  1. My memory of that season is that there wasn't really any 'title chasing' mentality within the support. Rangers were well clear off the field going into the last 9 matches when they proceeded to collapsed completely. If we had beaten Dundee Utd it would have certainly made it interesting but we were always playing catch up with Rangers who had the points in the bag. Even if we had put the pressure on, Rangers last game of the season was against Dundee, who finished bottom of the league that season, at Ibrox. That game petered out 0-0 but you suspect that Rangers would probably have won that one if they really had to.
  2. Name one full back in the league that's not been given the runaround half a dozen times a season? That's what happens if you are full back. You don't get 100% consistency even at the hundred million pound elite level never mind at the 50 grand level.
  3. I'd pretty much agree with that but the problem is Rangers have only failed to score twice this season and have scored 2 or more in 50% of their home matches. We've also conceded twice in every match against them this season so it looks like we are going to have to score at least 2 goals to get a point. Can't see that happening. On the other hand surely we are due a bit of luck against Rangers in particular.
  4. Can you imagine if either team had McDonald and Moult up front? Or if you took McDonald and Moult out our team and replaced them with D'Acol and Bingham. We'd be bottom. There are a couple of players who keep this team competitive and frankly everyone else needs to up their game instead of leaning harder and harder on these guys.
  5. Like....oh....say......Randolph. At the end of the day you need someone to be prepared to pay a worthwhile amount to get him. It might happen, but it might not.
  6. Disagree. We were a shambles at points in the first half against Kilmarnock and if they had scored a second goal I'd wager we would have collapsed and been on the end of another heavy defeat. Even though we got better in the 2nd half we were pinned back for long spells and got away with three points after an injury time penalty miss. Truth was the performance was very typical of the season overall. Aberdeen was a failed shitefest and against St. Johnstone we have come back and then lost the game for the umpteenth time this season. Robinson's results so far mirror exactly McGhee's results against the same opposition - win, loss, loss - so even if you disagree on the subjective point of our performances you can't say we are any better of for it. Out of the three the St. Johnstone match was the best but we still lost the match and such poor goals that it's difficult to say we have really improved. We are still a soft touch I'm afraid.
  7. Ya Bezzer!

    Injuries

Yeah, there is no comparison between McManus and Jules. Having said that Jules has looked more dangerous in the opposition box than Jacob Blyth so maybe he just needs to change positions!
  8. Don't think we'd have much chance of Devlin. I don't even think we'd have much chance of getting someone like Peter Grant at Falkirk.
  9. Lasley - will probably join backroom staff Kennedy - I kinda like Kennedy, he's physical, strong and good in the air, you can't imagine he would get bullied by Boyd, Sammon or even Dougie Imrie unlike some, needs to improve the more cerebral side of his game. However, a whole season out is difficult to come back from. Would need to know more about his condition. [EDIT - OK, just found out more on his condition!] Moore - Should have been let go last time. Ainsworth - Tough one. Has been a shadow of the player he was in the first two seasons and yet he's still one of our better players in terms of end results. Tend to fall on the 'his time has been' side. Pearson - Underwhelming so far on his return needs to put in a good run of form to the end of the season to get a further deal....if he even wants one. McFadden - Playing days seem over and his assistant manager role seems in doubt. Lucas - Get rid. Samson - Get rid. Chalmers - Get rid. Jules - Get rid. McDonald - One of only three players we have who are Top 6 quality and in my opinion BY FAR our most important player. Will almost certainly move on next season and he will be a huge loss.
  10. Frear was by far the best player in the first half but seemed to disappear completely in the 2nd. So for overall performance I'd go for Scott McDonald.
  11. If we'd had Buffon in goals we would still have conceded two. McHugh made at least 3 howlers in central defence today and Zak Jules fell over the ball multiple times. Ferguson cost us a goal with a weak header and the first goal was wretched from the whole back line but it seems like it's all Samson's fault. Pure scapgoat stuff. The ironic cheering is embarassing. Is he the best goalkeeper we've ever had? No. But he's not even the worst in recent times. Would I try and replace him. Yes. Do we have anything better now. No. I'm guessing all his critics are forgetting the absolutely superb save he made down at Rugby Park a couple of weeks ago that ultimately got us our only win in the last seven matches. I don't like Clay and I don't think he should be at the club but at least I can put my hands up and say he had a half decent match today. Now that McGhee's gone its obvious that for some EVERYTHING will be Samson's fault. It's down to Samson to inspire confidence in everyone in front of him? Well what confidence should Samson have in those in front of him? Not much based on recent displays. Even when we won a match or defence was attrocious. It's a team game. Every player has to go out there with confidence in himself and support his team mates not look over their shoulder to the goalkeeper. If we go down we weren't good enough as a team. This blacklist stuff is bullshit.
