  1. Until we can't overtake anyone and no-one can over take us, we should play a full strength team. Nothing against Fraser, he fared more than well today. But the way this season could pan out the difference between fourth and fifth, and fifth and sixth could be more than usual. Whereas last season, I think after the split we could only have mathematically dropped one place, so giving the likes of Hutchinson a bigger run wouldn't have been a bad idea.
  2. I think the football is over-priced if I am perfectly honest but never to the point where I would consider not going. I am now onto my thirteenth season ticket, been going since I was six and can't imagine Saturdays without it to be honest. But at the same time it comes at a cost to me, I'm a working 20 year old with no real ties, so it's not like going to the football takes money from a more worthwhile cause, others would be unable to justify it. I do think the current game suits the armchair fan down to a tee. When I started going to the games in season 1996/97, there was only one game of football on the radio, two if you were lucky. Other than that the only way of keeping up with the game was through an unanimated Ceefax. Now you can listen to any game online, and there is Soccer Saturday and leaked games on the internet. Don't get me wrong I'd much rather go to an unnamed local pub to watch us play at Parkhead than fork £28 out, but this day and age is killing attendances. Since I started going the attendances have gone down and the prices have gone up, the prices probably reflecting the club trying to compensate for the loss of numbers but either way it's a lose-lose situation.
  3. If he's still growing, he will be some fucking size when he stops!

    Hearts

Going for Jennings although it could easily have been Lasley, O'Brien, Sutton or Jutkiewicz.
  5. Was very pleased today. Great victory against those aswell as a terrific performance. O'Brien, Jennings and Sutton were all highly effective today. Some of the football we played given the pitch was great. Will be interesting to see our disallowed goal on the tv......
  6. When people say McGeady is worth over 10 million, you have to ask yourself would you pay that for Liam Lawrence of Stoke who consistently keeps him out of the Ireland team? I think not.

    Steve Jennings

Get him signed up pronto. He has been fantastic since Craig Brown took over and has a bit of midfield terrier about whilst also having a considerable amount of ability. Would definitely welcome him as captain when Crags' hangs up his boots!
  8. Jim Gannon in my opinion is a very good coach, I use the term coach because I think he was unable to "manage" our team. His eye for a player can't be doubted, ok Moutouakil was absolutely rotten, but other than that his signings were good. I know rumours are rumours, but by the end of his tenure you had began to hear about him ostracising just about every player. His treatment of Stephen Craigan was dispicable. In my opinion of all the times I saw him play under Gannon, he only was terrible against St. Mirren away in the cup. Hooking him at half time in games like St. Johnstone and Accies were terrible, especially when our defending suffered as a result. The way he threw away the Celtic game with his poor decisions did it for me. Meechan was out of his depth and Pollock looked like a wee boy scared. And the way Craig Brown deals with the press, and how humble he is with his achievements blows Gannon's arrogance and condescendence out the window.

