  1. Bit of a swell in the home support - it's amazing what that extra 6-700 can do, I thought the place looked pretty packed compared to most home games these days.
  2. To be fair, (and maybe I'm setting the bar really low these days) it's a very good ball in.
  3. South stand should be renamed the Ryan Bowman Stand.
  4. Great to hear. We've all expected big things for quite a few years now, I think when he's appearing for the u21's it's a good reminder that while he's been in and around our first team for what feels like a while he is still young and learning the game. Still got big hopes for him.
  5. As I did last night, I watch most Scotland games however not going to pretend I track the in's and out's of the squad and more often than not, I don't even recognise half the starting 11. So based on my utter lack of knowledge, can anyone tell me why oor lad Jimmy Murphy hasn't even been near the squad ? I also know nothing about his current performances, other than he's in and out the first team of a team flying in the Championship.
  6. Always remember him for scoring the opener in the 2-1 win over Aberdeen which clinched Europe in 2008. Absolutely glorious day.
  7. Nah, there's been plenty of streaks during that time where he's been out and we've turned to even more shit.
  8. Genuine question - How many times have you seen us this season? Your post reads like someone who hasn't been in a while. If that's the case then trust me - Saturday was decent compared to what has been getting served up. Maybe that says it all.
  9. Just watched the highlights - We should've had a penalty. The second goal was an individual error by Ferguson. The first goal a bit more complex if we want to attribute blame (since that's the name of the game on here) - If you look at their head movements, McHugh obviously had an eye on their number 9 coming in, assuming Ferguson was picking up Liam Craig; and Ferguson was distracted by Swanson on the edge of the box and was assuming McHugh was picking up Craig. If either of the runners into the box had been picked up properly by the midfield (I'm looking at Pearson in particular, who saunters in) then this might not have happened. Then again, Ferguson and McHugh need to communicate to snuff out the immediate danger - in this case I think Ferguson needs to pick him up as he's the one facing him. Unfortunately that's what happens when we need to play youngsters who aren't quite ready. Also, Samson is in no way to blame for either of the goals.
  10. Disagree with that. Their second well and truly knocked the stuffing out of us for a good 15 minutes, which, I admit I was disappointed to see the players react that way. However, the latter parts of the first half, the first 20 of the second (up to the goal) and the last 10 the players were clearly giving absolutely everything.
  11. Agree with Pearson. Forgot he was on the park at times, which is very out of character. St Johnstone did soak up a lot of pressure. It's the first feeling of a 'siege' I think I've had at Fir Park and to their credit they mopped it all up nicely.
  12. Love it! Just over 3 hours from our new gaffers first proper game in charge and the 'under pressure' patter has started. Is that a British record? Also - you do realise one of the interview panel was responsible for a £800m per year budget in his previous role?
  13. My thoughts - Can't argue that Robinson has got at least an extra 20% out of the players. We wouldn't have put a shift like that under McGhee so credit to the new gaffer for that. Also, for all those who feared defensive tactics - we had 5 (6 including pearson) attack minded players on for the last 25 minute. Also, can't say he's not afraid to change it. We were always at risk of losing a sloppy goal with our patchwork defence - particularly when we were chucking men forward. If we put a shift like that in against Accies, Partick and Inverness should see us pick up enough points there to climb to safety.
  14. Have folk speculating on here actually read the article? If the record is accurate, then Hughes wasn't first choice, second choice or fifth choice. "Hughes had been considered as a serious contender" That means nothing. As does any of this speculation. Because unless you hear something with a bit of detail from one of the horses mouths, then it's all fairly meaningless. Lets speculate Coyle was, on paper, the front-runner. Whose to say Robinsons interview didn't blow the panel away with his vision, ethos and understanding of the needs of the club (which if you listen to his interviews, is entirely possible). Let's speculate that it was enough to put him a very close second with Coyle, with the panel deliberating over their decision. Let's speculate that Coyle did indeed withdraw, along with 'serious contender' Hughes. Does that mean Robinson is a panic appointment at the end of a mismanaged process? I've heard enough from Robinson to fill me with confidence that's he's a smart guy with his finger on the pulse of the club and to honest, I canny be bothered picking this all apart in the same way others do. Quite content with him in charge regardless of the circumstances.
  15. I found it quite telling that his response was around McFadden's contract and the identity of the club, as opposed to any qualities he has as an assistant manager.
  16. Well that was a good read. This place has actually had quite a balanced reaction compared to them fannies over on yon Facebook. Anyway, personally I'm content with the appointment and looking at it with an open mind. He was obviously well regarded enough to get the Oldham job which is (arguably) bigger than Motherwell. A few folk decrying this; his only managerial stint; as being as disaster however I think his time there should be considered in context: He joined a club with 5 contracted players and no money, Signed 19 players on frees and was expected to have a coherent squad within 4 weeks Entered the January transfer window unable to make any more signings due to a transfer embargo. I dare say there aren't many managers, particularly in their first managerial job, could have succeeded there. And there won't be many who have the experience / learning from that. Yes, his successor came in and things improved however he had the benefit of the transfer embargo being lifted and was able to add 7 new signings to a squad which had already been playing together for 5 months. Whose to say Robinson couldn't have turned things around if he was able to strengthen and replace? He seems very well regarded as a coach, has years of experience in working with young players in the NI Youth setup and his experience in Euro qualification and at the finals is a real gem for his CV. I dare say his time at Oldham could be spun into a positive as well. Add into the mix a quite clear galvanisation of the squad over two games and the backing of the players. All of a sudden Robinson's appointment makes some sense. I've no idea who 3 of the other 4 candidates were. However, if folk would rather have a guy who has managed in the continental equivalent of the Irish League, has no experience working to a tight budget and has one years experience coaching a youth team in the third tier of Finnish football then batter in. Can't see what boxes are ticked there myself.
  17. Maybe Miller's getting volleyed backwards. That would be okay.
  18. Another instalment of ref-watch. Only seen this still image, but it's not looking good.
  19. Was Heneghan's yellow merited? Sounded like the next great scandal on the MFC commentary. In saying that, it also sounded like Cadden had been decapitated and I've heard nothing about that since, so I'm not 100% sure it's we were getting an impartial view...
  20. Would there be the same appetite for Robinson if Boyd had scored his penalty?
  21. Didn't someone mention a Champions League winner had applied about 6 or 7 days ago?
