  1. Lasley looked like he was suffering in games where he was trying to do too much last season. He doesn't have the legs to play box to box, but once Pearo came in beside him last season, he began to play well. I'd definitely still sign a centre mid though, Lasley will be 36 for the vast majority of the season and I'll like to reduce the reliance on him.
  2. He was technically sixth choice. Only got in the squad due to McGregor, Gilks and Bain pulling out/being unavailable.
  3. If we are getting statistical Steelboy, Skippy scored 5 in 13 games last season. In those thirteen games, Erwin scored 5 of his 6 last season as well.
  4. I consider Josh Law a very steady right back and I think he done very well when moved there last season, after showing more endeavour than quality when played in midfield. I'd quite like to see Watt given a chance as our second choice right back as I think he showed great promise when he played on the wrong side last season. I'm not a Reid fan, but wasting a wage on a right back when you have the above two plus him is madness. If both right backs were injured- I wouldn't be devastated at having to use Reid for a short time. Add to that, rate him or not, we have given Ferguson a new deal and although a midfielder, Cadden played his first full season in the 20s at right back. It's the area in the squad that we have the most depth. When you have more right backs who have appeared in the first team than you do central midfielders then I think signing a right back is way, way down on the list of priorities.
  5. Why do people want another right back? We have four players who's best position is right back.....
  6. Having seen photos of him now, I'm fairly certain it was him who came to meet 'Flow and Baraclough as I was buying my season ticket on Saturday.
  7. Sorry for comparing goalscoring records of two relevant centre forwards on a transfer thread....I'll know better next time.
  8. I think reading this thread, despairing is an appropriate word for some reactions. So if you are allowed an opinion, am I not allowed mine if it counters yours? Considering I didn't even give mine- I think he'll be a decent signing and squad player- like Sutton was latterly last season- but I'd be slightly underwhelmed if he was our first choice.
  9. For all those despairing over the loss of Sutton and the signing of Clarkson, Clarky actually had a far better goals to games and goals to starts ratio last season.
  10. I was also there, I thought he looked too small to be a centre back or a keeper, but his agent was a rather large fella, so I don't know if that was just in comparison.
  11. I hope we sign Kerr too. He had a few terrific games when he first came in and looked very promising. But then somehow after he had a couple of poor games (Rangers and Hibs, when everyone was shite) and then it seemed some of the experts in our support started a 'Kerr is shite' bandwagon. Every young player is bound to make mistakes when they first come in.
  12. Aye, pretty much played right back his entire career before he came to us. If anything centre half is new to him!
  13. If Hateley goes, McCall might replace him with a centre half and play Ramsden at right back.
  14. If we managed to get McManus without breaking our wage structure it would be a terrific signing.
  15. I wouldn't put that down to transfers. A team of Fraser, Saunders, Craigan, Reynolds, Hammell, Lasley, Forbes, Murphy, McGarry, O'Brien and Sutton should have comfortably beaten Llanelli.
  16. It's still only June! When Gannon had his big rebuilding job, his first signing (excluding Michael Fraser, who McGhee signed) was Jennings in the middle of July and that was after we had played our first two competitive games. Have faith that everything will come into place before August 1st, there is still six weeks to go and we've already signed two players of decent reputation and quality.
  17. I wasn't Sutton's number one fan in his first spell at the club, but one think you can't accuse him of is being lazy. Infact, I'd go as far to say he was the complete opposite, probably to the detriment of his game.
  18. I thought it all added up for Lee Miller to come to us. I'm led to believe he commutes to Carlisle from Wishaw and his after he sadly lost his wife last year, I thought moving to us would have made things easier for him with his kids. That might still go in our favour.
  19. Some decent mentions apart from the guy who moaned he couldn't hear Jeff Stelling on Skygo becuase of the drum. Why would you want to watch Soccer Saturday if you were at a game?
  20. One thing I'm surprised at is that Fraser Kerr has signed the terms we've offered him yet. I thought that would be just a formality.
  21. Not to mention his half arsed attempt at sticking the nut on Whittaker!
  22. I still don't think Clancy was anything special. He was too prone to errors and losing the nut at the turn of the hat. Better off with Ramsden I think.
  23. Athens was a dive of a place. At least in Motherwell, Wishaw, Bellshill etc the junkies give you the courtesy of shooting up in alleys or somewhere else a little more private. In Athens you had to put up with watching people shoot up while you were waiting on a bus in the afternoon. There were also a crazy amount of stray dogs which often followed you about. For me, Athens was a great trip and a great experience, due to the fact it was a trip to see Motherwell in the Champion's League and I got a good booze with my mates, but I would never return for something that wasn't football! In terms of putting up a fight in Europe, we probably are victims of our own success in that department. The European jaunts under Brown and Gannon were a result of finishing fifth and through fair play, so we entered early on and faced lesser opposition. Although getting beaten by the margins we did last season wasn't great but there was no shame in it. I'd probably say getting beat 1-0 off Llanelli at home was far worse than a 0-5 aggregate against Panathanaikos. Odense will always be the biggest missed opportunity for me. Realistically, that is probably the closest we'll get to the group stage. As far as I can remember, I watched that draw and thought we had got the least reputable team in that pot. I'm sure we could have got Villareal or Man City so Odense gave us a good chance. They weren't much better than us in either leg and I only wonder what would have happened had Murphy not missed his penalty and the other chance which sticks out for me- one where Blackman weakly headed straight at the keeper when he had time to bring the ball down, smoke a cigar and put it in.
  24. Clarkson would be a fantastic signing for us. He scored seven last season, so your facts must be "only a rumour".
  25. If we were going for a left sided player released by St. Mirren I'd rather take Graham Carey. That said, I don't know if either would be a fanstastic signing.
