  1. Going with the whole counter intuitive thing since I really don't like the look of that line up I'm going to say we are going to get something out of this match. And I'll keep thinking that while I walk up to Fir Park and try and convince myself!
  2. Kilmarnock has probably been the best performance from an opposition team I've seen this season. I'm having disastrous premonitions about our upcoming visit to NDP so I think we really need to take at least something from this match. Kilmarnock tend not to lose these sort of games but they have drawn a few. Forget about results 6 out of the last 8 performances have been no where near good enough and about half of those have been completely unacceptable. We need to up our performances big time.
  3. Really slow, injury prone and not really been in good form.
  4. Stewards aren't great but probably about half the support turns up with 5 - 10 minutes to kick off.
  5. James Scott is sitting there. Put him in for two matches. See how he does. We have wide players - give Hastie a shot, give Watson a shot. Or just go out and spend more money on more players and then justify failure on having a small budget.
  6. I'll play. Carson----Poorish this season after last seasons excellent performances. May have been down to his medical condition. Gillespie---Performed relatively well so far Aldred-----He's surrounded by poor players so it's difficult to judge him. Starting to have my doubts. Mc Hugh---If any player represents the current side it's him. Occasional decent performances but more likely stupid decisions, mistakes, daft bookings, poor technical ability, slow as fuck etc... Hartley----Growls a lot to cover up the fact he's injured/slow/done Grimmy-----Gives you maybe 4 good performances a year. Just not good enough. Campbell----Well down on last year when he was our best outfield player. Like Aldred he is surrounded by poor players. Burn out or is it a morale issue? Bigi------One of the better ball players but he flatters to deceive, consistently doesn't track back. Like McHugh someone that never seems to learn from repeated mistakes. Turnbull---By miles our most gifted player and yet was ignored by the manager up until recently. Out of contract, if he gets an offer from elsewhere he'd be mad not to take it. Tait---Another player that's hard to judge due to him being played in the wrong position. Have witnessed him being ripped apart on a few occasions recently. Main----Very frustrating player. Does some things well but as a striker he couldn't hit the side of a barn. His shooting is terrible, like guy on the street in a pair of oxfords terrible. Johnson---Has proved he will score goals if you create chances. Maybe doesn't give you much else though. Ferguson---All I know is Airdrie fans didn't rate him. Maguire----I rate him. Maybe too much football in him to get a game in our team. Mbulu---Has been a bit shaky to be honest but he's learning the game. No blame can be put on guys like Mbulu, they should be getting mentored by more experienced players. Gorrin----Sportscene star. Hasn't had many chances but if you take someone like Turnbull he came in and made an impression. Gorrin hasn't done that for me. Rose----Was never very good but has got worse and worse. Be gone! Bowman---Hard worker but I'm afraid he just isn't good enough for this level of football. Sammon---Has been a scapegoat for some. The signing was baffling as his game is not suited to the style of football we play. Do we bring players in on height stats? Dunne---Was poor at first, came on to a bit of a game but I think he's been atrocious since he came back from his injury. His distribution is shocking - a big problem with the team in general. Frear---When Frear played well the team played much better with the width he gave us. However I think his confidence has been shattered under Robinson. Time to move on. Cadden-----Like so many a player who has gone backwards. Lots of goodwill towards him but does anyone know what to do with him? Needs to find a position and add goals to his game. Tanner----I like him a lot, for a spell last season he was one of the few positives. However with the extent of his injury it's going to be tough for him to get back to that any time soon. Donnelly/ATS------Poor and injury prone. Newall---See above. Hastie---Would give us some width. From what I've seen he's not as consistent as Turnbull but I think it's worth giving him a shot. Maclean---A player we failed to develop when he had excellent potential. Will leave soon. Under 20`s ---- James Scott should be stepping up. Adam Livingstone has been excellent, one difficult appearance against Celtic shouldn't rule him out. Would like to see guys like Broque Watson given a chance off the bench (under the right circumstances) to see if they are ready for first team football. A few others, say, Akeal Rehman, look like they have a basic level of ability that many of our first team players don't.
  7. This. 7 recent games, check out these shots on target stats. St. Mirren - 2 shots on target Celtic away - 0 shots on target Livingston - 1 shot on target Hearts - 4 shots on target Celtic home - 2 shots on target Dundee - 4 shots on target Rangers - 1 shot on target
  8. You could do a lot worse than fine players £50 every time they play an aimless high ball. Of course it would increase local bankruptcies by roughly about 20 but these are desperate times.
  9. There are multiple examples of us trying to sign a player in one window and then actually signing him in a different window under a different manager. From that you have to conclude that our managers aren't working off their own short lists.....at least all of the time. I think it's something to consider and to look at. With the complete lack of quality in the current squad our recruitment has to be something that's looked into.
  10. Danny Johnson is one of the few in this squad I'd keep and Moult is one of my favourite ever players. There might well be talent in lower and non league football in England but our strategy of hoovering up 3 quarters of a squad from that level of football and then crossing our fingers and hoping one or two of them might be good enough to sell on while the team toils and the standards on display collapses ever downwards....that's not a strategy I can get behind. We have decent goalkeepers, one outfield player who can control a ball and two who might score and the rest are a waste of time. Otherwise the squad is dire. There has never been less talent. Even the team that went into the play offs a couple of seasons ago had Scott McDonald, Marvin Johnson, Lionel Ainsworth, Iain Vigurs, Lee Erwin, Henrik Ojamaa, Conor Grant, Stephen Pearson. Now some of those players might have been highly inconsistent, huffy, lazy, inexperienced or have other faults but at least they had some footballing ability. Every single one of those players is better than 95% of our present squad. There is virtually no technical or footballing ability in that squad of 20+ players. The club has been run down over 5 years or so and we are now reaching a critical mass in terms of lack of talent.
