I think this was probably the worst result in the clubs history. The fact that it was a UEFA cup match raises its importance over domestic matches like Alloa and Queens Park games. Also, people are saying things like, they are "the 2nd best team in Wales" but really, no offense to Llanelli fans, but that Llanelli team would be lucky to survive in the Scottish 2nd Division and probably isn't even 3rd Division quality. They were the worst team we've ever played in a competitive match in my life time and we still lost. I was worried before hand, I thought Llanelli would be of a decent standard, not SPL, but decent but when I saw them warming up you could see just how bad their basic touch and ability was. I was sure, even with the depleted squad we could win 3-0 or 4-0 without too much effort. We SHOULD have done but obviously that didn't happen. It was shameful and then and now I still wouldn't care less if every player that played that night had his contracted ripped up and was shown the door. It was that bad.

OK, we need to replace Clarkson but Sutton is our ONLY chance of getting through his tie which is not to say he played well last night incidentally. Here's the league goal tallies from last season for the side we put out last night Fraser - 0 Saunders - 0 Craigan - 0 Reynolds - 0 Hammell - 0 Murphy - 2 McGarry - 0 Lasley - 0 Forbes - 0 O'Brien - 1 Sutton - 10 Slane - 0 McHugh - 0 If you exclude Sutton from that you have 3 goals from 212 league appearances. If you include the 6 cup games last season its even worse. Outside Sutton (2 goals) only Murphy scored adding 1. It's an absolutely shocking statistic.

Humble Pie? He was right. Llanelli were shite. They were more shite than you could possibly imagine. They were the worst team I can ever remember Motherwell playing in a competitive fixture. The problem is we were even worse.
-
Lets not bring McGhee into this. I could pick ten pals and beat that team. They were just fucking shocking and didn't care a hoot. Well, I don't have a job right now and I shelled out £30 on that while the players took a huff about having to come back early from their fucking holidays. As for the youngers some of them looked like they'd never seen a football before. Some of them couldn't even kick a ball cleanly. Five year old kids can kick balls cleanly but footballers on pro contracts can't. Steven Saunders 4th appearance tonight and in all 4 we've failed to score a goal and lost all of them....

If Paul Slane doesn't get 100% in this poll some people need their head read.
-
I agree with most of this except its far too early to be comparing Slane with McFadden! Also Sutton CAN do a job for us if he has a partner to play off, as a lone striker he's next to useless but you can't just write off the fact that his tally was in double figures last season, especially when we have no other player capable of scoring a goal in the squad. I think Gannon made a big mistake not using Fitzpatrick and Smith. Smith would have at least been direct and pacey, Fitzpatrick would have at least battled hard. But you can't really blame him much since he doesn't know the players well but hopefully they'll get a chance next time.

Shameful, deplorable and inexcusable. I expected Llanelli to be equivalent to a good 2nd Division side. They weren't even equivalent to a run of the mill Junior side. That was the worst Motherwell performance I've ever seen against the worst opposition I've ever seen and probably the worst result in the clubs history. It's also an utter embarrassment for the club and for the country. You could literally have picked a team out the crowd tonight that would have competed against Llanelli and that a squad of professional footballers, and I don't care what age or level of experience they have, a squad of professional footballers couldn't beat a side with an 18 stone central midfielder. Absolutely shocking. Lets go through the side shall we? Fraser - 5 - had nothing to do against a pub team and STILL couldn't keep a clean sheet. You could literally, without joking, have put a dummy in goals for Motherwell tonight and it wouldn't have effected the score. Saunders - 4 - I know he's young and inexperience but seriously, I've seen a couple of times now and he is NEVER a SPL level player. He's slow, doesn't tackle, has no strength, can't pass, can't cross under no or little pressure etc etc. How has this guy made through your youth set up when he can't even do the basics? Craigan - 5 - Ropey at times but had very little defending to do. Reynolds - 6 - Again had nothing to do. Hammell - 5 - Didn't get forward, to be fair probably suffered more than most from the fitness element of tonight since it was hard to make the runs but still not good enough tonight. O'Brien - 4 - An attacking midfielder that can't score or create, a winger that can't cross, what exactly does he do other than run around like a kid on smarties. Apparently this is good enough for some Motherwell fans but we are still waiting for this guy to show anything other than endevour and thats not good enough. Forbes - 5 - Far from the worst offender but hardly inspiring. Lasley - 4 - Has been a great club servant but lets be honest here his last good performance was way back in 2008. He needs to get back to form quickly or else. As one of the most experienced and better players we had available tonight I feel really let down by him tonight. McGarry - 4 - I was willing to give him a chance but after tonight he's had his chips. Find a new club McGarry. Murphy - 4 - Another young player but you can't call him inexperienced anymore because he must have played close to 50 matches now for Motherwell and hand on heart how many of them could you honestly say he was anything other than mediocre? Sutton - 5 - He was an empty shirt tonight but at least he's proved he can score goals when given the opportunity. He's a finisher and nothing more. We know that so you can't really blame him to much if the other 10 players have no creativity whatsoever. Slane - 7 - Only bright spot tonight was this kid. If he doesn't start in the 2nd leg....
-
That looks a decent enough team but like I said I'd like someone on the bench that could come on and cause problems which is why I'd pick McGarry over Smith and keep Smith for the last 20 minutes or so.
-
Its difficult to make a prediction because most of us haven't ever seen Llanelli play and we don't really know how we will play due to the fitness situation and all the other turmoil thats been going on lately. Hopefully they will be garbage and we finish the thing off tomorrow but I think its more likely it will be a close run thing. We don't have many goals in the squad right now and I'd be surprised if we keep a clean sheet so I'll go with... 2-1 to the 'Well I don't see the home and away legs meaning much in this tie, we should be looking to win both games, even if I don't expect Llanelli to roll over.

