  1. If you were buying a wide left player from this league I think most would take Greg Stewart over Johnson. Stewart is also in the last year of his contract. Of course both might go.
  2. Raith are out but I think Dunfermline can qualify on 8 points - they have a better GD than East Fife or Raith.
  3. I don't know what we do but in my opinion player wages budget should be set annual and not gone over regardless of income to the club. To me that is the whole point of a budget. I also think we should also set aside some money to pay transfers say £100,000 but which is not used for wages or any other kind of expense. Could be the difference between getting a player with sell on value or not as the free transfer market is a difficult market with lots of competition. If we do get money for Johnson we need to invest that money wisely and not spunk it away in wages.
  4. Have to say I never heard any booing at full time either but I am going a bit cornbeef in the left lug hole!
  5. All the players could improve on tonights performance but I'd give it to Johnson even though he flirted in and out of the game tonight. Got the crucial goal and it was a very good finish on a night when the final touch was lacking most of the time. He also looked the player most likely to unlock E. Stirlingshire in a general sense over the course of the game. Anyway Johnson for me.
  6. First half, after a promising start, was very poor. We just looked sluggish and had no sharpness. No one getting into dangerous areas or making any runs into the box and far too many sideways or backwards passes. First touch was uniformly terrible. Second half we improved a bit and got the pace of the game up and the goals came. Johnson's goal was really good. McDonald passed to Cadden when he should have just hit it in and Clay missed a sitter so if you just add those on to the three we got it should have been 5-0 and there were more chances besides. Overall all, a flat game played in front of a small crowd and flat atmosphere. It's also clear we are set up to counter attack and if we are playing teams who are going to sit in we need to alter the team shape and tactics a bit from our standard shape.
  7. Kennedy uses his physicality much better than Laing. Kennedy needs to improve the non physical side of the game and he's no technician but at least has has a basic to build upon. If I wanted someone to run out from the back with the ball at his feet I'd pick Laing but that's not primarily what defending is about and we need to get the basics right first before we start adding more levels. Laing just doesn't look the part to me and the whole thing about him coming out and saying he was ready to quit the game, well that doesn't make him sound like someone that is mentally strong enough or someone who's heart is in it.
  8. I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever whether McFadden is suited to this role or not. I imagine McGhee will have been much better informed and he's made the decision in favour of McFadden. Therefore this is one of those occasions where I put all my trust in the manager to make the best decision. Good luck in your new role Faddy!
  9. Johnson's goal was either a great goal or a terrible cross, not sure which! And Louis scored a great header with his shoulder there. Looked like a bad plastic surface similar to Douglas Park.
  10. Always felt Vigurs was a player. As it turned out he has an almost identical record to Stephen Pearson last season in terms of goals and appearances.
  11. I think the tactics for Tuesday should be "score a bucket load". Guess Moult's operation goes back a week then.
  12. There are currently 25 teams that can potentially get 9 points or more. 12 of them will qualify. 8 as group leaders, 4 as runners up. 12 of the 25 also need to win their next game to be able to get or potentially get 9 points. Tuesday fixtures for these teams Peterhead v Dundee -----------would expect Dundee to win this meaning Peterhead couldn't get 9 points Stirling v Elgin -------------------difficult to call Stirling better form and at home Brechin v St. Johnstone--------would expect St. Johnstone to win this meaning Brechin couldn't get 9 points Queens Park v Airdrieonians -----difficult to call Queens Park better form and at home Motherwell v East Stirlingshire------would expect Motherwell to win this Ayr Utd v Livingston---------------------difficult to call, Ayr Utd with home advantage Albion Rovers v Clyde-----------------difficult to call, Albion Rovers with home advantage Berwick Rangers v Kilmarnock-------would expect Kilmarnock to win Edinburgh City v Hamilton--------------would expect Hamilton to win Queen of the South and St. Mirren have no fixtures on Tuesday. So I'd expect Peterhead and Brechin to be knocked out after midweek fixtures but that doesn't narrow it down much. Look further ahead.. Group A - Would expect Dundee and East Fife to qualify on more than 9 points Group B - If St. Johnstone beat Brechin and Stirling don't take full points at home to Elgin, the runner up in this group probably won't qualify. Even if Stirling do win they would have to also win at St. Johnstone. Group C - Very difficult to call with three teams all in with a real shout and lots of variations possible. Group D - Raith Rovers are looking good to win this one. Ross County have a potentially trick tie away to Alloa. If Alloa win 2nd place is likely to finish on 9. If Ross County win they are likely to finish on 10. Group E - Queen of the South and Partick should both get 9 points plus. Group F - Between us and Stranraer for 2nd and we can both get 9 points. Potentially Stranraer can win the group but would need a couple of spectacular results to do that. Likely comes down to last fixture between Stranraer v Motherwell with winner finishing 2nd on 9 points max. Group G - St.Mirren should win this group (last fixture is at home to Edinburgh City). Ayr have to win away at Livingston to get 9. Livingston have to beat Ayr at Home and Hamilton away. Likely comes down to Hamilton at home to Livingston with Hamilton having to win to get 9 points. Group H - Morton should beat Berwick at home to get 11 points and win the group. Likely Kilmarnock finish 2nd on 9 points. Runners up from Group A and Group E look good to go through. Runners up from Group B probably not going to qualify. The leaves 2 spots between C, D, F, G, H. If Ross County can win away to Alloa they will probably finish on 10 points meaning, there is one runner up position left between C, F, G, H. C is very difficult to call. Likely Hamilton, Motherwell and Kilmarnock all finish on 9 points.
  13. Perhaps but what sort of bar has Laing set? Not a very high one I'd say. Given that we are now over budget then I'd say moving Laing on would be a priority before the transfer window shuts. Between Heneghan, Kennedy and Ferguson we have enough options there between the three of them.
  14. Was out performed massively by an unknown Northern Irish teenager with no first team experience at all in his entire career. Facts are he's been give a decent whack at it and he's behind every other centre back available for selection, with maybe the exception of Ferguson. He's a failed signing and it would be best if he went back down south and tried to resurrect his career.
  15. Remember, he is worth 1.6 million!
