  1. It's a subtle way of saying I want to give her a 'we beat you' smirk!
  2. Apparently no one likes Scott McDonald. Would be in my Motherwell XI with Tommy Coyne. Dougie was great though. A wee guy in an era when defenders could assault you, he took his bumps and was injured a lot, but he was a player. Only problem was he could only score against the Old Firm. Off the top of my head something like 25 of his 60 ish goals for Motherwell were against Rangers and Celtic. Wish we had that problem now! His utter destruction of European Cup winning Basile Boli is one of my all time favourite memories.
  3. When anything goes wrong at a Championship or lower level club they always blame everything on the Scottish guy (manager/player/coach etc). Don't see them going for two Scots in a row!
  4. My other half is a Celtic fan and the last time we beat them was about two months before I met her. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE.
  5. Looking forward to Charles Dunne's defending on Sportscene tonight. I mean they shipped 4 so I can only assume....
  6. Maddock had to go after making ungentlemanly comments about Port Glasgow Athletic's silk knickers. And we were even worse in 1904-05 than we were were in 1903-04. We actually finished bottom of the league in 1904-05 as opposed to second bottom the season before.
  7. Hibs form is so atrocious it kinda makes you believe we'll lose this one.
  8. Woolery and Mugabi have to be up there but personally I'd give it to Tony Watt. Great goal and great performance.
  9. It's without doubt our best midfield blend. Shame Barry got sent off as it disrupts the same selection going out again when ever the suspension kicks in. Same applies to Solheim's injury. Hopefully he's back soon but he looks a bit injury prone.
  10. Fun match at Motherwell swimming baths. Good first half performance although Dundee Utd finished the match stronger however I think the conditions were in our favour tonight as they were better when we were better. Woolery really good tonight. Watt a standout as usual and if anyone wants evidence as to why I think we are better with Mugabi at right back then mark this one exhibit A. Match turned into a bit of a farce towards the end with the pitch completely saturated but it was entertaining. Dundee performance was terrible BUT we've beaten Aberdeen, Hearts and Dundee Utd in the last four. That's pretty good going.
  11. I wouldn't be putting any money on us blowing away either team but we should be getting through this tie. Morton are plucky given the conditions they are operating under these days but they hardly score in the Championship so you'd expect us to be a step up from that. Inverness started the season grinding out results but they've been pretty ropey recently. Of course the tie is too far away to really make current form relevant. However chants of 'Broadfoot....Broadfoot...Broadfoot' might be worth reviving.
  12. Watched it last week. Hopefully Tony's not been staying up all night playing Playstation again.
  13. Dundee Utd have only lost 2 out of their last 11. We are on 5 defeats over the same period so that gives a kind of gauge going into this match about what your expectations might be. On the other hand they haven't won any of their last 3 away matches (2 defeats to St Johnstone and Hearts and a draw at Ross County). In fact over the season their away form hasn't exactly been amazing. (W2 D3 L3). They have the best clean sheet record in the league (7) but have only kept 1 out of their last 5 away matches. That says to me that Dundee Utd are a tough egg to crack but at least on the road they aren't quite as secure at the back. We've only failed to score at home once this season against Celtic so at least looking at the form you'd think we'd have a reasonable chance of getting something tonight.
  14. It's just the wee club mentality. The players that have a good mentality usually go further in the game. If we do have players like that they probably move on fairly quickly. It's annoying for fans but you have to remember for professional footballers it's a job, not a fanatical obsession. And I know I have days I can't be bothered in my job....
  15. Ironic that the first match of the season we have the majority of the possession we get pumped!
  16. Going into the game today we had the joint best win record outside the Old Firm. There is no pressure on the manager but there are things for him to iron out.
  17. Defensively great last week to......this.
  18. ETERNAL OPTIMIST If we can score early second half we are right back in this.
  19. That's why the physio's most important medical kit was a tube of Airfix glue.
  20. I've got a few teams but I don't think any of them still have 11 men! Know I have Spain and Italy of the Butragueno/Altobelli vintage.
  21. I think the blend of Goss, Slattery and Maguire has been our best midfield combination so far this season. Goss not playing is especially concerning because because he's the guy with a wee bit of technique that can change a game. Don't think Grimshaw gives you anything like that so it's not even as close to a like-for-like change as we could have made. Goss has created 4 goals in 6 starts, Grimshaw has created 0 goals in 10 starts. That's a worry for me. Still, fingers crossed. I'll take a scrappy 1-0 win.
  22. Dundee have a very poor home record....except they beat us in the League Cup there. Dundee have the worst defence in the league though and have shipped 9 goals in their last two home matches against Celtic (4) and Ross County (5). On current form you'd expect us to get something but we all know what supporting Motherwell is like!
  23. The best Motherwell team I've ever seen, the early to mid ninties side didn't exactly do much in the cups either. The McFadden team was our best chance. Played Rangers off the park in the semi but still managed to lose 3-4 with a poor Dunfermline side waiting in the Final. If we'd got through we would have won it. No doubt whatsoever.
  24. To be fair, and I think a lot of people have been well off it with criticism of Alexander, there is just more to discuss after a defeat. That's the way it is, especially when it's a heavy defeat to a team we haven't beaten in the league for 20 years. Loads of folk have been going on about how 4-3-3 doesn't work and how 'stubborn' the manager is for persisting with it. I don't agree with that and I'll argue the case but at the same time I don't expect those other people to come on and say how wrong they got it off one, two results. With football it's an ever evolving situation and as soon as we lose again you'll hear the same thing again. Some people see it one way, others a different way. That's just the way people are. Personally I don't get the scale of the animosity against Alexander when only Rangers and Celtic have won more games this season than us. We are also fourth top goal scorers and we've scored in 12 out of 14 league matches this season but whatever. I get the standard of football played hasn't been great but again I don't think the standard has been good for quite a while going back at least a few managers, with maybe the Turnbull period as an exception. Still, I think the purpose of the forum is to give people a chance to express an opinion, not to agree with me personally. It worries me, here and in society in general, that people would rather pull up the drawbridge than actually engage with a range of opinions. We all need to be a bit more robust and less sensitive to different view points.