I think Falkirk have made quite an astute signing here.
-
We need players in for sure and Jennings could turn out to be a good signing but I have concerns that we are losing young local players that came through the ranks and we are going to end up with a team of 7 or 8 lower division players from England who will be here for a year or two. I wouldn't want to go back to the Davies era. Anyway, hopefully Jennings does well for us if he signs on the dotted line.
-
My answer to that would be this is a knock out competition and you have to put out the strongest possible line up you can. We are undoubtedly weaker in that position if Quinn doesn't play. If we can put the tie to bed in the first leg then perhaps younger players can be experimented with but I don't think its going to be quite that easy.
-
Maybe the refs are a bit fairer in the Europa But then Anders Frisk pops into my head So maybe not!
-
If there is no firm cash bid in for him he should play in my opinion but I don't know whats going on behind the scenes. I put McGarry in because we only have 12 players and I'd like genuine width in the side, if you put Murphy up front in a 4-4-2 that makes the team a little unbalanced in midfield, unless you put Darren Smith in the starting eleven and then you don't really have anything even approaching an 'impact' player coming off the bench. With 15 minutes to go I'd much rather have Smith coming on than McGarry.
-
I'd go with a 4-4-1-1 ..............................Fraser............................... ...................................................................... Quinn......Reynolds..............Craigan.....Hammell ...................................................................... Murphy....Lasley..................Fitzpatrick..O'Brien.. ....|...........................................................|..... ....|.......................McGarry.........................|..... ....|...........................................................|..... ....v........................Sutton..........................v.....

Thanks. That's cheered me up a bit. Not been too happy for the last few days although it didn't have much to do with the manager position!
-
McGhee said he wasn't interested in signing Klimpl about a week ago.
-
Some right dicks over on the Bristol board. Clarkson is a 'boring' signing brought in from 'obscurity' who is not 'Bristol class' and is 'completely unknown'. And people in Motherwell still use 'horse and carts' apparently.
-
600k is a joke and we'll live to regret this transfer. Maybe sooner rather than later.
-
Retiring a shirt number is forgetting not remembering.
-
I think you are being optimistic about crowd numbers. For a Div 1 season think mid week League Cup match, ie 3,500 odd. Also I'll stand by 'Well whatever division they are but I do not want to go INTO a season thinking 'were are going to struggle all season, have regular humping at Fir Park off pish teams and possible get relegated having sold all our best players'. It's a new season, the great leveller, everyone is on the same points, everyone should go into the first game with hopes. Our season starts next week and the closer it gets the greater the feeling of dread I get.
-
£800,000 in exchange for a shitty season. No thanks. I see black clouds forming into the phrase 'Motherwell Season 2009/10'.
-
If successful, how long do you think he'd hang around at Fir Park? Longer than McGhee did? Fair play to Motherwell for looking outside Scotland and trying to get a biggish name but I think most of these guys are at it. People said McGhee was a mercenary but what makes anyone think any of these 'final four' wouldn't be back down South in a flash. It's a gap in their CV and we could be going through the same tedious process a year from now. It'd even surprise me if some of these guys aren't even interested in the job if offered, it just gets their name in the newspaper.
-
Why should Llanelli give up home advantage on what is probably a tight little ground and rent a 15,000 seater stadium just to accommodate maybe an extra 1,000 - 1,200 'Well fans? £15,000 minus extra policing, stewarding, stadium costs, tax etc. Doesn't make much sense from a Llanelli point of view.

Looks like the 2nd Qualifying round is made today as well - didn't know that. What chance Falkirk?!
