Derby, Cardiff and Bristol City linked with Turnbull today. Having watched a fair bit of Derby recently, I think this would be the perfect move for him at this stage in his development. He’d fit nicely into Lampard’s style of play.

Wigan secured championship survival with a win over Preston, I wonder if there are any related add-ons in the Kipre deal. Moult came on as a late sub.

Good luck to Hastie at Rangers, should that be his chosen destination. It’s disappointing to lose him at this stage but you can’t blame any talented youngster moving to a bigger club if they have a genuine shot at first team action. I’m now more interested in seeing who will be the next youth product to nail their spot in the first team as I don’t envisage Scott, Maguire and Livingston being regulars. I’ve only seen Semple for Scotland youth teams and that was some time ago, is he the hottest prospect for 2019/20?

Dom Thomas scores his 15th of the season.

Not for the first time, we are being linked with Liam Polworth. Scott Burns the source, indicating St Johnstone and Hamilton are also interested. I didn’t see the semi at the weekend but generally whenever I see Inverness on the tv, Polworth catches the eye. Suspect he would be a replacement for Cadden.

There is a real chance of Turnbull generating a record transfer fee for Motherwell. In order for this to materialise however, he needs to stay with us until at least Dec 19 and prove his ability against the bigger teams. Sadly though, I can see numerous clubs making offers in the summer that may prove too tempting for player and club. As an aside, if he’s determined to have a strong end to the season, he may have an outside chance of making the Scotland squad for Cyprus/Belgium double header in June given the inevitable calls offs.

2018/19 Game 33: Rangers (H) April 7th 12.30pm Kick Off

Slightly surprised we haven’t heard anything yet. There must be reasoning for it. Do we have any suspended penalties hanging over us following the Rangers playoff? -

Glad I stayed in the house as the players have been content to go through the motions today. Hopefully it’s a wake up call for those that want to move onto bigger and better things. Two or three are talented enough to do so but they’ve failed to perform in front of the cameras today. The three goals so far have been absolute gifts from us trying to play football. Important we learn from today and strike the right balance going forward. -
We’ll have offered Cadden better terms then he is already on to secure compensation. In terms of form and career progression, his injury can’t at a real unfortunate time. It will be interesting to see what his options are, will an English club be willing to pay the previously reported £600k? I was previously of the view that he had to move for his own career development. Given how Robinson has transferred the team since Christmas though, the prospect of Cadden playing in an attacking role alongside Campbell and Turnbull is an enticing one. Would be nice to have the three of them together for a year, unlikely though.

Good luck to Hastie, I think it’s a good move for a young exciting talent that has the natural attributes to develop quickly. Now is not the right time in his development for moving south as he’d be in the reserves so Ibrox is a sensible destination. Rangers attaching options other than Morelos are far from brilliant so he has a good chance of getting in the team on a fairly regular basis. With a bit of luck, he’ll have a good season and make his way into the Scotland squad. Talk of £14k a week though? Surely not. Either way, I hope Rangers are dignified enough to pay the statutory compensation without a need for a tribunal.

Not in my opinion. His memory has been all over the place for some time sadly.

McLeish and McFadden must both be sacked this weekend. One has clearly been unwell for some time while the other is not sufficiently qualified as a coach.

Aldred and Turnbull.

2018/19 Game 27: Celtic (A) Sunday 24th February 3.00pm Kick Off

Ewan Henderson starting makes me nervous. I’ve said before, the latest Celtic kid on the block has a tendency to score against us with Mickey Johnson the most recent examples. Fingers crossed, Turnbull, Campbell, Hastie and Scott shine for us on the big stage. When you add in Tierney, Forrest and Christie, today could be a great advert for the future of the national team. Hope we can make a game of it. -
2018/19 game 25: St Mirren (A) Wednesday 6th February

Just watched the highlights. Brilliant goals, an unbelievable strike from Hastie and a well executed move for the 2nd. Great to see our young ones click. If they continue at this rate, all three will go on to have excellent careers. Just a shame we don’t have a cup run to get excited about. -
Cadden is a big Celtic fan according to Trevor Carson on a recent Open Goal podcast. Not that it matters, he’s immersed himself in the club just like Lasley and Hammell.
-
He’s only signed with Hibs until the end of the season. I suspect he’s been pushed out the door. Given his apparent technical ability, Bigi is a player I always wanted to get a chance but unfortunately whenever he got his opportunity, he never really made the most of it. All the best to him at Hibs. Shame we couldn’t have talked someone into taking Hartley too.

Brilliant news on Turnbull, such a special talent. The fact he appears to be a genuine Motherwell fan adds to the enjoyment of watching him progress. Well done to all involved in getting this deal done. Hastie next hopefully.

2018/19 Game 22: Hibernian (H) Wednesday 23rd January

Tonight we had a team to be proud of and that goal will go down as one of the highlights of the season. There’s nothing better than seeing young talented boys take their opportunity. Fingers crossed we can get the contracts sorted out so that we see Campbell, Turnbul and Hastings combine for at least one season. Credit to Robinson for making the changes tonight. I’m no sure what he was thinking ahead of the Ross County game but tonight thankfully brings a degree of optimism. -

One of the most interesting elemenys of following Motherwell this season is making sense of the starting lineup. There will no doubt be a few changes. Robinson will hopefully realise that Dunne isn’t a left back, Johnson is largely useless outside the box, Turnbull isn’t ready to play deep, Hartley looks done, McCormack is nowhere near ready and we need to play a midfield three. I don’t think we’ve beaten Hibs since their return to the top flight and it’s hard to see it changing tomorrow. Odds of 7/5 for an away win are tempting. Having said that, if Campbell and Grimshaw, it would at least provide a little hope. Will be interesting to see if Ryan Gauld still has a knack for ripping us apart. -
Wouldn’t surprise me if true but presumably Robinson was looking for a payoff. Otherwise, why would the club reject it? We’ve made that mistake before with McCall.
-
Robinson has had an admirable habit of getting a result or two when the pressure has been on. However, he shouldn’t get the opportunity to do so again. He’s always been a manager of limited ability but his dedication has took him a fair way. Unfortunately, he’s ran out of ideas and the players are no longer responding to his training methods. Time for change.
-
The starting lineup seemed to be well received on social media but I couldn’t get me head round it. For a manager who favours a conservative 352 to go with a balls out 424, it struck me Robinson had ran out of ideas and/or was showing disrespect to the opposition. It proved to be both! Where were Campbell and Grimshaw? How the fuck could we expect to ‘win the battle’ with a midfield 2 of McHugh and Turnbull? As poor as we’ve been for the last 12 months, a tricky Scottish cup tie is not the time for experimenting or pinning your hopes on a new striker that is miles away from being fit. If it weren’t for keeping an eye on the progress of the likes of Turnbull, Campbell, Cadden and hopefully Hastie, I don’t think I’d bother going back this season. We are a horrible fucking team to watch. Having watched the brilliant Steelmen last night, the one bright spot from today is that some of the clowns in our current team will never fluke their way to being mentioned in the same breath as proper hero’s that possessed real quality and desire.

All the best to McManus. He split opinion as a player, partly due to expectations, but he was a very good servant to the club and central to some memorable performances. He’ll no doubt be linked with the managers post at Fir Park in the years to come. If Lee McCulloch is interested, I’d be happy with that. Think a youth team role would suit him well.
