I think you are way off the mark there Lobey. The fact that Sheffield United pinched one of our best products of recent years for £110,000 shows the gap in the resources between the clubs. A small fee, but one we could never afford to pay these days but at the same time a small fee but one we can't afford to turn down. You also have to factor in the fact that he has already definitely lost two of the players that gave him great success this season and could lose another four. That's all before you mention the affinity he has for Sheffield United, having ended his playing days there and started his coaching career. You wouldn't have been able to blame him too much, even if he went down with the "where do I sign?" attitude, but he didn't. He went down, listened to what they had to offer, evaluated it and realised he had a better thing going at Motherwell, I respect that. I too am looking forward to next season as well. Hopefully we will get one or two of the departing players signed up but there is something fresh about turning up for the new season and seeing a new look to the team. I do find it no surprise that steelboy is talking Paul Lawson down before a ball has been kicked!

Hateley's agent is Trevor Steven, but any time you hear of him speak of contracts or transfers he always says "My dad and my agent Trevor Steven". To be honest, I wouldn't be heartbroken if he left. He's been incredibly consistent for us in his time here, but for perhaps a small blip this season, but I think he's the most replaceable of all of those we could stand to lose. To add to that, I'm not a massive fan of the persona he gives off. If Hateley does go, we could replace him directly or we could sign another centre back and play Ramsden in his more recognised position of right back, so it gives us flexibility in that respect too.

Scott Arfield has been released by Huddersfield. Could do worse than look at him.
-
I'd say who of Higginbotham and McHugh starts is down to if he is going to make any attempt to sign Higginbotham. If he's not then it would make sense to give Bob McHugh a game, who will be here next year.

Player of the Year: 1. Michael Higdon- Speaks for itself, range of goals in terms of left, right and head and range of goals in terms of tap ins, converting crosses, cute finishes and last week's long range effort. Scored consistently over the season as well. How any of our fans gave him stick in the past is just completely ludicrous. 2. Nicky Law- Positional change was nae bother for him. Probably flourished more in centre to be honest, despite the fact last season I'd definitely have said his best position was the left. Great creative force, brilliant at picking passes and never panics in possession. 3. Darren Randolph- You can't underestimate how much a good goalkeeper is worth to you, especially when at times we've compromised the defensive side of our game. Our next keeper won't be as good, we can be sure of that. Young Player Of The Year: Henrik Ojamaa- Very unlucky not to make my top three. On paper you may question why a forward who has only scored four goals is being rated so highly, but the highest amount of assists in the league and his general all round play have been the catalyst for so many of our goals. Goal of the Season: In terms of sheer technicality, I'd say Higginbotham's against Hibs, but big shout outs need to go to Higdon's two at Tannadice, Law's 2nd at Dens, both of Faddy's and Ojamaa's against Kilmarnock. Signing of the Season: McFadden. A class above and we've still to lose a game in which he has started. You wonder what effect a full season with him could have had.

Along the same lines as numpty ,although I'm only 23, I now only buy the strips which I really like (of the current three, I only have the blue away). I won't be buying this one, not a fan of the collar or the sleeves at all. The shorts and socks are cracking. I wish that we had used the 125th anniversary kit as a home kit (with a small sponsor logo added, reluctantly) with those shorts and socks at some point. I don't think that top will ever be matched. It's a tough job pleasing everyone though!

Sutton had a decent goalscoring record but in many games he just aimlessly ran about. Higdon may seem "lazier" to the naive football fan, but in truth he's actually just wiser, with better positioning and uses his mobility more effectively.
-
Exactly. By "do a job" I meant thinking of next season when we may not have McFadden, Humphrey, Higginbotham or even Law to play in wide positions and we don't have sufficient budget to replace them with players of the same calibre. He did net 8 times last season in the SPL from midfield for a very poor side, although I do see he has only scored three times this season.
-
Gallacher has already signed for Ross County. Andy Dowie and Jordan McMillan have signed for Partick Thistle. Cardle was made redundant and hasn't signed for anyone, of what I have seen he might do a decent job for us.
-
Owen Coyle is 1 cap/0 goals I'm sure.
-
Ojamaa has twelve assists already this season, with thirteen games to go in the season. Last season Steve Davis got 13 over the course of the season and that was the most. There are still twelve games remaining. Your views on football are incredibly short sighted.

