Scottish Premiership Game 5: Kilmarnock (H) Saturday 09/09/17

Didn't seem to be injured. Kilmarnock weren't in the game at that stage and the defence was cruising it. -

Deserved to win on the second half performance. Might have been different if Brophy hadn't missed a sitter, albeit with a good save from Carson but he still had to put it away, and then Carson again has clawed one out of the corner of the goal. Second half improved immensely after a pretty sloppy first half - Hammell and Bigi were a huge improvement on Rose and particularly Dunne who gave the ball away on virtually every occasion. Killie's heads seem to go down after we opened the scoring and we were completely dominating the match at that stage until the rather odd Hartley for Grimshaw substitution put us the other way. Suddenly we looked a bit nervy at the back, a bit tired and falling further and further back. The penalty came at a good time as it was looking like one of those nervy finishes we are all so accustomed to at Fir Park. Carson had a good day, Kipre was excellent again but I thought Allan Campbell was absolutely tremendous. Looks like he has a 150 games under his belt. -

Ok the Hartley change has completely unnerved us. We were cruising. -

Changes have improved us immensely. Rose was anonymous, Dunne was atrocious. -

Had more of the ball but we keep giving it away. Honestly think Dunne must have about 5% pass completion in that half. Started OK but got sloppy again and lapsed into long ball stuff. Moult taking up deep and wide positions isn't helping. Cadden isn't a right back either. Kilmarnock should be at least 1-0 up based on actual good chances. -

On the face of it we are in a much better place than Kilmarnock but I think looking at it beyond surface level I'd expect an even match tomorrow. Kilmarnock have not been far away from getting results but have faltered at the last. Conceded in the 89th minute against St Johnstone (at 1-1), 88th minute against Celtic (at 0-1) and the 88th minute against Hamilton (at 2-1). In fact both teams have conceded the same number of goals in league games this season and there has only been 1 clean sheet between the teams so I'd expect both teams to score. Overall though we seem to have more goal power than Kilmarnock have shown so far and Kilmarnock's tendency to concede late goals gives us the slight advantage. 2-1 home win. -
See Henri Anier scored the winner in a 1-0 win for Estonia against Cyprus. Playing in Finland at the moment apparently.

Last season Crawford got 10 goals and 8 assists. I think we could deal with that kind of stall in progress.

Late on this as I work strange hours (not as a taxi driver though) Peter Hartley. I'd take a sneaky punt on him improving us defensively. Experienced player that's pretty much played 1st team football his whole career. That's why he's here, he's not prepared to sit around somewhere. Just that on its own, to me, shows an admirable attitude. He's also got a decent record of goals, one of my standard rants for a while was the lack of goals we get out of our centre backs. Overall I reckon moving out Heneghan and bringing in Hartley will be an amazing bit of business and will benefit the team. It remains to be seen but that's my prediction. Liam Grimshaw. I was luke warm on him first time round, I felt he took a long time to really find his feet although he did put a few good performances latter. If he's cover for right back, fine. If he's now in front of Allan Campbell for a midfield berth it's another wrong turn in terms of youth development. Overall though 1 - Held on to Moult 2 - Held on to Cadden 3 - Moved out Heneghan for an outrageous sum and brought in an experienced player with a track record 4 - Made a lot of dough off a player that didn't want to be here in the first place. 5 - Ditched Clay and Blyth I think we look in better shape than at the beginning of the season but at the end of the day it's all about producing performances. We beat Hearts and that was great but everyone else has been beating them for 6 months so I think in the aftermath of the game some went a little overboard on the performance. I enjoyed it personally but I also realise that Hearts have been the worst team in the league so far in 2017. We should be looking to beat Kilmarnock at home in the worst of circumstances but after we have games coming out against Hibs and Aberdeen and I think that's when we really see what we are made of.

Ha ha! If I'm being compared to a taxi driver I really must be a moaning git! Sorry, I don't have a driving licence and I wash my armpits so no go on that one. On the other hand I did meet Lee Harvey Oswald several times at the Cuban training camp just outside Overton.

He wasn't good against St Johnstone. Last season plenty on here would have gave him bus fare to England but as usual are so fickle they spin on a dime at 1 or 2 games. My opinion I based on 40 games. If he puts together a run of form maybe I'll revise but not before. As for the constant negative, well things have generally negative over a number of seasons, hardly my fault for calling a spade a spade. However you really don't have to look far for me too see praise - for Bowman for instance for his effect in the last few games, or Kipres performance against Hearts. Or praise for Campbell as we cross our fingers that he might actually get a first team start some time soon. If you want to offer weak argument based on a myopic view of my posts that's down to you.

