The Next Manager, Who Would You Want And Who Could We Get
Ya Bezzer! replied to stuwell's topic in Club Chat
Larsson, great player that he was, is something of a charisma vacuum. -
Scored one and should have had an assist. Let's try and accentuate the positive the day after we got our first home win since August and actually saw a decent level of performance.
-
Vigurs would be playing at a much higher level if he was more of an athlete and, dare I say, it had a better work ethic. But in terms of touch, he's got brilliance in his locker.

Inverness are undefeated at home this season which is pretty impressive by the time you get to November, however looking at the results they've struggled mostly at home against lesser teams. Ross County and Dundee were the teams to get points at Inverness, when better teams have lost. Perhaps they struggle against teams that sit in. They certainly don't score a lot of goals, they've not scored more than 2 goals in a match all season and haven't scored more than 1 in the last four games. If we can keep it tight at the back like we did against United, I'm hopeful we could get something up there.

Agree. Never felt that way at the match and when I got home and put the radio on and had a look at the football forums I was surprised. Dundee Utd dominated spells of play but I don't think they created many more real chances than we did. Even looking at the BBC highlights there were chances we had that weren't shown, Vigurs in the first half for example. I actually really enjoyed the match and even if we had lost I'd have been full of praise. The attitude and work rate of the players was a million miles away from where it had been from the first couple of minutes to the last.

I thought 1 - 11 the team performed really well tonight. Everyone gave 100% effort, determination and concentration. I thought Kerr, Ramsden and Reid did particularly well and I'm going to give it to Reid.

I'd take Davies over some of the people that have been mentioned. We were his first job and he's a lot more experienced now. Probably a better manager. And he won't have squillions of quid to spend this time, so that's neither here nor there. Wouldn't be my first choice but not a "oh no what have you done" one either. -
What a change. Best we've played this season by miles. Every player working their socks off, why couldn't we do that until now? Don't think too many people will be going on about fitness after that performance. Interesting to note we played the 4-2-3-1 formation and I thought it worked well. We looked much more secure, we got bodies back to defend when we needed but we also carried a threat. Ramsden has had a stinking season but thought he did well in an unfamiliar role and I thought Craig Reid was great, putting his foot in where others would have shirked it. Kerr also did well. I could go through the whole team really but the difference tonight was we worked for it. That's all you need, just hard work and effort and all that bad luck suddenly transforms. United had chances and had us pinned back on occasions but I think we definitely deserved that on work rate alone. Great sleeves rolled up performance.

They have no intentions in the first place. They get their name in the paper linked with a job that's why they do it and then make out like they withdrew from the process. -

Ally McCoist is on the McBookie's list at 33/1 which completely invalidates the credibility of the whole thing. -

When Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is on MotD he looks completely mindless and all the words coming out his mouth are being coached to him through his ear piece. Might be a bit unfair but doesn't exactly inspire confidence unless it's a managerial genius that's remote controlling him. His record in coaching/management doesn't really stand out either. -
A friend of mine asked me for some betting advice about tonights match and I told him we had no chance and to put all his money on Dundee Utd. That's means we are good for at least a point tonight! The come back starts here.

There is no need to rush this decision. We have Dundee Utd, then it's an international break, then we are away to Inverness. We should be aiming to have someone in before the Dundee Utd cup tie but that's 3 weeks away. We've got 2 - 3 weeks to do our homework and make the right decision. It could be the survival of the club depends on it. -

I didn't like Peter Grant as a player but I didn't like Terry Butcher as a player either, or Kenny Black for that matter. It would be pretty pathetic if he was the best candidate and he wasn't given the job because of perceived bigotries in the support. And I'm not saying for a minute that he is the best candidate because I don't know who all the candidates are but you just sense there is still this sectarian dinosaur element in our support who wouldn't accept him from the get go despite him having quite a lot of experience down south - West Ham, Norwich, WBA, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest - and on the face of it being a decent candidate. We are a dead man walking right now, we can't afford to rule out any one for anything other than football reasons. -

This is wild and crazy but maybe the new manager, who ever he is, will play Josh Law at right back. -

Hoping that's just a coincidence. -
Dundee Utd basically fielded a shadow team on Saturday and still won 3-0. Obviously they were keeping back some of their first pick players for this match. However they have lost their last two away fixtures (Inverness and Kilmarnock) without scoring a goal and lost 6-1 at Celtic Park so they have been up and down away from home. Hopefully the team will have had a good hard think about what's happened this week and be determined to make amends.

When people use this phrase "punch above our weight" they make it sound like the SPL/SPFL was chock full of great teams that we miraculously out performed somehow. I'd defy anyone to say we didn't have at Top 4 playing staff, at the very least, through all those high finishes.

Billy McKinlay has literally never lost a match as manager! 2 matches, 1 win, 1 draw. -

Does no one else have concerns about Coyle? His career seems to have been on a downward trajectory for a while. -

Decent shout. Quite experienced both as a player and coach, has had some success and pulled a few strugglers up by the boot straps. The problem though is does he want to manage a team in Scotland with no money? -
That season we had two good goalscorers in the side, Higdon and Murphy. There's not much point creating chances if there is no one to score them. Anyway Ojamaa can create chances from elsewhere on the park, I wasn't advocating dropping him, just moving him so we have more firepower in the forward positions.

Billy McKinlay doesn't have a lot of experience as a manager. Think we might be looking for someone a bit more seasoned considering our predicament. The others wouldn't be interested and I wouldn't want Mackay anyway. Locke - no. di Canio - NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. -

Not really much around Scotland at the moment. For me the only real shout would be Ian Murray but I don't think he'd be the right fit. He's worked wonders at Dumbarton but I'd like to see someone who has a stronger youth background and Murray's success, as far as I can see, has been based on gathering together a team of old pros. I'm sure CV's are being faxed in as we speak so I'd be happy just to sit back and see what comes in for the time being. I'm not overly keen on anyone on the Scottish scene so let's just see who's interest down south or further afield.