I think that's only league goals being considered there. Porter scored 18 all competitions in 07/08 and Faddy 19 in 02/03. Today's performance was very sound. Biggest difference for me was midfield. Playing Carswell as an actual holding midfielder worked wonders and allowed Law to play to his creative strengths. If this combination works on Tuesday night, I'd be leaving Lasley on the bench next Saturday against Ross County. Just to show him when he shows a lack of professionalism and gets sent off like he did, that he's not an automatic return.
-
Francis-Angol for Lasley would be my only change, playing a straight forward 4-4-2.
-
I think our offer to Faddy in the summer benefited both parties. Would obviously be delighted if he signed, but I'm not convinced. As regards the Reynolds/Craigan situation, people always have done and will continue to play down how important a player Craigan was for us. Take any period in his second spell where he was out the team for a prolongued period of time and we never done particularly well, aside from the end of last season with Clancy/Hutchy for a bit, despite the fact Clancy was a bit error prone.
-
Apart from if the player didn't deserve to be sent off, I'd also applaud a player if him getting sent off was beneficial to the team. See Page's red card against Hibs last season for an example of that. Other than that, naw!

I'm not going to make a cast iron judgement on this until I've seen the footage on the TV. However, IF it is the wild lunge that it is being made out to be, then strangely I'll find myself agreeing with Steelboy for the second time in quick succession. I'm a big fan of Lasley and his work here for the last thirteen years and it takes a lot for me to criticise him but if you are down to ten men already, losing a match 2-0 with a minute to go, your captain should simply know better, set a better example and be more professional than to put a wild lunge in. You do see captains behave in such a manner, a la Lee Cattermole or Joey Barton as recent examples, but it doesn't make it acceptable. I won't say any more until I have seen the footage.
-
For once, I'd agree with you there MJC. Our team does have flaws, but in comparison to the sides around us, we've definitely got a squad capable of competing.
-
Don't know how to take Randolph's article to be honest. I can think of an ex-manager of his who could offer him minimized travelling, first team football and a bit of a wage rise.....
-
So given all that, were you truly amazed when we had an offer of a 2 year deal on the table to Ryan Stevenson?
-
On that topic- it's disappointing to see today that Ryan Fraser is departing Aberdeen for Bournemouth for three times what we got for Murphy as they feared losing him in the summer and only getting £250,000 in compensation. Makes me think we must have had significant cashflow problems to accept £110,000 for Murphy. Surely a guy who has hit double figures four seasons on the trot and made his first team debut seven seasons ago is worth more in compensation than a guy who has played 15 games?
-
My thoughts exactly, he could be a Blackman/Jutkiewicz type or he could be a McGlinchey/Aydilek type, but unless he's given a chance we'll never though. Noticed Scott Burns saying on twitter that McCall doesn't expect anyone in or out for the rest of the window.
-
I thought he peaked in FM11. Sign him for buttons from admin Dundee, 20 goals a season from midfield! Regards St. Johnstone, I had forgotten they had signed Craig Beattie until I saw the other day he's on trial at a club down south. I assumed he had been injured since he signed, reasonable assumption with his past record, but if he's on trial elsewhere he must not be. He'll be on a good couple of grand a week, that's a lot of money to spare on a guy who's not in the team. Mind you, after typing that sentence, I realised we have Omar Daley.
-
If there was money to bring in Ryan Stevenson, but he rejected us and now on top of this we have sold Murphy and have Page's wages freed up, there is surely scope to bring someone in and McCall did suggest it in his post match interview after Celtic. Heard strong whispers a few months ago that Axel Bossekota, the Belgian trialist, was set to sign in January as he would then come without compensation, but if that was the case you'd think it would have been a formality that he would have been with us by now.
-
To be fair, the club's own scoreboard spells it Tom Hately every week also.
-
Resigning Daley would never make sense. He's a waste of a jersey, the pitiful amount of effort he puts in means I'd sooner have an enthusiastic member of the under 20s squad in the team before him.
