It looks good but we can't wear it against Hearts or Aberdeen, surely! You take them out of the equation and we only really need an away strip against Dundee United.

St Johnstone Match Thread - The Dawning Of A New Era!
Ya Bezzer! replied to steelboy's topic in Club Chat
I went 2-1 to Motherwell for my predictor score but I think it will be a tough match. Any 'Well fan with a memory knows McDiarmid Park isn't exactly a happy hunting ground for Motherwell and they have had some decent pre-season results and most of their squad are tough and experienced players have been in the SPL before. Obviously a win is better but coming away with a draw would be no disaster. -
Malpas brought in players and for the most part they were all shite. Signing up players doesn't make you a good manager. As for the signing policy I'm a bit puzzled because McGhee was obviously aiming at a higher standard of player to bring in. He failed to do so but if he HAD brought in players from Shrewsbury, Northampton, Basingstoke etc, he would probably have been heavily cricitised for doing so. For some reason Gannon can do this and be praised when others would be getting pelters, probably because the squad was so denuded of folks will take anything to bring the numbers up. Remember McGhee had to bring in players that were better than the squad we already had, Gannon is having to bring players into a squad that has very little competition from established first teamers. It's a different thing altogether.

He's lost 4 out of 6, once each to Flamurtari and Llanelli AFC, not even played a league game and he's a legend? He does talk a good game but talking is the easy bit. No one knows what is going to happen, let's wait and see before we afford him legend status!
-
I reckon Hateley is the new right back.
-
I'll just use this thread to ask a question. Was a programme produced for the Home leg against Llanelli? If so I don't have it!

Slaney's SPL debut was on the 16th May 2009 v Hamilton, came on in the 86th minute as a substitute. And they are playing up the 'rags to riches' angle a bit. Anderston might not be 'posh' but its not that bad either, in fact its fairly benign.

To be fair Win Ratio is not really a fair way to judge a manager because it doesn't take into consideration the difference between draws and loses (except that they aren't wins of course!). For instance you could have manager A on P30 W10 D10 L10 and manager B on P30 W10 D0 L20 and it would be the same ratio for both.

Win Ratio (League only) McGhee (41%) P74 W31 D15 L30. First Match: 4/8/07 St.Mirren W 1-0; Last Match: 23/5/09 Kilmarnock L 1-2 Malpas (26%) P38 W10 D8 L20. First Match: 30/07/06 Rangers L 1-2; Last Match 19/05/07 Dundee Utd D 0-0 Butcher (31%) P154 W47 D36 L71. Last Match: 16/09/01 Rangers L 0-3. Kampman (21%) P19 W4 D5 L10. First Match: 07/03/98 Dunfermline L 1-2. Last Match: 03/10/98 Celtic L 1-2. Griffin (100%) P1 W1 D0 L0. First Match: 25/02/98 St.Johnstone W 2-1. Last Match: 25/02/98 St.Johnstone W 2-1. Watson (0%) P1 W0 D0 L1. First Match: 21/02/98 Hearts L 2-4. Last Match: 21/02/98 Hearts L 2-4. McLeish (29%) P132 W38 D40 L54. First Match: 13/08/94 Rangers L 1-2. Last Match: 07/02/98 Dundee United L 0-1. McLean (31%) P403 W123 D111 L169. And I made a mistake on McGhee's should be 41% which puts him above Butcher.

I do think some people are getting a bit carried away. The last time we had a team of youngster (arguably a better crop than now) we played some great football, were exciting to watch....and finished bottom and stayed up on a technicality. At the end of the day, you don't get points for losing and we've lost four out of six. If we win one third of our games next season we'll probably stay up but it won't have been a season to cherish forever. Overall, despite some set backs, I've been encouraged with what Gannon has got out of what looked like a limited squad but I still think some of the support need to scale back their aspirations for the coming season. It's going to be a difficult one, especially if we don't get points on the board early.

