  1. £2 to watch European football ! I don't anything about the current standard of living in Romania, and £2 might be a fair sum for a match, but from here it looks bloody great !
  2. DCd's team looks good, blending youth and experience and allowing the pace of Humphrey to be used later on. I'll go with that , and if they lose blame him Now, prediction time. First leg, Steaua 2-1 Motherwell Second leg, Motherwell 2-0 Steaua Job's a good un
  3. Cheers for that. Are the houses still there ?
  4. Superb knowledge there, arbroath Was the main stand built to not run the full length of the pitch due to cost ?
  5. That's exactly what worries me about hooligan memoirs, mate; that nostalgia for the clothes, music, friendships of the time will give a romantic slant to the violence. If an author uses their book to express remorse and illustrate the reality of the broken bones, fair enough, but I wouldn't want to read a straight re-telling of the violence where you can almost hear the music of the day providing a soundtrack.
  6. I'm enjoying reading this thread, as you all plan getting free bevy like it's a military operation.
  7. Don't mean to sound patronising, but for a woman travelling alone I would say it's the safest bet. Not that women shouldn't travel alone in the same way guys do, but it's always better to be sensible. Safety in numbers etc in a unfamiliar country.
  8. Today's values? As far as I'm aware the vast majority of football fans at the time were disgusted by the hooliganism that emerged in the 1970s and flourished in the 1980s, and to compare football hooligans to soldiers is insulting. Incidentally, I would hope that everyone has an abivalence to war.
  9. I haven't seen the new United shirt up close to judge. You'd think red is easy enough to get right, but the shade does differ. I prefer a deeper red, but don't like the new strip anyway. The black v on the front is a nonsense, as are the all black socks. Just as 'Well fans demand the hoop on the jersey, I demand the socks are black with red turnover and white band, and anything else is sacrilege. We should use the strip worn in the Manchester derby for the 50th anniversary of Munich and stick a club crest on it. Perfect.
  10. I said earlier the adidas number was far too yellow, and would add the Untouchables strip as worn by McFadden was too much the other way - far too orange. Great design - I bought it on e-bay - but the amber strays into the tangerine zone. What do you think ?
  11. Actually I'll need to listen to Radio Scotland Sportsound via the internet, but you know what I mean
  12. It's on the radio and that's good enough for me. Never mind these fancy dan internet pictures, get the wireless on
  13. I'm ambivalent about these kind of books. Yes, they are interesting social history, yet by definition they tend to glamorise violence, giving a nostalgic romance to what was thuggery. Is such mindless brutality worthy of analysis ?
  14. That's something after the last round, where the Albanian leg wasn't even on the radio. Public service broadcasting ffs, which is meant to give voice to minority tastes, and perhaps Motherwell in Europa Cup qualifying can be placed in that category.
  15. I remember that being posted previously, good to see it again. Interesting to read the colours were changed to emulate Bradford City, at that time very successful, and also to prevent colour clashes. By the way, that 1979-82 adidas number is positively canary yellow !
  16. Probably was the Soup Dragons, yes, in Bellshill. That was a good series and I also remember the Rock Family Trees series Peel did. Great stuff.
  17. It would have taken weeks to get there by boat, same for the return, and must have given no time for a close season break at all. And what about that strip: no claret and amber in those days ?
  18. Geat pics there, mate, though it begs the question why were Motherwell in Argentina in 1928 ??
  19. Thanks Keef, Sound Of The Suberbs definitely rings a bell, and I seem to remember him talking to Primal Scream in that series during a visit to Bellshill.
  20. I'm pretty sure this is actually true and not an urban myth. Can anyone shed some light on the great man's affiliation with Motherwell ?
  21. Now there speaks a Scotsman. Free booze info, no matter how obscure And I like the way you regard this as "vital info"
  22. Will it even be on radio, in light of the away game in Albania ?
  23. The nonsensical remarks of the Steaua owner aren't worth commenting on. Clearly the guy is an embarrassment, as confirmed by the Steaua fans who have arrived on the forum in the past couple of days. Seemingly he makes Romanov at Hearts look like the full shilling.
