We're probably going to play 1 up front all season so it's hardly a surprise. At least a couple of young players are getting a start.
-
Yeah, they were a bit of a calamity club in recent times, certainly not the same level of team that acquitted themselves reasonably well last time we played them. Motherwell are literally 1.04 at the bookies. Probably the lowest odds you'll ever get for a Motherwell win!

Well you are either onside or offside, there has to be a line. No one would think you should give a goal if it was nearly over the goal line, why is offside different? The main issue is delays to decisions, especially after goals, and the offside and goal line technology is yes or no and works efficiently.
-
Automated offsides and goal line technology seems to be working pretty well. Would much rather have that than VAR.

Three 17 or under players started a match in the Premiership last season. Apart from that you had a few more guys coming off the bench 2 or 3 times. Scottish football is utter garbage at giving youth players a chance or promoting them up the levels at anything other than a glacial pace. David Watson and Lennon Miller are the two most experienced players in the league under 18 and they have 2 U21 caps between them.
-
I'd agree if I could get some kind of sunglasses filter that magically put us in a decent strip!
-
Now I'm not saying Lennon Miller is in the same class as Yamal but one is 16 years old and just put his country through to the Euro finals and the other is 17 years old and we've just decided to move him up to the national U21 set up. We are so conservative and so distrusting of talent in this country. You just know that if Yamal was Scottish he wouldn't have a first team appearance under his belt at club level, never mind international.

Are we releasing the away kit before the season starts?
-
When I'm voting on here I just go for whoever I think was best but on my season spreadsheets I use the rating from Who Scored and their man of the match list was as follows. I've not go to the trouble of collating the top three from every match, just the top player. Spittal - 12 Gent - 6 Kelly - 5 Bair - 4 Biereth - 2 Blaney - 2 Mugabi - 2 Casey - 1 Miller - 1 Paton - 1 Wilkinson - 1 Nicholson - 1

Mad Dog beat me to the question. I've always thought Wilson was the one that was most likely to step up if given the opportunity.
-
Barmack talks snakeskin oil salesman level shit ('vision', 'values', 'global stage', 'technology platforms' etc) and his offer is ridiculous. Can we just please end this whole saga?
-
Pretty much half the Dundee squad last season were loans. Be interesting to see how they do this season.

You might want to look into the effectiveness of prayer.

Not a bad opening set of fixtures. Early season is a decent time to get Rangers. They won't have any momentum and will probably integrating new players that are new to the league. They will also be under a lot of pressure to get off to a good start. Also might not even be at Ibrox... Other three games should be looking for 3 points in all of them. Biggest problem is we will be playing in THAT strip!
-
It's not, by any stretch of the imagination, a Motherwell strip. It's like we are going to have to watch a different team for all of next season - but not in a good way. Honestly it's terrible and it gets even worse when you see the shorts and socks.
-
Just means we'll never get caught out on the counter attack as they'll still be trying to get up the pitch. 🤣 Think we've been better without Slattery than with him. Look at the results when Lennon Miller was out and look at them when Slattery was out. Think it's pretty telling. Would not have offered him a new contract and I'm assuming he's one of the better paid players. Paton isn't the greatest but he rarely gives you less than 100% and if you blend the midfield to include technically better players I think he can play a role. Callachan could honestly go either way. Worth pointing out the guy has played well over 140 matches and scored 20 goals at this level for various teams so it's not totally outlandish. Obviously his injury record at County is pretty alarming but he was one of the better midfielders in the league two or three seasons ago. Can he replicate that form? The jury is out but I think you need to give him a chance. Kettlewell has taken a risk but it's premature to lambast him on it. Let's see some performances and results first. Halliday should stick to podcasting, offered very little last season. Only thing you can say is maybe a pre-season will sharpen him up but he's turning 33 and we already have too many older players especially in the defensive areas.
-
Mostly sub appearances and he was also playing wide rather than as a centre forward. He scored 12 goals the previous season.
-
Well we are a small fan owned club so what do you expected? The only reason we've hung with the big boys so long is that we should have been relegated three times and got away with it due to the absolute shit show that is Scottish football. Pretty much the whole of Scottish football is pure diddy stuff so we're always fighting against the tide just in terms of having sensible medium term goals and maintaining a standard of professionalism. But hey, that's how it is and if it takes more out of you than it gives back, we're all allowed to walk away. And honestly, I'd rather support Motherwell as is, than have some billionaire come in as use us at a play thing. Motherwell might be a lot of things that aren't very inspiring but we are authentic.

Mugabi is one of those players that often has a really good game and then just makes a catastrophic clanger. Unfortunately he's never really managed to eliminate that from his game.
-
That's actually better than the Scotland kit for the Euros!

First of all goals scorers have to do it season after season to be worth big bucks. Bair doesn't have two decent seasons in a row yet. Secondly, we are playing at a level of football that is, frankly, guff and miles behind any level of English football that's paying six figures. There are exceptions but most of the players that move down south don't do much, especially strikers. Sam Cosgrove being a good example. Diddy player, had a couple of good seasons of form in Scotland, went down south, did FA. Birmingham paid 2 million quid for him and he never scored a single goal for them. Minus penalties, Bair scored 12 goals last season. To make a million on him over a season on that level of performance at our level would be a great result. If you can get 3 million even better but I'd be very surprised if anyone paid that for him. You think teams with an overall transfer budget of probably tens of millions would be looking at him? I don't.

At the very least if Motherwell want us to renew season tickets they should give us DIFFERENT shite to watch.
-
I'd have released Slattery. Decent player on his day but those days can often be very few and far between. Overall his basics aren't good enough. Didn't''t really miss him when he was injured and in fact our form improved as I thought it might. Assuming he's one of the top earners at the club I'd suggest you could get more value for the wages. The one thing I'd say in Slattery's favour is that with Spittal gone maybe there is more of a role for him in the team. As I said last season I felt they didn't both fit into the same starting eleven. Maybe he's an AM but he's absolutely not a CM or DM.

I can't remember us playing Montrose in my time. Might be a memory issue though! OK - I checked. We've only played Montrose 8 times in our history and the last time was 1971/72.
