  1. If and indeed when we land here I'll be hoping Newcastle or Liverpool I think. Cheaper away trip.
  2. You've changed your tune, just the other week you were saying much to everyones surprise you'd like Reynolds back!
  3. As for pace, maybe a few years ago. Wouldn't touch him.
  4. Tansey was someone who seemed to look quite bright early season and tailed off. Probably could do worse but we'd be worse off I suspect if he replacing Jennings. Clancy was good cover but no great loss. Versatility helped us out but something of a bombscare as well. If Saunders is fit and Page who had a couple of promising games can step up we might not even need to replace him.
  5. Quite like it. Shame it still says Cash Converters on it, but I guess rather that than us scrambling for a sponsor but was nice getting last years kit before the slightly red neck sponsorship was done.
  6. If James McFadden after a long premier league career is never going to come back then why did Brian McLair come back? Played at a higher level and probably didn't earn much less than McFadden despite being in a slightly less over the top money era. Although no doubt many wish he hadn't bothered given he seemed shot through 2nd time around, but I doubt he came for the final pay day. He came for the reason McFadden might one day resign, to keep on playing and because he presumably had a soft spot for the club where he made his start in the game. At 29 it isn't going to happen now, don't see it. Not even the lure of CL qualifiers and a short term in the window deal. But 32/33 year old McFadden short on top level offers if he has the hunger to play might well see a year or two at Fir Park as a good way to sign off. Who knows it is a nice thought, allow yourself to dream MJC. You'll cope with the disappointment if it doesn't happen.
  7. It nearly an impossible call. Hammell and Lasley probably just about most consistent. Jennings after a slow start up there, as is Nicky Law. Big Higdon for all his detractors been key and 16 goals been a solid return. Hutchison not to far away from being a contender, likewise Randolph though feel he was a bit more impressive last season.

