124 appearances and has never scored. Bringing him in as a striker coach?

Are people forgetting Cadden has been flattering to deceive for a quite a while? The fact that we've won these games without him shows he's not really been missed. Ariyibi wasn't at the races yesterday but unless he has a sustained spell of poor form I don't see how Cadden even gets in the team. And next season we will need to sign a 'proper' winger because Cadden isn't one. He's not a full back either and the centre of midfield is just fine with Campbell, Turnbull and Gorrin.

2018/19 Game 31: St Johnstone (H) March 30th 3pm Kick Off
Ya Bezzer! replied to Kmcalpin's topic in Club Chat
St. Johnstone have conceded 2 or more goals in 8 out of the last 10. Livingston put 3 past them recently having only score 3 goals in their previous 9 matches. Basically St. Johnstone are honking right now. -

Didn't hear any boos today but there was certainly booing at the Accies match. -
Two match changers were Gillespies penalty save and Frears opener. Then on the other hand Turnbull was probably the best player and scored a goal. Going to go for Gillespie.

Weird one. Great result but the match was howlin' and our overall performance was pretty poor. Substitutes changed the game by actually giving us some width and it was a nice finish by Frear. Pretty much everything before that though was bad. The full backs had their worst games for ages and the wingers just didn't get in the match at all. Main as usual worked away, held the ball up but showed little striking ability and was a blunt knife. As a result it was looking a 0-0 all day or even a 0-1 with St. Johnstone nicking it. Shout out to Mark Gillespie who's probably saved the match for us with another penalty save. -
Raith Rovers also equalized against us with a last minute free kick. The last game of the season I seem to remember St. Johnstone got relegated despite beating us. It was also Tommy McLeans last match as manager and Stevie McMillan's debut.

As others have said our best chance is to leap frog Hearts. Hearts are absolutely shite as far as I am concerned, I've seen them three times this season, but you don't need to be good to get points in this league as most teams are as bad as each other. All you can really do is take care of your own games. St. Johnstone are on a really bad run. The interesting thing is they have gone from a run of clean sheets to conceding multiples in virtually ever match. Given that they don't have much going up top, they could give Curtis Main a run for the 'least prolific striker of the year' award, I think this is a match we should be winning. It's very noticeable that we've beaten the bottom clubs fairly comfortable but when we've come up against Kilmarnock, Hibs, Celtic it's been a different story. Today will be a good gauge of how better we've really got and what work needs to be done in the summer. -
I know that you know that's not what I said. I said he was most responsible.
-
How about when we won three out of four in October/November when Turnbull came into the team and scored three goals. Did he combine with Ariyibi and Hastie then? Facts are Turnbull has been a huge contribution to almost all our wins this season, is our top league scorer, our top league assist provider and clearly the most accomplished player from a technical point of view. Tait and Aldred might be two of the better performers in the squad but they were part of a team that couldn't win a game and was dire to watch pre Turnbull. Like I said for Turnbull not to win both awards would be ridiculous considering his own personal performances and the transformative effect he's had on the team in general.
-
Went for Turnbull. On a day when we were lacking a bit of quality and final ball Turnbull was the only guy that really looked comfortable out there.
-
Turnbull is most responsible for turning the season round than any other person at the club. For him not to win both awards would be ridiculous.

By offering them contracts before other clubs see them doing well at the top level and come in with offers 10 times what we can offer. Bit harder when you do it the other way around.

2018/19 Game 30: Hibs (A) March 16th 3pm kick off
Ya Bezzer! replied to texanwellfan's topic in Club Chat
I thought there were quite a few substandard performances. Thought the whole back four was poor today, Campbell had his poorest match in a while and Main didn't look interested in being out in the rain. Even Gillespie looked a bit ropey at times. Outside of Gorrin, Hastie and Turnbull everyone was below average. The substitutes improved us and should have been made earlier as it was obvious what was wrong. -

Conditions made it difficult for our ball players. Hibs did enough to win but their goals were down to our sloppiness rather than great play. On another day it could easily have been 0-0 with a wee bit more defensive concentration. -

Not at our best but don't think there has been two goals in it....both soft ones to give away. Main has been really poor today so far. Penalty really took the wind out our sails. -
So your policy is to ignore the best performing youths and let them run out their contracts? No one is saying every hot youth player makes it but it's got to be the best and most sensible policy to keep these players under contract if it's even a 70-30 chance that they don't make it because there are hundreds of thousands of pounds, maybe even millions resting on it, if they do. We've invested a lot of time and money into Jake Hastie, he comes in, does brilliantly and he could leave off the back of a shocking lack of foresight. I'm afraid this Hastie/Turnbull contract situation is inexcusable.
-
He was booed when his name was read out in the team line up and then he was booed a second time later. Wasn't hundreds of people but it wasn't one or two either.

