Is he that much of a different player? Maybe lost a little pace but he was never the fastest. I'd struggle to say whether he was better now or then. He got pelters from some of our support first time round too iirc but much of that is forgotten.
-
Favourite is probably the wrong word but he seems to be one of the trusted ones. He plays week in week out despite being at fault for numerous goals. Agree that it's not just McGhee that's played him regularly, although that maybe says more about our recent managers and the inability to find a competent right back since the much maligned Tom Hateley moved on.

Scott McDonald has been awful? I don't get that at all. He was the best player on the park for 5/6 games on the trot at the turn of year. While his form has dipped, primarily due to being left upfront on his own, he continues to run himself into the ground. McManus signed for Motherwell because it was convenient to where he stays. Those who employ him take the blame there. Pearson has been poor last few weeks but iirc played through an injury at Dundee or Thistle and it looks to still be the case. The main issue I have with players revolves around the selection policy at times whereby your likelihood of getting dropped depends on whether you are a McGhee favourite. The out of depth Josh Law being the prime example.

Recent weeks would suggest we need to go back to basics. Over time a 433 could work but I think we have to go back to getting the best out of Moult and McDonald by playing 442. Gomes had a nightmare against Killie but I like the idea of him and Lasley forging a partnership, with Cadden and Johnson either side. The defence seems a shambles whatever the personnel but I think an opportunity for Luke Watt is long overdue. Huge game.

Has to be Ripley. Of the others, only Johnson, Skippy, Cadden and Thomas approached pass marks.

So nobody should take responsibility for a terrible appointment?

In terms of finances, momentum and leadership, the club is in bother. Has been for a couple of years now.

The prospect of McGhee returning to the club should never have entered the minds of the clowns that recommended him to Les. As a club we were well versed in his flaws and should have stayed well clear. We are in real bother now as we are left in the lurch with a manager that few people like, a manager that is tactically inferior to Lee McCulloch and a manager that has visibly drained the confidence out of some of our players. I can't see us winning for the foreseeable future yet I suspect it will be some time until we part company with McGhee. When he does go however, he shouldn't be the only one.

Whoever recommended McGhee to the owner should be getting the bullet. This was never going to work.

Like the look of the team today, just need to get the right shape.

I enjoyed that McManus interview.

Boy that set up the Peterborough goal then missed the pen is a relation of Zaine's.

Would love to see Simo get a chance in Scottish football but like us, it would be helluva risk for Killie to take him on in their current predicament.

Unsubstantiated Rumour Regarding Administration
Lobey_Dosser replied to walking down the Fir Park's topic in Club Chat
If it were to happen it would be on the say-so of Les. Not going to happen given how much he cares about the local community. -
Two players that the majority of us were delighted to sign-on in the summer. They haven't had a fair crack under McGhee,
-
It's nothing to do with sensitivity. Good managers rarely criticise their own players in public unless it's to produce a reaction. Criticising the likes of Laing and Ainsworth, two of our better players, and then freezing them out is of no benefit to Motherwell.
-
Its not took McGhee long to lose the plot this time around. How many of our players has he now criticised publicly? Kennedy, Laing, Ainsworth and Moult? As for the Higdon chat then if we have pondered this for more than 2 seconds, then it is sheer incompetence on behalf of the club. More worryingly, McGhee seems to want a big striker to suit his long ball tactics.

Motherwell V The Rangers Spfl Playoff Final 2Nd Leg 31/05/15

I might be in the minority here but the 1st leg at Ibrox for me was the highlight. When Ainsworths 3rd hit the net, oof. Folk just hugging each other and laughing at half time in the toilets -
I'm assuming no recall option would have been allowed on the Gomis loan? Hearts seem to have a bit of an injury/suspension crisis.

Motherwell V The Rangers Spfl Playoff Final 2Nd Leg 31/05/15

Been fairly pissed off with Motherwell the last few days but this fair cheers me up. They're all still hurting. -
There is no question we are a better team than the Baraclough days but the Tynecastle result and performance appears to have spooked McGhee and possibly the players. At the time I thought we would respond to the 6-0 result quite strongly but instead our confidence has been thread-bare. We've went from a team that went toe to toe at Pittodrie and Parkhead to a team that tries to almost contain/nullify mediocre opposition. Indeed at one point last year McGhee said he spent little time on the training ground coaching defending because he wants to play attacking football and make the most of his squad. So it is time for him to return to his original ethos because with Pearson, Skippy, Johnson, Ainsworth and Moult at our disposal in addition to young Cadden breaking through, we should be blowing teams away in this league. To be fair to McGhee, he could argue that this isn't his team and he possibly didn't get the backing he was promised in January. However, for us to persevere with a man of his ego in the long run, I think we need a positive run that sees us well clear of relegation bother by the time we hit the split.

Watched the first half at Ibrox today and thought Kilmarnock were half decent. With a new manager likely to have arrived, who knows what that will add to their game. With Pearson being suspended for the trip to Tannadice it's vital we win here. I'm sure we will though given our extended preparations.

There would be a lot more folk 'in the know' aware of the situation if Administration was a distinct and imminent possibility. However, should Admin ever comes to pass under the current regime then a few die-hard 'well fans should be ran out of town.

Poisonous is admittedly the wrong word but there is a sense of something untoward in recent years. Reckless spending, numerous off-field appointments that have failed, poor preparation of squad for Starjnan season, the questionable transfer of ownership, the farce that is the Well Society and failure of the team to turn up for cup games time after time after time.