    St Johnstone

Humphrey by miles. good to see Murphy and Ojamma among the goals as well.
  9. Even Quinn was a central defender moved wide in a crisis I believe. Did ok in general though.
  10. If he isn't a natural defender/fullback it reflects really badly on many we've had over the years in the position! He played there for so long now he is clearly our first choice and by and large he does a decent job. He does have some poor games and I don't get why he has to hit quite so many of our set pieces. Sure he does put in some decent deliveries but there are days when he clearly not quite at it and others who can surely also put in decent deliveries rarely step up. He also on balance is clearly a better full back than central midfielder on evidence of games played for us. Generally overlaps reasonably well, is capable of beating a man on his own on occasion. Wriggled past couple of defenders on a few occasions I can think of, lost it trying to beat defenders plenty as well but that is fairly normal. Probably better going forward than the defensive side but a few mares aside don't see him as any sort of liability more than any other member of the back line. Hammell only one would say is definitely more consistent. Saunders pre injury looked alright shows potential and has some advantages in size and seems quite spring heeled with it but by far and away currently back up be it at full back or in the centre.
  11. I love these lists as they always causes arguments and there are always some stranges choices. All the usual names from the team that won the league in the 30's to the team that won league and scottish cups in the 50's are worth consideration but long before my time and not really sure who was the best from each team. The key players that made the team tick. A good few from the Ancell babes era would in the list, not to mention your Wark and Pettigrew's and you could probably have 20 names before the modern era easily. My first game watching Motherwell was in 86 so from that time onwards the players I think worth arguing a case for would be Bobby Russell Tom Boyd Davie Cooper Luc Niholt Dougie Arnott Tommy Coyne Phil O'Donnell Paul Lambert Colin O'Neil Miodrag Krivokapic Ally Maxwell Sieb Dykstra Brian Martin Rab McKinnon James McFadden Scott McDonald Ross McCormack Stephen Hughes Martyn Corrigan More or less trying to pick from throughout all my time watchign the game. I suspect I'd quickly edit out a few like Hughes and McCormack for only doing the business over quite a short period. Likewise I didn't put in likes of Brannan and Spencer. Good players but did it all to rarely and tainted by the huge money they were on.
  12. Not saw a replay yet but at the time thought it looked like a yellow card offence. But everyone that had a better look described it as a shocker. Pretty sure it was mistimed rather than malicious though if it as bad as suggested still doesn't affect the outcome.
  13. Anyway back to the game itself. I disappointed mostly at losing to a side that really didn't do much to earn the win. We handed it to them on a plate. Poor decision on the corner, but we still need to defend it. Get a penalty to get back in the tie and squander it before gifting a 2nd cheap goal. Sure it was a tidy finish but way we defended it was like scoring against a bunch of mannequins we stood off so much. A spirited finish sure but over the piece we rarely played anything like we can but on balance of play a draw seemed the right result. But can't really complain, but we lost the game much more than they won it. Big selection headaches next week, but 3 points towards that potential CL spot would just about make up for todays showing.
  14. I would say there is still a lot more evidence to the positive than one quietish showing today. Was only a week ago he was firing in another belter. Never likely to keep up intial impact but by no means is he showing David Ferrere style career form.
  15. On todays showing he would be but I don't think you can down play his general impact since he joined!
  16. I have zero confidence in the 10 diddy teams sticking together, collective bottle will be shattering at thought of TV money evaporating away not to mention the addiciton to multiple OF games at home a season that seems to kill off league expansion. That said I don't know how long the current contract is or how watertight it is. If there was 3 seasons to go and the money is locked in then easier to plunge Rangers to the bottom tier when you confident they be back up for contract renewal time.
  17. I could live with that to be honest. Keeps the TV companies happier and still a win for us and rest of 10.
  18. You missed the point or are being obtuse. Call it overrated if you like but even the biggest Las enthusiasts are realistic about his actual quality and contribution. Just there is greater attachment or man love for reasons beyond mere technical ability or whatever.
  19. I don't think that is the case, more that the level of appreciation for him exceeds what you might expect for his actual ability. People don't think he is the best midfielder in Scotland but he does a better job than the few naysayers would have you believe, has been pretty consistent ever since he first appeared on the scene, never gives anything less than 100% and has been around almost forever. Add in arguably best form of life and when you already the housewives favourite the level of Keith love is approaching messiah like status! If he bangs in the goal that clinches Champions Leagues or wins the cup he should be deified!

If he keeps up the start he's had I'll still be resigned to losing him in the summer, but at least if that is the case it'll be softened by a hefty fee for his services. Great result though, delighted to see him signed up.
  21. I don't see how people don't rate Clarkson. I can understand how they didn't rate him and even have doubts about ability to recreate best form after being a bench warmer at best this season and not playing week in week out. However he scored something like 28 goals over his last two seasons with us, and I remember him creating a good few and he worked his socks off. Don't get me wrong he isn't top drawer. He not got the touch and skill of McFadden or McCormack, not got pace of Humphrey, he not got the strength of Sutton or Higdon. But all round as a player he more than contributed for us. I do prefer we bring someone else through but if he did come back I'd only be optimisitic we'd get potentially a better player than first time around in way could argue Hammell and Lasley have been.
  22. Aye I'd certainly want a percentage of future sale if the initial fee is fairly modest. Not convinced it'll reap much return but who saw Charlie Adam moving on for £8m or so!

He already shown enough to warrant a longer deal. I'm all for any contract having some performance targets so that whilst keeping within our budget the lad(or any of our players really) only gets top whack if they earning it. But certainly shouldn't dilly dally and try and pay peanuts. One thing offering him something cheap when the contract is tantamount to an extended trial, but he shown an immediate impact. Sure he will have some quieter games, but another few goals will certainly have others interested if they aren't already and if he rams in double figures by end of season then you may as well look forward to seeing how he gets on at his new club. So in short, decent contract now and if he holds out for more then shit happens.
  24. Though to be fair apart from not being a regular for City he has been played in midfield more than upfront for them or certainly was for a good spell when he was getting a game. Take him back in a heartbeat. Given we play a front 3 of sorts we could get him in there. Esp if Murphy moves on.