John Sutton for me. Great performance at both ends. Glad he has made me eat humble pie of late.
  10. Have to say I agree with you there Geedub, that monotonal sound in the first half was brutal. Great three points today. Not many stand out performances, just a battling display. I'd agree with BBC for the MOTM. Sutton was great in the air today, his hold up play was tremendous, and there were a few set pieces in the first half I doubt we could have defended without him. Those who know me will know it took a lot to say that! Also, Murphy chipping in with another goal was good to see, and Jutkiewicz lifted the whole team when he came on, it's a nice dilemma to have all three of them performing! Jennings also had another good game, he takes no prisoners! Long may this continue! Also, Thomson booking Forbes at the end was a ridiculous decision if you ask me, how can refereeing like that be FIFA standard?
  11. For me, the best four Scottish centre-halves on ability are Caldwell, McManus, Berra and Webster. Had Andy Webster stayed injury-free he would be getting a game weekly for Rangers just now and I believe he will next season. I think McManus has been a fantastic player for Scotland, and has maybe had a bit of a dip in form but I challenge anyone not to playing in Tony Mowbray's circus. More or less the same of Caldwell, but he had a fantastic season last year. And Berra is playing week in, week out in the Premiership and coping, that speaks for itself!
  12. For me, our shape has been a deciding factor in our resurgent form under Craig Brown. The fact that when you look at our back four now they are in the shape of a back four. Craigan's experience has also been a key factor. There was always to much an element of risk in Gannon's team, in every game, now they seem to defend in the right areas, pass in the right areas, attack in the right areas, and the team seem to be enjoying the football far more!
  13. +1. The thing that I like about the beautiful game is variety. Games in the summer on bowling greenesque pitches can be played with great passing, moving football, whereas winter football can show gritty back to front games, where the determination is more handy than skill. If we went to an artificial surface we could say goodbye to hearty slide tackles and players lasting into their mid thirties. Keep the grass.
  14. Without a doubt one of Motherwell's best players since I've been attending games. He was absolutely tremendous during Terry Butcher's spell, the first season of administration he was a great player in a fairly average at best season. Always conducted himself brilliantly on and off the field, could count in your hands the amount of times he was booked, never heard of any off field antics. And contrary to what's above I'm fairly sure he signed the contract before he got injured? If my memory serves me correctly, he had signed the deal before he got injured- which was in the last game of the season against Dundee United. Who knows if he'd been better had Malpas not rushed him back, but I think at that point Malpas was prepared to use anything that might slightly improve the team, it was a shame to see him a shadow of his former self and when he left Paul Quinn was definitely the better fit for right back, but I do believe he could still have done a job at times, and a true legends departure was, quite rightly might I add, overshadowed by all that was going on at the time.
  15. Was very pleased with this performance today. The fact we have only conceded one goal in 2010 is a fantastic statistic. Brown has made our team so compact, the back four look safe as houses, and Jennings and Lasley infront of them are solid aswell. I know I've been John Sutton's biggest critic in the past, but I'll eat humble pie today, he was terrific up top, as was Murphy. And I also find it no coincidence that in Craigan's entire spell at Motherwell, the two times he has been out of the team, upon his return we have had a complete turn around in form. If we can win 1-0 every week, I'll be a happy man. We did get out of jail with the passback though, I think it was an interception, but the ref was right to give it as where else exactly could have Craigan been hoping his interception ended up?

    Hibernian

Went for Jennings, he got stuck in, broke up everything they tried to start and basically controlled the midfield. Him and Lasley together in the centre has far more dig than anything Gannon ever put out. Special mentions to Sutton and Murphy too.

    McGlinchey?

I can see where dewell is coming from to be honest. I don't think he can offer us anything Murphy or McHugh can't. I obviously am not judging him on his half hour on Saturday, but I'm sure I read somewhere he failed to impress on a trial at a First Division club just before he went out to Australia. I just don't see it being that beneficial. If he is brilliant I will eat humble pie obviously.
  18. I don't think Gary Mac did, he was injured at 98. I'm too young to remember (given I was three months old) if he played at 90!
  19. Although not something I agree with, is benefit of the doubt not supposed to lie with the forward?

    Dls To Stenny

    2nd division. Promoted last year!
  21. Yes but he wasn't a Motherwell player. Was a Celtic player by then. If I remember correctly Tommy Coyne is the only player to play at a World Cup while serving Motherwell. Don't know if you'll be able to add McGlinchey to that because his loan will have expired.
  22. Feels like a defeat! That's both home games have felt like two points dropped. I try not to be critical of refs but that was a shocker. The ref didn't force Reynolds to make that mistake but it would have been a very different game at 2-0. Although Jim O'Brien was the standout player, old boys Craigan and Lasley were tremendous, Craigan's most composed performance for a long time! Jennings was terrific too.
  23. I think his explosive start was a double-edged sword. I think as highlighted the technical side of his game is far better than the athletic side, but lets face it we'd be doing well if he kept his early season form up. Don't think he suits a 4-4-2 as well as he did a 4-5-1 but I definitely think he has the quality to bounce back if he works hard.

    Mark Fitzpatrick

Can't say I agree with that. For me Keith Lasley's mobility is one of his strong points, he may not be lightning quick but he covers every blade. Fitzpatrick isn't too bad a player, but he's played hide and seek one too many times.
  25. Not the best game or derby by any stretch but a fantastic result. Five clean sheets in a row is something that can't be argued with, every good team should be built from the back. Thought the team battled well without playing good football today, which I can live with. This is the most comfortable I've been with who's in charge for some time.
