Is this different from the BBC then ? Do we have to get players names correct ?? More importantly, how much does it pay and can I jump ship to Sky after three months ?? (I am Mark McGhee)
-
If you look back at 'Well teams (I started watching them in 73-74 ish but this will apply long before that), every generation of the team had a player that everyone disliked. When I started I think it was Pat Gardner but more recently (90's) most folk moaned like fuck about Ian Angus (and promptly forgot about hating him when he scored in the '91 Final) and everyone who sat around me moaned about Jamie Dolan (though I suspect few would now)probably in the same way folk now moan about Fitzy. The thing is, the manager must see something in these players. Angus and Dolan racked up a few games between them and Tommy Mc was pretty pleased to take Dolan off our hands to Dumpdee Utd. Some players have to do jobs that don't exactly cover them in glory for the good of the team. It amazes me that fans can't see that sometimes The '95 - '96 team the TMc created and McGingerBaws dismantled had a lot of good solid pros in and a couple of 'names' like Coyne but it was a formidable team. I spoke to McCart when he opened my shop and he told me that, that year, the team picked itself and they went out on to the park expecting to win. There were still players in that team that people moaned about

Seems you really don't like him As for having him in the team ahead of Reynolds (a few posts up), Shannon was a right back FFS.....signed by TMcL in his last season as manager. Anyone who has followed the 'Well for more than 5 mins will remember that in the Hamsters last season, the team line up always started with Dykstra, Shannon, McKinnon, Krivokapic, McCart, Martin.........that was one of the most dependable defensive line ups in the bleedin' league (with good attacking potential up the flanks) and Shannon was part of that. Do you reckon the departure of Shannon and the introduction of Eddie May in that position improved matters ????

Can;t believe some of the shit on this thread :-) Andy Dornan ? (Sold to somewhere in England, kept the club afloat at the time) Howerd Sameroff ? (half dozen appearences at the end of a season with 60% shut outs) Kia Nysonnen ? (scored a goal live on sky to put us top of the league) Countless others that I can't be arsed going through. If people think Kampmann was the worst manager 'Well manager ever, then they need to look back a bit. We had a shite team when he took over 2/3 of the way through a season and we stayed up. When the new season started, things didn't go tits up until that little c**t nevin appeared. We've had a load of miles worse managers over the years Roger Hynd (excluding his first five weeks), Bobby Watson, Ally McLeod and the incredible Jock Wallace who got rid of some of our best players because they were tims (while telling the papers they were 'lazy')

That was the first game I ever went to without my da'. Remember seeing BMcL in the warm up and being chuffed we'd signed him. He was a regular in the BBC highlights scoring screeeeemers for Ayr. Also, if I remember correctly we'd lost Vic Davidson (I may be wrong about that bit) and McLauchlin had Davidson's ability on the ball but was probably a more direct player. A great servant to MFC. Sad loss indeed !! RIP.

Speaking personally, I'm childish about things like that (despite heading rapidly towards fifty). If someone works you over, and I believe McGhee did, (improved contract etc etc etc), you like to see them fall on their arses. I really do hope McGhee falls flat on his c**t at Aberdeeen, or starts behaving like a ten bob hooker again and pisses the sheepy fans off. It's not the most important thing in my life but i'd love to see it happen.

Abso-bloody-lutely matey. Thats the only way clubs like ours can survive. When i talked about 'investing in the squad' I was meaning the kind of thing that jim McLean was a master at. Like getting some kid from a lower division team, signing him up on a 7 year contract and punting him on. That is the kind of thing that only the richest can do. (Man U, Ronaldo) Remember people saying Fergie had accidentally signed the wrong Ronaldo ?? :-) Players that we've brought up and brought through should be on decent length contracts so that we can get the best out of them and still get a decent fee. Unfortunately, these days, agents are getting in the heads of young players and advising them against long contracts with the promise of big moves and big signing fees. As you say, if we allow these kids to slip away, that is just incompetance.

Absolutely spot on mate. I think there are a lot of clubs yet to deal with their incoming problems. In a way it's similar to the administration thing a few years back. It forced us to get our house in order while other clubs firefight their finances and continue to accumulate debt, we are in a position where that is not happening any more. Every club in the league will have to deal with debt problems (if they haven't already) and it can come as a short sharp shock in the way it happened to us or it can be done slowly by offloading players (how many 'sellable' players are there in the SPL ?). I firmly believe some will not survive this process. I'd rather be where we are than where some of the others are. Fans talk about 'investing in the squad' but these days there is no such thing. Players on two year deals to get their next bosman move. Only the very richest teams can 'invest in the squad'. Can you imagine what would happen in England if Sky went bust ????? :-)

Sky Sports - Motherwell's Greatest Ever Player Nominations
AllyMax replied to Tartan_Special's topic in Club Chat
With the greatest of respect to the younger fans, someone like Faddy can in no way be considered to be our best ever player. He played for the Motherwell first team for about 5 mins before moving on. The mid 70's team was half full of players who could do what Faddy did. Guys like Wark, Ian Taylor, Vic Davidson, Marinello could ALL beat men and cross and score goals. Faddy was special for his time but his time was brief and he was in a team dominated by non special players. Just my opinion like Tin hat on........ -
Get a bloody grip Gannon 3 mins without a goal ?? Get some fuckin' changes made C'mon The 'Well !!!!!!!
-
McGhee is a whore. Simple as. When he started fucking us, he was fucking someone else in his mind. He's now fucking the sheep and thinking about the tims. Like all cheap hookers, and like happened to him in England, he'll run out of people willing to pay to fuck him. GIRUY McGhee.
-
Maybe Mr Boyle should add a further question to his interview list for potential candidates. "And can you tell me that in spite of your obvious desire to get this job, are you likely to last more than six months before you turn into a cheap hooker offering free gammys to any chairman with a potential managerial vacancy". I think McGhee has been great for the football side of things but away from that, he's been an arsehole who speaks with a very, very forked tongue. Would love to see him go to the sheep shaggers and then discover that he's A) caught a dose from Stewart Milne & Willie Miller, and, B)Got far less of a budget than he expected.
-
Maybe Niall is Freddy Dindeleux and hangs about the shop after it closes, looking for a contract.
-
Heard from a very reliable source that Celtic will only take someone who can follow their traditional coaching methods. The short list is: 1. Fritzel 2. Glitter 3. Jackson
-
Only saw the game on the telly yesterday and haven't seen anything else of him (other than highlights) so maybe i'm not qualified to say but I thought Sheridan looked pretty pish to be honest. He might improve with games but why give that opportunity to someone else's player ? Sutton might improve with games and at least he's our player.
-
Would be the wee cnut Nevin........ He was on TV t'other night and when asked about the financial implications of Man City's bid for Kaka, started by saying 'I studied economics for a while...........'. If he studied economics, how did he not know that paying players £5500 a week on our turnover was probably not that clever a plan ?
-
What an amazing find ! Cheers !! That was my first ever game against Rangers.........remember going feckin' wild at that third goal with tears of joy streamin' doon ma face !! Magic......magic........ Vic Davidson was some player mind......one of my favourites of all time (as per the other thread).
-
Joe Wark by a mile and probably another mile Vic Davidson, Wullie P obviously.......

Glad the forum is back. It might surprise you, but there's no one to talk to about The 'Well on the Isle Of Bute. It's a haven of hunnery and timmery with the odd Morton fan thrown in