If we got £150,000 for him I'd still be surprised someone paid for him but fine, it would cover the cost of a replacement. And I actually mentioned in my match comments in that he had had a good game. I'm simply giving an opinion that, for me, he is only effective in certain circumstances, such as in the Hearts game when teams play narrow or long. When teams play wide, when there is any kind of inter change or intelligent runs from deep and teams get behind the back four he literally has no idea what to do. I'd want more for my half million personally. But hey, Blackburn is a disaster club, they may well throw money at us.

I dunno, what about voting for the best goal? Actually I thought Scott Wright's goal for Aberdeen slightly edged out Moult's for the best goal scored in the Premiership at the weekend.

Heneghan is a defender with serious limitations. By all means get as much money for him as you can but if you asked me for £500,000 for him the transfer window would pass with me still laughing.

Really tough choice from that game. Kipre has been immense the whole game doing the basics and then on the other hand Louis Moult has completely turned the match round with a couple of bits of magic. Normally I think I'd go for the wee bit of magic that makes the difference but I'm going for Kipre.

As a veteran of the 80's and 90's our matches against Hearts still have a lot more needle to them for me that perhaps for younger fans so I was absolutely delighted today to send those Hearts fans home with fuck all. With the exception of the last five minutes or so when we did the usual and defended about 6 yards from the goal line, I enjoyed the match today. It was a well matched game, both teams had periods on top and the play ebbed and flowed and was played at a fair pace, albeit lacking quality a lot of the time. Overall though I thought we edged it and created more good chances to score. The overall team performance was a bit mixed - great in some areas, good in others, poor in some - but the general performance was as good as I've seen for a while. Heneghan was good today but Kipre was absolutely immense, Bowman playing has helped out Moult massively, Cadden was good as well. And Louis was the difference between a win and a defeat - created one and his goal was absolutely superb. On the down side - we were poor in the middle of the park today. McHugh has given the ball away with about 90% of his passes and Rose still has a lot to do to convince. The centre of midfield has been a real weakness this season which is odd as before the season we were probably looking at it as being a strength with McHugh and Bigirimana but both players need to improve on their showings so far. -

Great goal from Moult. He's been the difference, he was involved in the first goal as well. Too be honest I think we are a bit fortunate to be ahead, our midfield has been shocking again, McHugh has been abysmal. Hearts probably used the ball better but we've had the better chances. Bowman should have scored earlier when he only had the keeper to beat. More goals in the game I think. It's either going to be a 4-1 win or a 2-3 defeat. -

Disappointed about Campbell but disappointed about Griffiths as well. I said it at the other place, this game is a litmus test for us. If we lose to a mediocre Rangers and a mediocre Hearts in the opening stages of the season I think that pretty much puts us in our place. If we want to do anything this season these are the games we need to win. -

Taking a look at this more in depth this is a game where we have been better going forward (or at least at hitting the back of the net) whereas Hearts have been better defensively. Hearts best players have been Souttar and Berra and their midfield has not been at the races - Djoum is off form, Randall has everything still to prove, Lafferty is playing in an odd role, Walker doesn't want to be there and has done nothing for a while. So while they have potentially pretty good players there it just hasn't been happening for them in the midfield areas. I will be looking for us to really dominate this area tomorrow and to make sure Hearts stay dysfunctional in the middle of the park. If we can do that surely the worst that can happen is we get a point. McHugh and Birgirimana have a job on to make this happen and live up to the hype. -

I agree but I don't think we want to play with one upfront, we are forced to to compete in midfield. Most teams play five in the middle, with the exception of Rangers who have been playing 4-4-2 week in, week out. Hearts have actually played 4-4-2 this season so it will be interesting to see how they line up. Sometimes the difference between a 4-4-2 and a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 is fairly minimal. Goncalves will be up front but we'll need to keep an eye on what sort of positions Lafferty takes up. Apparently been drifting into the middle from a wide midfield position. Partick have done something similar with Conor Sammon, Dundee have done the same with El Bakhtaoui and of course we've done it with Fisher. Remains to be seen if managers are simply forcing players into a fashionable formation or there is some actual tactical worth to it. -
If anyone goes I think it will be Cadden. I don't think he's the greatest footballer in the world but he's got a good attitude, he's young, he's got pace and he's got a bit of bulk/strength to him. All things that, for better or worse, are prized in modern football. As good as Moult has been for us he doesn't have pace or strength, one of the reason I don't think we will ever see a lot of money for him or that'll he'll play at a level far beyond Scottish Premiership level. Heneghan is fine when the games coming towards him but I'm sure scouts will have noticed he's absolutely useless when the game goes beyond him. His defensive positioning and awareness just isn't there.

It's the epitome of the modern centre back!
