  1. Thought we probably deserved the three points even though most of the 2nd half we were fairly deep. Goal we lost was extremely sloppy. Looked to me like Davor just wasn't paying attention, we lose the ball and then from that passage of play we lose a goal. It was especially annoying as St Mirren hadn't really look very good up to that point and we give a goal away that shouldn't have happened and a big confidence boost to the opposition. Fortunately we got the penalty fairly quickly after that. Didn't see it myself but I was told it was a pull. Don't think I've felt as confident with Lennon Miller stepping up to take a penalty since the days of Tommy Coyne. Predictably the keeper was no where near it. After that I felt we were the better team for the rest of the first half. Second started with a bit of a disaster, not really switched on, give away the penalty and a red card. Don't think there is much argument over the decision. Think Ox got a touch to it to get it off the post. That was huge for us as it would have been a very different game if it'd been 2-2 and a man down. Rest of the match St Mirren were on the front foot but we defended well enough and had the best chance of the match with the St Mirren keeper making what looked from the other end of the ground as an amazing save. Though Liam Gordon was excellent today. Wilson looks like an established first team player and Lennon Miller was fantastic and had a couple of good chances to get a hat trick today which would have been a moment. Unfortunate that Ebiye got a start today but then had to come off so early due to the red card.
  2. I must have dreamed he got sent off last week! 🤣 EDIT - OK, he came off injured against Kilmarnock so that must have transformed into a suspension in my head.
  3. I think Olusanya will be suspended so that's good cos I've always been impressed by him when I've seen St. Mirren and he's on a good run of form. Of course we'll be up against three former strikers rather than just one next time......
  4. I don't normally pay any attention to newspapers, and haven't for a long time, but I saw a Daily Record this morning and our win last night wasn't even mentioned until 8 pages in from the back page.
  5. In a frenetic match Lennon Miller was the guy show showed calm, poise and class. It was fitting that hit the penalty with all the attributes he'd shown for the previous 92 minutes.
  6. A game where winning was more important than a good performance. The performance wasn't bad as such but It was a very tight, scrappy match, especially first half. Was crying out for a bit more composure, only Lennon Miller seemed to be able to take a touch and control the ball. Wasn't many chances for either team but I thought Dundee Utd, maybe just edged it in overall play but there wasn't much between the teams. Scored at a great time and looked like a fantastic finish. No chance for the keeper. Second half we started the better team and had a period of pressure and most of the chances but nothing clear cut. About 70 minutes or so you could see us starting to time waste, falling deeper and Dundee Utd started looking likely to equalise. Great save by Ox kept us ahead but it was almost inevitable that Moult would score and it was a great finish to be fair. It's one of those weird things in football that it was almost a relief when Utd scored cos you always felt we'd play further up the pitch at 1-1 than we did at 1-0. Last period of the game was fairly end to end and we always looked a threat at that stage of the match. The guys that came off the bench did well, though Kaleta was good going forward in the latter stages. And we should all know that Ebiye coming off the bench gives you something up top. I'm not 100% on Davor but I thought he had a decent match tonight. On Robinson up top, we are playing a system where we have been competitive in every game, Top 6 in the league and are in the semi final of the League Cup. There's the big picture for those that don't see it.
  7. First of all I hope you enjoyed his goal tonight. Secondly he literally has the best pass completion stats of any one in the squad. Also best stats on dribbling. Thirdly do I really need to explain the game to you? You know as well as I do that just holding the ball up for a couple of seconds can have a big effect on a match. Or just running into or standing in an area, Or putting your foot on the ball and bringing it under control. Or drawing a foul. or an almost infinite number of other actions.
  8. Robinson does a lot of stuff that doesn't get noticed and doesn't show up in stats. I'd like to see Ebiye feature as a starter but we need to find a system and that means experimentation which loads of people on here would probably complain about if it didn't work out like in the Ross County match.
  9. We have 4,000 - 4,500 fans and probably fewer are going to go to a match not on the season ticket. Even back in the day when it was a tenner to get in, you could just turn up at a turnstile and the quality of the football was infinitely better, we were rarely getting over 5,000 home supporters. There was also a genuine belief we could actually win a cup which I don't think really exists any more. It's not piss poor, it's just the size of our support.
  10. It's actually nice unlike every other piece of kit this season!
  11. We've not qualified at U21 level since 1996.
  12. I don't think it's a old firm bias but it is infuriating. Maguire used to play over Turnbull in the U21s set up. They just don't have a fucking clue.
