I thought for about a 15 min period in the first half, we looked OK going forward. Fadinger was playing the role that Priestman/Watt would have played, moving Hodge out of the way and we build from the back again for a short period, but I'm not sure how Hodge fits into all this. He can't play the 'Watt' role, that's for sure. Outside that short period we were just a mess. I can't see what we're trying to do. There's no patterns of play (other than out to Sparrow and backwards again). There's no proper press and no proper off the ball movement. Something to think about that we haven't looked decent on the ball out of defence since wee Oscar got injured. Looks like a team that doesn't actually know what it's meant to be doing.

I'd have had SOD at RB and either G-R or K-L in beside Moorman, possibly Levitt instead of Hodge. I wonder if our commentator today will have actually read the team sheet and get Palmer-Holden's name right....

I don't see it as 'wanting the manager to fail' but more about how we seem to be going backwards. Our strengths last years stemmed from a back four who could play the ball comfortably with cool heads and a defensive midfield that had the movement and energy to create space for the back four to play out through the press. We should still have the players to do that but we pass sideways, progressing backwards until someone eventually launches it. The more attacking midfielders bunched in with the defensive mids when out of possession to hunt the ball down, often breaking down attacks before they even happened. A lot of what we did last year was pretty simple but just done well. This year, the longer it goes on and the more time we have in training the worse it gets. We were a disorganised mess today, following on from some pretty inept performances against Stenny, Aberdeen and Dundee. I think people are worried (and surprised) about the speed we're going backwards at. If you look like you've got a system and it doesn't work out sometimes, that's one thing, but when you look like no one knows what they're doing, that's a major concern.

Pretty much saved me a post there mate. Thanks 🙂 Sparrow and his constant turning back has been a major factor in us not being able to get forward. Before the team was announced I'd have expected SOD to replace Sparrow and Knight-Lebel to replace Girdwood Reich. Vogt starting was just a joke. The attacking up the right all the time with one player who is neither a RB or an attacking midfielder and one player who isn't even a player was a tragic piece of management. Not using Longelo the way he should be is criminal and the defensive midfield not moving like they did last year (off the ball) is worrying. We've also stopped trying to move quickly at free kicks and throw ins. I could go on all day.......looks like The Swedish kettlewell has learned nothing during the break.

Having 11 players on the park seems to have improved things a little.

I'm not sure what AJ has done since the Dundee Utd game, but we are utter gash. This 'the first thing you think of is to go back the way' is awful. The consensus seemed to be that 'we'd get the ball forward quicker' this season. We don't we go back constantly, especially anything that goes anywhere near Sparrow. Unless we're going to start shooting from midway inside our own half, we're not going anywhere..

Exactly. We're good at getting the ball up to the edge of their box but then the endless tippy tappy passes around until we lose it are ineffective at best.
