Word is that Billy Davies is being linked with the vacant post at Forrest with the club hoping to have him in place as manager before Saturday.
  2. McGhee may not be a Motherwell man but he got us to Europe, no matter what other criticisms of him there are and I know there are plenty, I'm sure we wouldn't swap that for anything. He also got praise for the manner in which he conducted himself after Phil died. I don't think someone needs to have Motherwell in their blood to have the best interests of the club at heart. Just because he doesn't support Motherwell doesn't mean he doesn't care about the players. Yes he talked himself into a rather large wage rise but lets remember it was Boyle's decision to pay him that wage. Look at Butcher, he wasn't a Motherwell fan but he's still remembered on the whole with fondness. Supporting the club doesn't necessarily mean someone will be a good manager, the two things don't necessarily go hand in hand.
  3. The problems at Motherwell aren't just down to McGhee obviously. We have a club that seems to be run on a shoestring obviously because no-one wants to revisit administration. I'm not sure why McGhee going the extra mile outwith his duties would solve anything, last year it seemed to work fine. Just as the players don't need to support Motherwell to play for the club, McGhee doesn't need to have claret and amber blood to manage Motherwell.
  4. How would that be organised though, in such a way that the club would recognise the points of view of said Motherwell fans? Surely the people who would approach the club would also need to be voted in in some way. I think if it goes down this route we would end up with too many groups asking the same questions and getting precisely nowhere.
  5. I don't think the silence is deafening when it comes to McGhee either, to say he's had some criticism from the support of late would be a massive understatement.
  6. Faddy, Tommy Coyne, but my favourite well player ever, Stevie Kirk.
  7. Loyalty is a 2 way thing. I sit in the East Stand and even when things were going well last season you get a section of fans who sit and moan their way through every game, criticising players sometimes even before they have kicked a ball, telling them how they could play better. The fact is, if we were third in the table again, this wouldn't be so much of an issue. Motherwell fans are loyal but they can also be too critical even when the team is winning. Maybe it's time we realised that he isn't going anywhere soon and give him and the team some support over the next few games, because it's going to be a hard run in and the team are going to need all the support they can get.
  8. You don't think the team deserve our loyalty, is that too much to ask? We've said plenty, now he's saying his piece (to a paper a lot of people wouldn't wipe their arse with). I think this has already been done to death elsewhere, there's not a lot that he's said here that hasn't been said elsewhere already. That's the reason why I don't understand what makes this piece so objectionable, there's very little new in there.
  9. As I've said, I'm not a fan of McGhee but we've had plenty of things to say about him and whether we like it or not, articles like this are going to appear. There are very few managers who spend a lifetime at one club and McGhee is no different.

Could be the win that sparks our season into life. It was an important win, we needed that.
  11. It is time to back the team, there's loads of us who aren't McGhee fans but it looks like for now at least we are stuck with him and him us. He does have the right to question our loyalty the same as we have questioned his, we may not like it, but he's entitled to his opinion also.
  12. I haven't seen the Herald but my mum mentioned yesterday that there was a really nice piece written about Eileen O Donnell. I think it's time we as a support gave Paul Quinn a break, he has made mistakes, but who doesn't?
  13. I don't think there's a need as such, just that a few people have expressed the wish on the thread and it had been said that there would need to be feedback from Mfc before this could go ahead, as yet, I haven't seen any response on behalf of the club. I have actually tried to make some kind of contribution to the memorial fund, I went to the benefit night, I donated to the fund for the flag and I bought a couple of the dvds. The point that I was trying to make was that people have asked if a minute's applause would be appropriate, they were told it would need to be run by the people at MFC and there hasn't been a response as yet which doesn't leave a lot of time for fans to be told yes or no. The players with their huddle are having a public show of memorial. Of course they were closer to Phil than most of us were, but given that a lot of fans were at the game and saw what happened, perhaps fans just want to show some support for the players. So if the huddle has been given the ok, surely Motherwell can say yes or no to the fans before Saturday.
  14. It's 2 days to go till the game, I appreciate that staff probably won't be back at work until Saturday, but that's the day of the game and it looks as if there has been no yes or no from the club regarding the minutes applause. I think the minutes applause is a good idea but seeing as the players are having the huddle before kick off perhaps the minutes applause could be done then. I know that it's important to take the wishes of the players into account and the O'Donnell family but do the club need to give permission for fans to clap their hands on the 78th minute of the game? What would happen if fans decided to do it anyway, there's not a lot the club could do about it. As it is, it seems that it might be too late for the club to give a yes/no and for the message to be passed to the fans.

Oh yes, the tosser who didn't think Phil O'Donnell's death was worthy enough of a minute's silence.
  16. People have been giving you pelters for a month? A whole month? Usually the mention that you support the Well is enough to have people taking the piss.
  17. Merry Christmas, here's hoping 2009 is a good one for everyone and for Motherwell fc.
  18. McGhee was on the news saying Porter hasn't signed a contract with anyone.
  19. The above is a rumour also isn't it? "Reliable source?" A player, player's dad, tea lady, someone who had their ear pressed up against the dressing room wall said that Mark McGhee has the confidence of the players. Either name your source or leave it out.
  20. I actually agree with you on this one, if there were stories of McGhee in screaming and shouting at players shocker, then I think we'd be on here giving him pelters, he doesn't scream and shout and he's still getting pelters. If someone's confidence is at rock bottom, shouting and screaming at them isn't going to motivate them. Craigan mentioned it on the radio show, he spoke about situations where managers shouted and screamed in people's faces and if it had been anyone on the street doing it he'd have smacked them in the face. Of course the culture in football is different but that doesn't necessarily make it acceptable. The players seem to be at an all time low, shouting and screaming in their faces telling them they are crap isn't necessarily the best way to motivate them at this point in time. They get enough of that from the sidelines at times.
  21. He did mention during the hour that he had been in training earlier on in the day. I enjoyed the show, I felt a bit better about things after listening to it, I know that Craigan was obviously not going to be able to say anything against McGhee on live radio so who knows what's really going on behind the scenes, he did have a laugh and a joke but when asked directly about the state the team are currently in, he didn't sound as if he thought the way we are playing at the moment was a big laugh. Hearing that only one of the players acknowledged the fans on Saturday at the end pissed me off more than Craigan being on live radio, but again, it's whatever cheeses you off at the time.
  22. I don't know how long in advance Craigan would have been asked to appear, it could have been arranged months ago, I think if he had cancelled it would have looked worse.
  23. You could hardly not laugh at some of the questions that were posted on here that he was asked.
  24. Yeah it should definitely have been cancelled because Accies beat Motherwell the day before. Lets put a ban on laughing or having any fun until Motherwell score again.
