Scottish Cup - Fourth Round Rangers V Motherwell Sat 21 Jan 12:30
Ya Bezzer! replied to Toxteth O'Grady's topic in Club Chat
To be fair 800 isn't bad since we are only getting about 3,000 at home matches. Lots of other factors coming into play - we play them twice in two weeks, it's January, it's not a nice place to go, its on TV, etc. -
Though he got a bit of a raw deal at Dundee Utd. Scored 3 goals in 6 starts for them but never got a run in the team. Anyone with the pace he has will be a danger in this league. I think that's a potentially decent signing for Inverness.

Higginbotham also scored. Saw last week that Brett Long made his pro debut (I believe) at Clyde. Some amount of former goalkeepers, especially U20s keepers, who are playing at senior level for other clubs now. Ross Stewart, Max Currie, Brett Long, Jamie Ewings, Alan Martin.

Last I heard Erwin had a bust up with the (former) manager and walked out. Forum chat right enough. Might be bollocks like it is on here! He's not been picked for a while though so there might be something in it.

I've 'boycotted' Ibrox for a long time, I'm pretty sure the last time I was there was the Scottish Cup replay after the 'Woods Debacle'. The last three times I was there I got hit on the head with a 50p thrown from the top tier that drew blood and was also spat on from above. The I got hit with a bottle outside the ground. Then the last time I had a run in with polis in the stadium who were being complete arseholes, nearly got lifted and was so furious I just walked out. On the other hand it's a cup game and we'll have had the winter break. Hmmmm...... -

Ha! I forgot about the winter shutdown doesn't apply in the lower leagues! Dunfermline v Dundee Utd. Again probably a bigger crowd than any of the Premiership matches (was nearly 6,000 last time) and it's sort of a 'semi derby'. Or perhaps Ayr United v Morton. Ayr's ground is a strangely sentimental throw back to the 1970's and still has terrace so if you want to lean on a crush barrier and watch the game feel free. Don't fancy St. Johnstone v Accies. McDiarmid Park has all the atmosphere of the moon and against Accies it will be worse than usual. -

Ooft! Someone help this guy out! If I was picking a match other than the Motherwell match I'd probably head over to the Dunfermline v St. Mirren match. St. Mirren really need to win it, Dunfermline have hit some good form and there will probably be a decent crowd there, bigger than any of the other Premiership matches. -

The code is "RaN93r5D13d" Not really the code Swede. -
It's been noted that part time refs often earn more than full time players at the top level in Scotland.

Apparently Steve Robinson/Barraclough have been fired today at Oldham after 6 months. Not official yet but supposedly it will be announced soon.
-
Yeah its all competitions and you are right about the East Fife match.

Will always remember his first last game for Motherwell down at the still oval Rugby Park. Crowd sang "(I Want You To Know) Please Don't Go" for most of the match. Tommy Coyne scored early and somehow we survived about 83 minutes of constant battering to come away with a 1-0 win. Remember it like yesterday and it was, gulp, over 20 years ago.

I can independently confirm this. Two seem to have been 1 match suspensions for red cards and he was rested on the last league match of the season against Partick with the Rangers play off looming. So he's missed a maximum of 2 matches injured in four seasons.
-
Josh Magennis was obviously deeply hurt by the comparison because he got a lot better after I said that.

For me Moult doesn't have the attributes that top level clubs are looking for in a front player, pace and physical presence, so I'd be surprised if he did end up at Crystal Palace. Also, if you look at his scoring record he's always been pretty streaky. 8 of his 11 goals this season have come in 3 matches and 1 of the other 3 was a penalty. He's a good player at our level but I think if he moves on it would be to a Championship/League 1 level side I'd suspect.

On a related topic, I see Lee Erwin is top league goal scorer at Oldham.....with 2 goals in 21 matches. History will vindicate me.

Hibs have been getting 15,000 crowds week in, week out. A lot more than they did struggling in the Premiership.

With all due respect (you know what's coming when someone starts with that) that sounds like the sort of guff you'd get from Rangers or Celtic fans. The points column is the only thing that justifies Premiership status, not the park (which is shite) or the stadium (which is also). Accies therefore warrant their inclusion although that may change this season. As I said earlier in the thread Accies deserve a lot of credit for competing at this level, just like, say Dumbarton, who turned Dundee Utd over in the last result, do for competing at Championship level. Also I think the rivalry with Accies has grown again over their three year stay in the top division and gives us something more than just another fixture. Admit it, if we'd scored that last minute equaliser against any time it would have been celebrated, but didn't it mean just that little bit more because it was Accies? -
QotS have gone into meltdown this season. Looked like they could challenge for promotion then lost 7 in a row and are on a no wins in 12 run at the moment. Thomas should get a game as they don't really have any left sided midfield/forwards. Recently brought in Danny Carmichael from Hibs on the right and with Lyle and Dobbie in the middle that looks decent on paper at least.

He's played 18 out of 21 league matches this season and in the previous match McGhee put him on in the 26th minute to replace Cadden. Some horses for courses going on, some trying to give young lads a chance as well but I don't really think he is a bit part player. -

We sent McDonald back up front when we went 1-0 down and that left us short in midfield. McGhee was obviously concerned about that and didn't want to risk effectively going down to 2 in midfield by bringing Ainsworth on too early in the match, especially with a very young inexperienced player in there. By waiting until the last few minutes and then taking a defender off, not something he would have considered doing with 25, 20, even 15 minutes to go, I think tactically McGhee got it completely right......although no one will start a 'McGhee Got It Right' thread I suspect. -

How good do you think we should be? Accies might not be Barcelona but they are a tough team to beat. Only three teams outside the Top Four have beaten them this season and one of those was us at Fir Park. With the exception of Celtic no one has gone to Douglas Park and won by more than a single goal. Accies deserve a lot of credit I think for even being able to compete in this league with 800 season ticket holders. Conditions today were bad, Accies plastic pitch is atrocious and the strong wind, not helped by the stadium being open to the elements made things very hard today for the players. And don't forget we had something of an ad-hoc side out with a few young players in there - one making his first team starting debut. I felt we competed well over the 90 minutes considering we were down to 10 men very early in the match. -
I agree that his pace was on the wain but I think he improved massively as a player in his four (I think) seasons here. In the end though he was more a hard worker than anything else and I don't see what he would bring us anything that Cadden can't do.

McDonald absolutely bust a gut today from defence to up front.

Don't get me wrong, at the time I was shouting for a penalty but I think on reflection the defenders hand was in a natural position and referees very rarely give those these days.