  11. We had one player we signed from an English non league team that started. But they are non league standard and play in the style of a non league team. The fact that we signed them from League Two or League One reserves doesn't really come into it. Out of 198 first team starts (before today) only 69 of them were by Scottish players and that's if you include Tom Aldred. Overwhelmingly our team is composed of English lower league standard players that just aren't good enough.
  12. I write a lot on here but you just summed it up in one sentence. The paucity of ambition is manifest.
  13. As I said at half time the only quality in the game came from Turnbull. Should be mentored through games but actually he's by a mile our best player. It's not even close.
  14. This is what happens when you run down a Scottish Premiership team to a English non league team. You are who you play.
  15. Well, that's the end of a week where the standard of professionalism at Motherwell Football Club fell to perhaps an all time low. When managers are picking and choosing what matches to compete in something is very, very badly wrong at the club. I said at the time it was a deplorable decision. Firstly we effectively given up a match where there was three points to be won. Never mind that getting them was unlikely, they should been competed for but weren't. But then, secondly, for the team to be rested to put in that performance told you everything. The style of play is an affront to top level football. It's atrocious. It's never been worse, never, in 40 years of watching this club. The standard of player is a disgrace. Don't even have the most rudimentary footballing skills. But forget using a football, they don't even have an ability to organise themselves, to run off the ball, to help team mates or even show any pride in themselves. We punt it and we give away fouls. That's what we do. That's what 2 years of Robinson's coaching has done to us. Punt and foul. The manager proved himself an idiot this week. And the players proved that not only are they not footballers, that they shouldn't be picking up wages on false pretenses, they proved that they don't even care that much. Not one iota was given this afternoon until it was far too late. Not one! Same old faces, failing time and time again. They need kicked out of the club. And you know what the worst thing about today was? It was oh so predictable. We are truly woeful. You know how bad? Barraclough's team would murder that lot. Someone, somewhere, has to come into this club and introduce some professional standards. The club right now is a disgrace.
  16. Dross, quite frankly. Head tennis in the rain by a bunch of cloggers. Only quality on show is when Turnbull gets on the ball. He's like a completely different species from the rest of them.
  17. When we used 21 different players over 7 matches, 20 of those in starting positions? Or when we didn't play the same starting line up twice at any point and made 2 or more changes in all but one match (which had 1 change). Last December the Robinson happy clappers were using the fact that he couldn't name a settled side to defend him. Facts don't stack up on that statement I'm afraid. Remember I have a spreadsheet! BTW, Alex Fisher. Took less than a year to completely forget about him. 1. Richard Tait 7 2. Cedric Kipre 7 3. Ryan Bowman 6+1 4. Charles Dunne 6 5. Craig Tanner 5+2 6. Andy Rose 5+2 7. Carl McHugh 5+1 8. Gael Bigirimana 4+2 9. Allan Campbell 4+1 10. Liam Grimshaw 4+1 11. Peter Hartley 4 12. Trevor Carson 4 13. Alex Fisher 3+1 14. Chris Cadden 3 15. Russell Griffiths 3 16. Elliot Frear 2+2 17. Steven Hammell 2 18. George Newell 1+3 19. Deimantas Petravicius 1+2 20. Louis Moult 1 21. Ross MacLean 0+3
  18. If someone could intercept the walkie talkie signal so we don't get Bowman on as a sub on 70 minutes that would be grand. This is a game we should be winning - St. Mirren have 1 win in the last 17 league matches and have taken 2 points away from home all season. But as I said over on P&B when we have a team that can go from Aberdeen match level of performance to Livingston match level of performance over the course of a week it's very difficult to make any kind of accurate prediction. Our inability to score goals* is always a worry because you are basically looking at one or two players to be on form to have any chance in a match and St. Mirren have been outscoring us recently, St. Mirren have score in 6 matches in a row, something we haven't managed for a year. Still we should win. * Main, Bowman, Sammon - 43 league appearances this season, 3 goals.
  19. It's one thing if officials are being harangued or abused during a match but what exactly is the point of giving managers bans for after match comments? It's ridiculous when managers can't answer questions after a match for fear of a touchline ban. Every single journalist, player, manager and fan knows that referees in this country are diabolical. Every single week poor refereeing decisions are costing teams results and yet guys like Andrew Dallas are virtually guaranteed top level football matches without sanction while managers get hauled up to Hampden for speaking the truth.
  20. For me the U20s took a huge step forward when Craigan came in. He will be a big loss.
  21. The bigger picture is we gave up 3 points without lifting a finger. It's totally unprofessional and that lack of professionalism is one of the reasons we've been at the end of the table that we are. I didn't go to Celtic Park expecting a win tonight but I did expect the team to put in more effort than I did walking from Bridgeton station. A no effort performance. A nothing performance. A pointless performance. And I'll say it again Celtic weren't even any good tonight. We rolled over like a trained dog.
  22. Perhaps instead of a season ticket we should just have a bottom 4 ticket. You know, just the important games.
  23. Funnily enough I've been watching a few Bill Shankley videos were he reiterated over and over - play for the fans. Well the fans, paid £28 tonight to see not an iota of energy expended in what was clearly a match written off by the management, based on team selection, and the players, based on performance. And the thing is Celtic were garbage and still went 3-0 despite barely pressuring us in the first half hour or so. Charles Dunne is a player who has won me over despite some obvious weaknesses in his game but his performance was embarrassing tonight. The rest weren't much better. A team that turns it off and on based on whether they feel like it. Won't get relegated is good enough for these guys.
