I don't think he needs Motherwell Don't think he would touch us in a million years. But I think he's a good manager. That's the only reason I mentioned him - that and he's still being linked with us. Won't happen. But whatever baggage he might have if he was Motherwell manager I'd still support him
-
I feel like I'm having to defend myself here - pretty sure it was said later that he wasn't at fault. Hibs are on record as saying he did nothing wrong
-
There were issues at Hibs I think but pretty sure he was vindicated over it in the end. I've never banged the we must have Lennon drum but I don't think he would come here in a million years. Like someone else said he's made his millions and he doesn't need us
-
Im personally not bothered about "bigoted baggage". I just said that he's been linked with us a lot in the past and still is if you look at the bookies odds. For all Neil's faults I think he was targeted badly by a bunch of morons. Getting sent bullets in the post. That's not on him My family are Irish Roman Catholic on my dad's side and they came to Scotland because of the troubles. If people are bigots that's on them. Do I have baggage because I'm half Irish? Robbo is Northern Irish. What's the difference - because Neil managed Celtic?
-
I've always said Neil Lennon would be a good shout but he's always linked to us and nothing. He doesn't need us tbh
-
I hope not. I think he should get a couple of games the same as Kettlewell did - and a decision should be made after that
-
Halliday has also spoken to the press saying he's gutted that Kettlewell has gone. Perhaps the rumours of Kettlewell losing the dressing room were exactly that. He said the mood at training was very flat today.
-
We got beat by Cork City 2 nil in a bounce game today....
-
But he's not the only one - and he gets more abuse than most. I also don't think he's been shite for some time. He was playing well till the last injury. Does Davor get the abuse SOD gets for example
-
I personally think that's a tad harsh on their part. I've never felt that he regularly threw us under the bus. Like I said the other day there are videos of him going over to the support at the end of games referring to us as ****ing brilliant
-
Right now I don't feel like cutting him any slack. He had the right to support Stuart - the issue for me is this has been directed at all of us. And that includes the well society email reminding us of how we should behave. Patronising tosh in my view The under 14s thing was a safeguarding issue whether people agree or not This is just throwing supporters who didn't abuse the manager under the bus
-
That's right - but I have the right to. Same as other people have the right to disagree with my posts
-
No he's not fair game. He's an easy target. There's a difference
-
I think SOD is an easy target for some fans and has been for quite some time now
-
I get your point - completely. I just don't think abuse on any level is acceptable. People are human and sometimes there will be a tipping point - and the tipping point for one person might be different for someone else. I'm also very sorry that our club is getting a kicking - but that's on the board who put that statement out I've been going to games since 1979 so I do know the abuse other managers took
-
I don't think that matters. Just because other managers had more abuse doesn't make it OK that this has happened. The issue is with the people dishing it out in my view. Not the folk on the receiving end
-
I've seen people elsewhere on social media say they witnessed abuse that was directed at him at the last two away games I've also seen players get abuse at home games - so if they get abuse - why wouldn't Kettlewell?
-
Agree
-
We are getting the reaction because the manager has come out and said that's why he's left - when others didn't. I think so anyway.
-
Other people have said on here over the last couple of days that that's not accurate. There were issues with him and Alexander but why does that have to be SODs fault?
-
I agree with you on all of these points. But some fans are saying he wasn't abused at all (particularly on Facebook). When other fans are saying they witnessed it. I was stunned by the society statement tbh - I personally don't need to be told how to conduct myself at a football match. If the club had said in the first place that it was a section of fans acting like this - it would have been more appropriate - and accurate
-
I agree with that too and I've said it more than once on social media. Not just on the manager - players need to take accountability too
-
Don't think so tbh. Think it's pretty odds on we would struggle to beat them either way
-
Pretty balanced take on things in not the old firm by Blair Meikle. Im rubbish at posting links when I'm on my phone but if you Google not the old firm Stuart Kettlewell it will take you to the article
-
I think all of this could have been handled better but I don't think it's necessarily bullshit. Some people who were at both St Johnstone games have said there was a lot of abuse directed at him and players from a small section of our support - not just booing. The issue is that all fans are now being judged in the same way. I also think the reaction to that interview was a bit over the top - even if I was really annoyed by what he said - I still wouldn't go to a game and scream and shout at him or anyone else - fans who've done that have made their choice to do it. I completely understand your points - I'm pretty sure Kettlewell knows the entire fan base wasn't against him - it just seems that the statement was rushed out and the board haven't considered what the backlash would be against the wider fan base. The well society also sent an email out saying they were sorry to lose the manager in the circumstances and said something about reflecting on the impact robust challenges can have. I wasn't really sure what to think when I read that tbh.
