Well, I'm still sorry it didn't work out with Gannon, but it's done and that's that. I hope the auld yins do Motherwell a good turn during whatever length of time they are at the helm. Auld Erchie was Fergie's right hand man when I was a boy. I haven't been able to keep apace with events today, so are they just in charge until the end of the season or what?

Doesn't seem two years since that tragic day.

Gannon Sacked! Motherwell Part Company with Manager

Is auld Broony a ladies man? He always seems a harmless old grandad type. -

Very fair point. I don't know what's been going on in the background, but nor do the majority of others, and only time will tell what the full story is. If Gannon had lost interest then, as I said earlier, fair enough, but there's so much yet to be revealed. I'm sad he's no longer manager right now and it's far too early to be making reasoned judgements and apportioning blame. -

I don't know whether that's true or not, Pepper, but what is that assertion based upon? -

Whilst young dazza got carried away when using that word, I think he is right to lament Gannon's departure and I don't understand the thinking of older ( and supposedly wiser ) posters who are so pleased with events. Gannon was dealt a very tough hand when he arrived at Fir Park due to the tiny squad he inherited and the tiny budget he had with which to re-build it, yet he had the team mid-table. His belief in youth was exciting, his outspoken views an interesting change from the establishment inanity of most managers. I really think there could have been some exciting times ahead and I hope Gannon's sacking doesn't prove to be a big mistake. If it's true Gannon had had lost interest and wanted out, fair enough, but let's wait and see. Nobody yet knows the full story, hence my overriding feeling is of sadness at the lost potential, and I hope this decision doesn't come back to haunt you. -
And could the sender tell me where ours are ?

Gannon Sacked! Motherwell Part Company with Manager

Ya Bezzer, bear in mind what he started with - wasn't it twelve professionals or so? He was forced into using a youth/loan signing strategy yet still managed to get some very good results. Yes, recent results were poor, but looking at Gannon's squad it seems inevitable there would be some setbacks, and I think he would have kept Motherwell mid-table this season and then pushed on. I think he's a talented guy and his approach would have paid off, and although I know nothing about what went on behind the scenes, I'm still sorry he has left Fir Park. The next few years could have been very exciting. -

You'll be right on that, and I don't know whether it was an unavoidable decision, but I think it's a sad day for Motherwell because Gannon could have been a fantastic manager for you. It's sad things didn't work out. -
Aye, Rick, Keano's boys gave the hoops a belting today I see.

I would make one exception - Gary Mcallister. Bit of a gamble but could be an inspired choice.

Looking forward to hearing what JG himself has to say about his departure. He isn't one to pull any punches. -
You've a sick sense of humour, Mr Hat

I hope the aim is to get a young manager with potential again. Perhaps from the lower leagues in Scotland or England, someone who has demonstrated he can achieve something on a small budget. Whilst Motherwell is a relatively small club it's also a top flight club and is a very good opportunity for someone on his way up. No bias here, but what about someone like Darren Ferguson? Has made a very good start to his managerial career, has Scottish connections and Motherwell could be just the right kind of club.

Yeah, after managing the richest club in the world Sparky would be desperate to make his comeback in the SPL at Fir Park.

I don't know the ins and outs of his contract or his long term intentions, but I think he is a top young manager and it's a big loss for MFC. Shame his tenure was so short -
As I said in the other thread, please don't go down the predictable road of some old dud who has been hanging around Scottish football since time began and who has nothing new to offer.

I didn't know about this until just now! Immediate reaction - I think it's a shame for Motherwell. I think Gannon would have proved a very good acquisition for the club and would have taken the team forward. He is a talented young manager who was taking taking the club down the youth route and who was breathing new life into the set-up and the SPL. Results had been poor in the past few matches, but that happens with such a young team. Clearly the question marks about his ability to maintain cordial working relationships were justified. I hope you don't end up with a second-rate establishment name who has been in Scottish management for years and will only offer the same old ideas. Sad to hear this and I hope it doesn't ruin the rest of the season. -
No need for that, WA. Cooper is just as unhappy as you are.

Bit premature there, mate. Too early for relegation scraps but a win or two soon is vital. Doesn't matter how the points come, just get them. A couple of wins in the next few games and it would look very different again.
-
Losing becomes a habit - just as winning does- because confidence can quickly drain. So important to end this run asap and to start putting points on the board again. They mustn't panic during this bad patch but re-discover what worked so well earlier in the season. They have the ability and one win can turn it around.