  12. Do you think we will attract or be able to pay better players in a lower league?
  13. Even the best forwards miss chances and both Moult and McDonald are in double figures for the season. In fact McDonald became our joint highest scorer in the Premier League era today. From midfield back we just don't defend properly. We don't have great players but we should not be giving away the types of goal that we are. What I am looking for is for defenders to defend better and midfielder to contribute better both defensively and offensively. If we go down this season there won't be many teams have been relegated with two strikers scoring 20 goals+ between them..
  14. My prediction going into the split 6. Partick - 39 7. Kilmarnock - 35 8. Dundee - 33 9. Ross County - 32 10. Inverness - 31 11. Motherwell - 30 12. Hamilton - 27
  15. Hammell and Ferguson should have done better at both the goals but they were hung out to dry by their team mates. One of the reasons mistakes are costing us so dearly is no one is covering for their mates. Every individual is a last line of defence and if they make an error we are fucked. That's not how you defend. Ferguson's header was poor but he was the only Motherwell player in the post code. And Liam Craig caused us big problems all day making runs from midfield so why was no one picking up on that? Surely a midfielder has to match the run at the very least. No surprise we have the worst goal difference in the division.
  16. Now lost 6 out of the last 7 and with a trip to Ibrox coming up. We just can't be in this type of form at this stage in the season. We've had a lot of bad luck and a lot of injuries but at the end of the day you have to scrap for every point available and we make far too many mistakes. You might say we were unlucky today but Liam Craig missed a glorious chance for a hat trick and there must have been another 3 or 4 defensive howlers that we got away with (McHugh giving the ball straight the St. Johnstone player in the first half etc, etc.) Need to take 7 points from the next 12 or we are going to be in serious trouble. Inverness are picking up points every week.
  17. Partick are safe already in my opinion. I tipped them for Top 6 at the beginning of the season. I think they have probably the best squad in the 'pack', Alan Archibald has done a tremendous job as manager there and their defensive record is highly impressive. In fact if the points had been wiped out at New Year Partick would be third in the league in 2017. Weirdly Kilmarnock have shown enough this season, despite all the huge player turnover, back room turmoil, and managerial changes to stay up. They tend to pull out a win here or there when not expected. I think they will be OK. Dundee have probably the toughest run up to the split and if I was a Dee I'd be a little nervous. We all saw them demolish us but by all accounts they haven't been playing well and St. Johnstone turned them over pretty easy last week. I think they might be sweating a bit going into the break as I can't see them picking up too many points in the run in. Ross County have been poor this season and they have lost 7 out of the last 10. The weekends match against Inverness will be huge for them. Lose and they could be in really big trouble. Accies will be in the bottom two. They have done very well to stay in the league the past couple of seasons but I think there time is just about up. Not won away from home all season. Despite being bottom Inverness have been in pretty decent form, they have only lost 1 of their last 6 matches. As I said above the Ross County match is going to be huge for both clubs. If they can win it I think they have a decent chance of getting out of the relegation places.
  18. If we live within our means there should be no 'financial oblivion' but it will also mean that our Premiership status will be at risk more often than not and if that is the case it's only a matter of time before we are relegated, if not this season, then probably soon. I've said it before but 30 years of top level football has created a 'big club' mentality among many of our supporters. In reality we have lived a very charmed life but those days are over. Fans expectations need to re-align with where the club is financially.
  19. TRIANGLE OF DOOM Robinson Barraclough Erwin
  20. I've complained about the miserableness surrounding this place but there is no getting around people's initial reaction to this appointment. We just put a guy in place with a terrible record in club football. I think most people have said they are willing to support Robinson regardless if they think he was the right choice or not. He's in a difficult position though and with the spectre of relegation hanging it's not going to be a big surprise if he doesn't get much of a honeymoon period. I'm sure he realised that when he took the job.
