From what I have seen of him, Forbes is the ready made replacement for Hughes. A great wee footballer, good passing range and likes the ball at his feet. The question would be would Hughes coming back in bring him on as a footballer (on the training ground as I doubt they would play together) or actually limit his ability and hold back his progress by playing in front of him?

I said in the other thread I thought the boys put in a very decent shift out there but I just realised we are now in the EXACT same position as we were half way through the Nancy tie. If the boys bottle it in the first 10 minutes it could all be over. Again. Then again, we might be 2-0 up in 25 minutes like last Thursday!! They would still only need a goal though....

Is it just me that thought we looked allright out there?? For a team missing 9 players from last year's squad with only 3 weeks training under our belts I thought we held our own on the 'European Stage'. Far from 'Shite' or 'Embarrasing' like others have said !! I htought O'Brien looked very good and even managed to skin a boy in the middle of the park with his heid!! Slane and Forbes definately have futures - one of Slanes runs was jaw dropping in the first half!! OK we need a forward who can do something out of nothing - Sutton can only knock the ball in from 5 yards! Nothing wrong with that but you need more away from home in Europe. But a decent shift from the boys and I thought they looked the part out there. We had a goal disallowed and hit the bar. We only conceded 1 goal. Can't ask for much more than that.

So two more 'Forwards' then mate? I'd love to see it but if you add in the Goalie we NEED and Centre half we would like that is four more signings. And one more to replace Quinn. I would be happy for Saunders/Page to deal with the RB slot but I still can't see four or five more signings. Hope I'm wrong though!!

The Striker we need has to be able to play in 'Gannon's Hole' in the 4-2-3-1 behind the main Striker - Sutton. So he has to be a bit of a 'Rosscoe' - nippy, can link play, can score and shoot from distance too. But he also has to be able to play up front in a two when he goes for it in a traditional wide 4-4-2. Someone like McCormack could obviously do this. UNLESS, Gannon has in mind Murphy for this 'Hole' role, perhaps Jennings/Slane/O Biren at times too and his Striker is just another big lump of a number nine - like Nade or similar. I don't know what I'd prefer as if Sutty is injured we have NO-ONE to step into the big lone forward role, and like I said we already have a few boys to play in the 'hole'.

Not for 90 minutes of 38 League games, Two cup runs and Europe he isnae. There isn't one other number 9 'Centre Forward' in the entire squad so we definately need one. Next essential signing for me actually.
