settled defence.
