  1. This is McGhee’s go to strategy when playing teams who he perceives has having better, stronger players. If we do there will only be one outcome. 3-1 Hearts.
  2. I remember the pre replica days when the home top never changed. Our 60s top was around for nearly a decade. The classic kit is unveiled for the first time in August 1960. Still looks as good as the day it was launched.
  3. We change it nearly every season and I suspect we will have another new Macron template for season 17-18.
  4. The same could be said about both Hibernian and Dundee United, and they were relegated to the championship. It was different for St.Mirren as they regularly flirted with the drop. And possibly could drop even further. Who knows what could happen to us if we suffered the same fate.
  5. I suppose we are gambling on selling an unknown player on, rather then relying on the tried and tested pro. However, we do still have a few experienced premiership players in our squad, such as McManus, Skippy, Lasley, Hammell, Samson and McFadden. You could also include Ainsworth in that list as he is certainly not new to this level.
  6. Season - 2010/2011 finished 6th Season - 2011/2012 finished 3rd Season - 2011/2012 finished 2nd Season - 2013/2014 finished 2nd Season - 2014/2015 finished 11th Season - 2015/2016 finished 5th I hate using the term, ‘punching above our weight’, however, in the halcyon days when we were finishing 3rd or 2nd, we were doing just that. In the last two seasons St Johnstone have been situated above us in the league. And I would now suggest that they are replacing us as the new ‘punching above their weight’ champions. They are now the standard by which I judge our weekly performances. My reasoning behind this is that they probably have a similar yearly budget to us. However, they recently appear to be having a greater week in, week out success. So what is Tommy Wright doing that Mark McGhee isn’t? Is he a better tactician? Is he better in the transfer market? Is he a better man manager? Or, is he due for a fall from grace? Whilst he hasn’t attained the giddy heights of 2nd or 3rd, he has at least delivered some silverware to Perth in his tenure. Something we have not achieved since the days of Tommy McLean. They are currently joint 5th in the league with 31 points, although they have played a game more than us.
  7. A rare sight, Motherwell players holding silverware that’s not cutlery.
  8. Not a bad shout. Stubbs knows the game here really well. However, I would give McGhee until the end of the season and pray that he can keep us up. Since the mid 80s, at times we’ve rode our relegation luck. It would be arrogant to think that it won’t happen to us again and as sure as night follows day it will eventually happen. As Dundee United, Hibernian and St Mirren have all shown, if you take your eye of the ball you can get yourself into a real mess. It goes without saying there are some tough times ahead.
  9. I wasn’t at the game, however, from what I can gather it was the same old, same old. Apart from he play-off game, our recent record against Rangers is nothing short of abysmal. The relegation dog fight starts here.
  10. I don’t think it’s an irrelevance, it’s a fact. If we fail to stop losing late goals the consequences can be severe. However, hopefully it won’t come to that and similar to last season we will start to climb the table, starting with 3 points tomorrow.
  11. Same old, same old tomorrow, or are we going to stop gift wrapping goals to the Old Firm? Hopefully it has finally sunk in (I doubt it ever will) that we need to put a stop to this historical blight on our game.
  12. St Mirren v Motherwell seaso1965/66 A rare Summer Cup away kit appearance
  13. Some Well players feature in the Scottish Football Book No6
  14. Apart from a few notable exceptions, we’ve been bottling it against the Old Firm in cup games since the dawn of time. What makes it worse is, we can’t even blame the intimidating atmosphere, as the stadium looked half empty. This is not the Rangers of old, this is a pale imitation playing in the same stadium. In cup competitions we are historically weak, cowardly and intimidated by the Old Firm. No matter what standard of player they have at the time. Yesterday, we were beaten by an ageing striker, who like it or not, plays every game as if it was his last. If you had to ask me who I would prefer in my team, Skippy or Miller? It would be Miller every time.
  15. I’ve still not been able to look at any of the other results from todays games, and I probably never will. The cup means nothing to me now.
