I'm firmly in then same camp as those who have posted positive comments concerning Tom Hateley. The guy rarely missed a game for us and was a consistently reliable player and a great asset to the team. I just cannot understand those who have had a go at the lad because it most certainly is not from a footballing perspective. If McCall wanted him back then I would certainly be very happy to have him back. If he doesn't then I'm fine with that too. I wonder who the boo boys are setting their sights on next?

There is only one way to get better at football and that is to play against teams that are better than or at a higher level and if possible on a fairly regular basis. However due to lack of finances SPL clubs (Celtic excepted) are not able to do so hence you get matches against the likes of Doncaster and Morecambe, no disrespect to either. To play against better teams in friendlies does cost money e.g. I remember we played and beat Ajax in a friendly in the '70s however despite a crowd of about 7,000 the club made an overall loss of £10K due to having to pay Jax a guarantee to get them to come. Heaven knows what that equates to in today's money. SPL players will only improve if they are exposed to playing against better players than themselves - witness how Aberdeen and Dundee Utd gradually improved in the 80's by getting more and more experience of playing against better players in European competitions. The only small consolation is that we won't be playing against players of the likes go Newcastle and Krasnodar other than Celtic in the SPL.

I genuinely believe that Angol would bring real pace to the front whether playing directly up front or playing left midfield and would be a great foil for McFadden.
-
Early days certainly and we were playing a side from a much higher level than the dross in the SPL/SPFL. However tonight I believe Hollis clearly demonstrated to any remaining doubters as to why he will not be our first choice goalkeeper.

It's a close run thing as to where the biggest load of shite is at present with regard to which players are going where - Daily Rancid, Current Bun, Daily Rocket , Murdoch TV or this site.

Absolutely spot on Ya Bezzer. Folk have short memories.

I think folk are being overly hard on Tom Hateley because of who his father is. The guy has been almost ever-present in our first team since he joined us and IMO always gives his best. He is not short on ability and I for one hope we manage to hold onto him. Or has he become the latest in the sights of the boo boys?

I was deeply shocked and deeply saddened to hear this. My sincere condolences go to Peter's wife and family. He was a hard man on the park but a gent off it. I met him a few years ago when he was in the same ward as my dad at the old Law Hospital and he was embarrassed when I told him he was one of my all-time favourite 'Well players. Part of that great team of he '70s that did not really get the credit it deserved. God rest Peter.

Sorry Weeyin didn't know that. It's just judging by the fact that there's been much in print about him leaving with quite a few options (admittedly by the Rancid and the h*n) I'm beginning to wonder if its been his agent pumping this out more in hope that he can get a bigger % of any deal he manages to cut for the big lad. Whatever, the club needs to move on.

F***ing priceless mate! Best post by a mile for some time.

I really like the big guy but I think it's time the club set him a deadline for re-signing with us. If he's not put his John Hancock on the contract by that date then the offer should be withdrawn, he should be told to leave and Stuart McCall can then get to the business of looking for a replacement. We've heard a lot about other clubs wanting to sign him but none have done so yet - what's the hold-up? He is a free agent after all! Far too many players get the best offer their club can make and then think they can hang about until another club makes them a better offer. I don't say it's all the players' fault as much of he time it's their agents that want to have the best of both worlds. So sorry Higgy, sign on please or move on.

Well Well, I'm sorry if it came across as me having a go but I was trying in my own clumsy way, to say that everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if the people expressing the opinions are seen as perpetual doom and gloom merchants that can never seem to find any good in anything the club does. It just annoys the hell out of me when people have a go at others who are merely having their say. But I do think the club have embarked on a road down which danger lies with the Well Society. As I said I genuinely don't believe its viable due to the small size of our fan base but I applaud them for giving it a go. Cheers.

Well Well, I think your Avatar is very apt. I do not criticise the club, unless in my opinion, that is my own personal opinion, which I believe I am entitled to hold and if I elect do do so, express on a public forum such as this which seems designed for that purpose. However, I honestly believe the thinking behind the Well Society whilst absolutely laudable, is seriously flawed and for one simple reason - Motherwell FC, very much to my regret, simply does not have a big enough fan base to support such an operating model. To put things into perspective, we have just had arguably one of the most successful season in the club's long history, and I would suggest certainly the most successful in the modern football era, by finishing 2nd in the league and yet still we make a loss. It does beg the question, what would've happened if we had finished 2nd bottom?

I seem to recall we have played Aalborg previously in pre-season friendly. Might have been a good few years back mind.

Ludicrous Poll Time - Are You Rangers Or Celtic Minded?
El Grew replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
One is equally as obnoxious as the other and Scottish football would be better off without both of them. Motherwell 'till I die and if possible after that too. -
Great riposte mate. Made me smile. No hard feelings. We're all 'Well.
-
Delighted at this news. Great for us in particular and Scottish football in general. A promising young Scottish manager staying in the SPL. Now, if only some of the players would consider taking a leaf out of this book. C'mon Higgy, Humph and Faddy, sign on the dotted line now too - you know you want to.

Just to prove my point. Law's career before coming to us:-.2005-2009 Sheffield Utd 5 games in 4 seasons;2007 Yeovil Town 6 games;2007-2009 Bradford City 43 games in 2nd division (old 4th division);2009-2011 Rotherham Utd 74 games in 2nd division (old 4th division)..The vast majority of his career in the lowest end of English football. So hardly a surprise he's now elected to go to the lowest end of Scottish football! As I said a journeyman! So lets not let bullshit stand in the way of facts.
-
My arse! You hold your opinion chum and I'll hold mine! Law is just an average footballer - at best. Out of contract and there's hardly been a stream of clubs beating a path to our door to get his services so don't build the guy up to be something he's not and never will be.
-
Inthebasement your first post was very good and IMO hits right into the truth of our position now.
-
We've lost much better players than Law in the past so folk should stop moaning about him leaving to go to The Rangers. FFS you'd think we were losing Pele and not a journeyman.
-
Oh aye? You've been quick to criticise everybody else's suggestions, so you name some for consideration so we can all do likewise!

This might well end up giving Agatha Christie's play "The Mousetrap" a run for its money in terms of longevity.