Seriously, can't believe its just me, Yir Elder and a mystery other than knows what we are talking about! Mark Reynolds was the key player last night and he has 3 votes.
-
Referee's are always going to make mistakes, they are only human after all, but they HAVE to get the major decisions that effect the score line of the tie correct. It's obvious the referee and the linesmen didn't manage that tonight and not only did he get one decision wrong that effected the score of the match, he got several wrong. I'm not going to sit here and say that if it wasn't for tonights referee we'd be in the next round of the Europe League, but we certainly wouldn't have lost the home leg and we might even have won it. That ref was fucking garbage.
-
Reynolds coming off turned the tie in favour of Steaua. Until then Steaua hadn't really had a sniff and our midfield was breaking everything down. Sutton did really well and Forbes looks like a great new talent but when things went against us you could see his confidence was rattled and his game suffered. MotM: Mark Reynolds.

We deserved to win tonight so to lose 1-3 is hard to take. Overall a pretty good performance just a shame that our heads went down a bit after some unlucky breaks in the second half. And seriously, you think Scottish referees are bad and then you see that. How the third goal was allowed I'll never know. Anyway we gave a decent account of ourselves against a pretty good team and gave them a wee bit of a scare for a while. Bring on the season proper. RUDDY - 6 - Had nothing to do for most of the match and yet had to pick the ball out the net three times. HUTCHINSON - 6 - A bit sloppy in possession but defended reasonable well and has potential. CRAIGAN - 7 - Kept the Romanian strikers quiet for the most part until the general collapse. HAMMELL - 6 - Think it was him that gave away the penalty although I didn't get a good view. Otherwise a good shift from Hammell. REYNOLDS - 8 - Though he did really well in the midfield holding position and we suffered he was substituted. COKE - 7 - Big, strong, unspectacular but made his presence in the midfield known. FORBES - 7 - Another great performance from Forbes, excellent goal but faded badly towards the end when you could see his confidence had been badly effected by the Romanian goals. O'BRIEN - 6 - Same old story, works hard, pace causes problems but he just doesn't have the final touch. SLANE - 6 - Like some of the other young players tonight was just a little too much for him, decent performance though overall, if not quite up to his previous displays. MURPHY - 6 - Nothing really fell for him tonight but worked hard and gave the Steaua defence something to worry about. SUTTON - 7 - Good display from Sutton in what is a tough role to play, won many a header and flick on. HUMPHREY - 2 - Still waiting for him to show something JENNINGS - 2 - Not much impact, the tide had turned by the time he came on. McHUGH - 4 - Only seen glimpses but tested the Steaua keeper and doesn't look uncomfortable at this level.

Joeboy is correct.
-
If it works even I'll have to start believing! Or it could just be a coincidence.
-
Yeah when I worked at the bank you could accept a faxed signature for six figure sums of money.
-
Assuming the game doesn't go to extra time you will want to spend roughly about 100 minutes in Airdrie. Head into Glasgow, lots to do and see and you can get a train to Drumgelloch near the stadium from Queen Street Station, only takes about half an hour.
-
I don't hold out much hope of winning the tie overall but if we could win the match tomorrow it would surely rank as one of our greatest results. 'MON THE WELL!
-
I'm trying to think and can't remember any examples not already mentioned. Mostly its memories of other teams doing it to us! I remember one especially bad day being 2-0 up and cruising against a poor Partick Thistle side....
-
I thought Steaua were superb in the first leg but will they play that well again? Do they travel well? Will they be thinking 'this tie is won' and not be switched on? I'm asking all these question in order to justify buying an expensive ticket when I've got fuck all money in my pocket!
-
I remember when I first started coming to games I stood next to the fence only for a bottle come hurling from the opposition side and smash on the fence sending shards of glass everywhere. After that I decided to stand behind the goals!
-
I think big Softy scored more goals for the Old Firm than he did for us!
-
So how come you've seen him once, tonight, and have judged him to be "quality"?
-
Well I didn't need to think very hard about this.