  13. From watching the highlights, could Oxborough done better at the goal? Wouldn't put it in the blunder category but it seem to go under him. This was some 'glanced' arithmetic so I hope I got it right but I make it 7 out of 14 goals scored by defenders so far this season.
  14. Definitely a good finisher. Had a decent record in Norway so I always thought he could get goals here. I like 2 up front but the issue is playing a formation where you get some attacking width cos otherwise the two forwards just end up being totally isolated like they were the last time we played two up front against Ross County.
  15. I think we can be pretty certain he's not the White Pele. Sounded like a deserved victory. 7 points from 4 matches is a good tally going into the break, 9 matches this season and only a Butland save from being undefeated. Decent start to the season considering some of the discussion.
  16. Wasn't that impressed by Vale first time. Certainly not enough to bring him back. Tavares hasn't cut it at a dismal Hibs side. I suppose you can offer the Theo Bair' defence on that one. For me not that exciting a transfer window but winning matches is more important than all the side show stuff.
  17. First of all I saw people that were supposed to be boycotting in other sections of the stand so I'm guessing not all are as united on the boycott as it would appear. Secondly the atmosphere was better on Saturday. More natural, less choreographed, singing from all areas/stands and no constant drum or that intolerable with the megaphone. Thirdly I've not gone to away games for a couple of years but before that I used to go to virtually every away game and the behaviour of a section of our fans was utterly embarrasing and very worthy of police involvement. I doubt it's changed much. Fourthly, I have no contacts inside Fir Park, but I've been told by others the club has generally been fairly supportive of our ultras (in whatever iteration) and yet every time the club has asked them not to cross lines, pyro for instance, they have repaid the club with intransigence and defiance over the issues. Fifthly, groups trying to use their fan power as leverage against the club over the kind of issues that they have is the kind of self absorbed behaviour that almost all of these groups end up displaying. It's arrogant and self regarding. When supporters groups put their own interests before the clubs, especially on issues that can harm the club reputationally, legally or financially, then those fans have overstepped the mark. It's clear these types of groups always put their own interests ahead of the clubs. while masquerading as diehard fans. I'm pretty confident many of these guys will never buy an adult ticket.
  18. Just from watching the highlights there......Tom Sparrow could have sat on his heels and we don't get that crucial third goal. I think he's done really well to follow up that mistake from Salazar cos a lot of players wouldn't have bothered and nothing comes out of it. That's a good example of the kind of things that you need to do in a game to get three points. Hopefully we can show that commitment more often.
  19. Hey, an actual good performance! First 60 minutes we totally dominated the match and then typically the worst thing we did in the match was double our lead. After that we fall back, invite Hearts on to us, lose our shape and Hearts get back in it and it's not looking good. Fortunately Hearts are pitiful in defence and gift wrap one for us to calm the nerves. Good energy, good tempo from us today, lots of pressing that Hearts couldn't cope with, and a lot of players who have been underwhelming up till now had great games - O'Donnell, Zdravkovski, Halliday. Watt and Maswanhise have added a lot since they were signed. We could still be doing with more numbers getting into the box at times but we have an attacking out ball now. Also Wilson has settled in and looks like a first team player and I thought Robinson was really good today.
  20. Last home game they were singing 'Fuck the Police' when at that very moment the police were getting bricked and assaulted protecting the most vulnerable people in society from fascists and racists. Embarrassing and genuinely shameful. A bunch of daft wee boys who are entitled up to their ears and never had any adversity in their lives. The problem with these Ultra groups is their unbelievable sense of self importance when they represent a small minority of the support. For most of the time I've supported Motherwell that end section was empty and it didn't make a jot of difference to me. Support the club sure, no one has a problem with that, but if you break the law by your own volition at least be big boys about it instead of whiny kids.
  21. He's brought in an actual winger and Tony Watt can play wide. Maybe we'll go 4-3-3 in certain matches. It gives us more options, both defensively (makes 4 at the back more of an option if you aren't relying on full backs for attacking width) and offensively, if we bring in forwards that can play wide. One of the big problems this season is the lack of width, and it may also solve the creativity in the final third.
  22. Maswanhise did well when he came on but over the 120 minutes it had to be Lennon Miller.
  23. Ok the quality of the football hasn't been great but that's three clean sheets at home and we have honestly not been troubled at all in any of those matches except when Kilmarnock threw the kitchen sink at it in the last couple of minutes of extra time. I think the current squad has potential if Kettlewell abandons some of his pre existing ideas about how we set up. And of course when the injury situation improves.
  24. Watt has already played three times for Dundee United in the competition so I'd imagine that means he's cup tied.
