  1. Probably a Glypton Grasshopper.
  2. I actually meant to cancel out the -1 and made an arse of it. Sorry.
  3. I have some sympathy for Vigurs last night. Once Law faded out of the game, Sutton was completely isolated. We had nothing going down the right even before Ainsworth was taken off, never mind when Kerr came on, and our central midfield was disfunctional. That meant Vigurs was getting a lot of the out ball with very few options in front of him. He's the player in the squad with the greatest vision in my opinion but even so he can't conjure something out of nothing. You need something up front to play into, someone on the other side to switch the play to, someone to make a sideways pass to. There was no one there driving into those positions for Vigurs to exploit.
  4. I agree mostly with you but the difference is LLanelli were absolutely dismal, the worst team I've ever seen. Stjarnan might not be a great team but they have some good players and are a danger on the break. If Llanelli were a very minor junior league team, Stjarnan are a Dumbarton or a QoS. Going there will be no easy task and the plastic pitch gives them a further advantage. Of course we can win the tie but I wouldn't exactly say I was bullish about it.
  5. Maybe there is something in this. But last night I felt we just didn't have the gears to go through. The momentum of the game swung on the first penalty. At 2-0 down Stjarnan were getting a roasting, suddenly, partly because of a lucky deflection, they are back in the game and the energy of the match changes. When it did change we didn't have the level of game fitness to turn it round again.
  6. Well maybe you think losing 20% of our goals is not a big deal but I do and as I said those players also contributed 9 assists meaning they were involved in closer to 30% of our goals. Any team that loses 20 or 30% of their goals is in trouble, especially a team like ours who aren't exactly rock solid at the back. Both McFadden and Anier need to be replaced ASAP.
  7. Maybe if they had walked to the stadium they would have been a bit fitter! Or maybe they would have been exhausted even earlier....
  8. Players can only keep themselves at a certain level of fitness during the close season. Otherwise we wouldn't need a pre-season. What we lacked was game fitness. Game fitness is a lot different from running round the Strathy or going on the bike in the gym. You need games to have game fitness and we had one proper friendly before this match and we strolled around and hardly got out of a canter. The number of friendly games and the attitude in those games is down to the manager.
  9. They only scored 13 league goals out of 64, about 20% of our entire league goals tally last season or 1 in 3 of our goals outside of John Sutton. And that's excluding assists from both players - 9 in total. You are on a good run of baffling comments Weeyin.
  10. We played Fulham last week and their first match isn't until the 9th of August. They will have a full month of pre-season before they kick off. Contrast with us.
  11. This is the lead up to the second penalty. Two banks of four eh? No centre backs, three midfields within a yard of each other, and wide open spaces around all but one of the Stjarnan players.
  12. He's playing just outside the 18 yard box line. I'm not saying he has to be out on the touchline but he has to be in the channel otherwise they have a free reign down the entire side of the pitch, that is what happened tonight.

    Stjarnan

Carswell was our best player over the 90 minutes. Josh Law did well to get 2 goals in the first half but wasn't in evidence much in the second half.
  14. Both our full backs get completely exposed. Hammell recently has tended to play tucked in, he should be further out to cover the right sided mifielder. He's played left back his entire career so why he's started doing that I don't know, if it's an instruction or his choice. I thought he was decent enough in the tackle and on the ball but there is so much space down the left it was easy for Stjarnan to hurt us from that position.
  15. Ramsden won just about every header against a bigger man. I thought he was very good in the first half but I didn't get a good view of what he was doing in the box in the in the second half when Stjarnan created a lot more chances so I won't comment on that.
  16. You are right. Losing a 2 goal lead to a semi professional team from Iceland with a totally rotten second half performance is magic and deserves praise. Most of the guys complaining about tonights performance paid £25 to watch it by the way.
  17. To be fair to Vigurs when he got the ball there was nothing on for him so he didn't really have any options. I agree about Carswell who was our best midfielder but I thought Sutton was poor due to being isolated for most of the match.
  18. The first one was a deflected cross. Hit off Reid and then Lasley's arm. A bit unlucky but Lasley seemed to move his arm towards the ball so it was a penalty as far as I'm concerned. Second one I didn't get a good view of because of the sun. They hit the post there was a stramash in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. I didn't see anything myself that made it a penalty but I was down the other end and had the sun in my eyes so I can't say it wasn't a penalty either.
  19. Well that was a little bit deflating. We started really well, it was 2-0 going on 4 or 5 and it looked like it was going to be an easy night. Maybe that was the problem. What ever it was we just took our foot off the gas and let them back into the game. I don't know if it was fitness or just unprofessionalism but even then Stjarnan didn't look much of a threat until a deflected cross hit Lasley arm and they got the penalty. At 2-1 we shat it. There is no other way of saying it. We shat it. Second half we had nothing going on at all, the players were dead on their feet and Stjarnan created all the best chances and they constantly caught us on the break, they had already missed an absolute sitter, had a long ranger wizz narrowly by and hit the post before they got the penalty. It was quite a hot evening and that probably didn't help us but to only have half an hour of legs is not really good enough, although probably not that surprising having seen the Fulham where we hardly got into a canter. It's going to be tricky to get through this tie now with those two away goals against us but it's not impossible. We will have to improve a lot though if we do. I'll end on one positive note, we have a pretty good record away to Scandinavian teams - Bredablik, Aalesund, HB, Mypa, we won at all those grounds.
  20. 4-2-3-1 turns into 4-3-3 because the two wingers bomb forward and the other attacking midfielder plays off and behiind the centre forward, so it could be a 4-3-3 but perhaps it's more like a 4-2-1-3. It can just as easily become a 4-2-4 or a 4-4-2 depending on the individual actions of individual players. Really the only formation that really matters is the one of you start with, the base formation that everything else stems from.
  21. I noticed Flamurtari are 21/1 to win away to Ploesti tonight!
  22. On Bet365 you can watch... Buducnost Podgorica v Omonia Nicosia CSKA Sofia v Zumbru Chisinau HNK Rijeka v Ferencvaros FK Cukaricki v SV Grodig but no Motherwell I'm afraid.
  23. Got my season ticket yesterday. Another season for this increasingly veteran supporter!
  24. I don't have a problem with Pearson but I think a midfielder is not a priority position for bringing in someone. We need a forward and a central defender.
  25. Don't think inflation is at 15%!