And what happens if Hastie leaves and perhaps someone comes in for Turnbull in the summer or he picks up an injury? The answer is we have a team that doesn't score again. We are doing well but there will always be areas that can be improved upon and I'm afraid Main is the one most would point out. No one is saying he doesn't contribute but his scoring record is fairly pathetic and it's not like he's not had chances, he's had plenty chances and fluffed most of them. Maybe someone else can come in and contribute what Main provides and be a better source of goals? I don't think it's beyond the bounds of imagination to believe so. Before our good run we had plenty people on here saying our mediocre league position and poor performances were as good as we could do given the budget, small club, players etc. That's turned out to be a lot of hooey. You should always be trying to improve and the fact that we've picked up form doesn't mean we can sit back and relax. We should always be looking to identify where the team can be strengthened and aspiring to be better. -
Gorrin would have been my man of the match if he hadn't been taken off fairly early in the match. He was superb in the first half. Ariyibi was good 1st half but faded a bit in the second. Campbell was solid. Got to go with Turnbull though.
-
Cos I saw him playing for the Under 20s and Hastie and Turnbull were the stand out players in a good team. ANYONE that watches the Under 20s will tell you the same. It's nothing to do with hindsight. These guys have turned the season around, no one was expecting them to do this well and have the level of impact that they have but it remains a mystery as to why the two best youth prospects at the club went into the 2nd half of the season out of contract. And the supporters that booed Hastie today need to take a long hard look at themselves.....especially as probably about half of them are fair weather guys.

I agree to an extent with that. However I think it's maybe time to give James Scott more starts. He does some things well but 3 goals in 35 starts from Main is just not good enough for a forward player. -

It's strange but I can't remember us going in at half time with a good lead and coming out 2nd half and really building on that. We nearly always switch off and that's what happened today. It was a bit too easy today and the game was effectively won in the first 15 minutes. Some good individual performances but I didn't think we really linked up as a team today except in a couple of spells, even first half there were a few fallow periods and while we looked comfortable enough there was a lack of impetus but that was probably down to having the points in the bag early in the match. Ariyibi was great in the first half, thought Gorrin had an excellent match and was a bit puzzled why he was the first to come off, Turnbull is just a classy operator. But Main wasn't good enough again and Johnson looked rather rusty, perhaps understandable since he hasn't played since December. Hastie and Turnbull have scored 10 of our last 15 league matches and while it's great they are scoring I think it points to the importance of them in this run. Take them out and maybe we are struggling a bit because the rest of the team and in particular the forwards aren't scoring. -
On the Hastie/Rangers thing, I don't have a problem with the player. I have a problem with the manager and the club who have allowed the two top players from a very good youth side to go into the last 6 months of their contracts without getting them tied up. If Hastie had been given a contract a year ago, or 6 months ago, when everyone knew he was one of the two stand out players coming through our system, he'd have probably signed up and that would be that. The way the club has conducted it's self over the last few years with regards to it's youth policy, it's (non existent) long term strategy of promoting youth and for giving youth players a clear path into the first team has been shamefully misguided and shambolic. Robinson's volte-face of recent weeks doesn't cut it. Horrendous mistakes and mismanagement have occurred under his, and his superiors, watch in this regard. Whether Hastie stays or goes some arse's need kicked, a coherent and future proofed youth strategy needs to be put in place and the first team manager should be working under a specific remit to develop youth players within a first team context.

Will be a good test to see how far we have really come. Not putting down the winning run but that's a step up in quality from the likes of Dundee, Livingston and St. Mirren and you'd expect Hibs and Accies to be better than the last time we played them.
