  1. Yep. Like Moult, he looks like he's got a good bit of pace and plays with energy (his sliding tackle to close down Brown was great to see), and he's shown he can be in the right place at the right time. He's lacking that killer instinct that Moult has just now though.

    Mark McGhee

This is exactly how I find him. I think where he occasionally goes wrong is his understanding of what it is to be a football fan. For a guy who is often lauded as being highly intelligent, he can be honest to the point of stupidity. For example, "well, of the two jobs I'd rate the Celtic one above Aberdeen" in his first press conference as Aberdeen manager. I'm sure most managers would think that, but for fuck sake just dodge the question. That said, I like McGhee a lot and think what he did for this club far outweighs any negatives. As a manager I reckon this 'ego' that people speak of gives him an air of unwavering confidence and self-assuredness that most of the players will respond well to most of the time.
  3. We've had some shite times over the last 18 months and every victory feels absolutely massive just now but full credit must go to McGhee for instilling a spirit in the squad which has spread right into the stands. The last few games have been immense.
  4. Ripley then Kennedy for me. Maybe I need new specs, but I thought Moult had one of his quieter games today.

    The Well Society

Brutal but true. If that's the message needed to get folk on board then so be it.

I took out my membership at the start and since then have contributed nothing so I've just setup a direct debit. Has the old membership scheme been scrapped?

    Mark McGhee

Hmmm, might be that those that don't like him are the more vocal. I think he should always be respected at MFC for a couple of obvious reasons. I've posted this opinion on a few occasions, but unlike those who dislike him I'm not going to bang on about it.
  8. I think you are overconfident. Dundee United have won 6 in 10, drawing 1 and losing 3. The three losses have come against Aberdeen, Celtic and us. We need to forget their position, and realise that they have found form and will be well and truly up for this. I like a Friday night game (or any game under floodlights), and despite it being on TV I can see them bringing a decent crowd. This has all the makings of being a good game. A draw would be decent for us.
  9. First 45 we looked confident, playing some nice football. The players were moving the ball quickly, and the movement off the ball was far better than it's been through our shit run. Second 45, bit more stop start but we defended well when we had to, rode our luck at times but credit to the team for seeing it out in the last 5 in a professional manner. Despite being more dominant, I wouldn't even say it's disappointing to only win 1-0 as those 3 points are massive. No fault with Moult at the penalty, that was a great save. Delighted to see Laing on the scoresheet - he's got attributes which are lacking in all our other defensive options (attacking mindset + pace + size) and I tend to agree with McGhee in that he's got the potential to be a very good player for us. NDP is a joke but my half time cup of tea was lovely.

    Late Winners

Mine have already been mentioned - Ross vs Celtic in 1996. An early game in my life as a 'well fan. I was warned that it wasn't the norm and was well and truly given perspective in the 1-0 defeat to Raith Rovers 4 days later which sticks in my mind as one of the worst games I've ever been to. I'm sure they scored close to the 90th minute. Hateley vs St Mirren 2011 "We are top of the league" Reid at Pittodrie. Don't need to say more.
  11. I'll keep it brief - Goals aside, Louis Moult is still everything a professional footballer player should be. Alongside skippy, those two on their game are an absolute handful. I thought Marvin was mostly poor on the ball but his defending from the front and work ethic off the ball puts him ahead of Ainsworth in the pecking order. Louis Laing as a marauding fullback is a sight to behold. Not a perfect game but considering his lack of game time he was impressive nonetheless. This has the potential to add quite an exciting element to our game. Hopefully this is the first signs of us turning the corner.
  12. Yep. Just been looking through line-ups since McGhee came in. Ainsworth had a run of 3 starts back in November and has only started twice since then. McGhee obviously not willing to persevere with him in the same way he does other players who are off form.
  13. Unfortunately we'll now be tagged as a team who don't play the full 90 minutes. Teams will push on in the latter stages knowing we're likely to fuck it up.
  14. Excellent, 4 pages in and we finally have someone 'in the know'. Please enlighten us - If he's the 'cheap option' does that mean the GM salary is incremental? What's the scale and how much did the club save by employing someone at the bottom rung of that scale? Or did they just pick a number out of the sky? Also, what's the current role and remit of the GM and how does that compare to the Press and Media Manger post? Which parts of the GM post is beyond that of a multiple award winning press and media manager?

    Away Crowds

True. But that wouldn't explain why we (seem) take more to Killie than they bring to us. That's a hunch I've got about most our opposition.

    Away Crowds

Anyone know how the crowds we take away compare to those that come to Fir Park? I probably go to one in three away games, and it always feels like we take a decent crowd comparative to the size of our home gate. This might be down to me choosing games which naturally seem a bit more appealing to the majority. On the other hand, the away crowds at Fir Park have been poor for a few years (I think) and seem to have declined further this year. At first glance the sense of scale won't help, given that they sit in the huge away stand but the announced figures do seem smaller than we would take to an equivalent fixture away from home. I've tried to do the math myself, but finding these figures is proving difficult.
  17. Don't know it's because he's responsive and easily accessible to the fans (a good thing) or because he's a bit more in the public eye than others clubs general managers but I find the obsession with him a bit creepy. Bet he does too.
  18. 7:34am when this was posted. You must have still been on the sauce from the night before when you typed this if you were looking for sympathy.

    Relegation

Where was that posted? Quite an interesting way of looking at the league.
  20. Exactly, and you'll rarely hear any manager in any league publicly acknowledging errors. Yet another nonsense stick to beat the club with.
  21. I don't think the formation or lineup was necessarily a problem today. It was our inability to pass and move. Too many players isolated on the ball, and limited movement off it. Gomis and Mcdonald always looking to move the ball quickly but wih zero options. Could see they were getting frustrated.
  22. McGhee with some very thinly veiled criticism in his interview last night. "It was my decision to put him on".... say's it all. Ainsworth remains one of my favourite 'well players, and I can't help but feel for him going from 'superstar' to quite clearly out of favour however he's failed to take almost every opportunity given to him under McGhee and last night was just another example of something not being quite right with him.
  23. In a technical sense it was a rotten game, but it wasn't a boring game. A combination of shite pitch and Partick simply crowding out any attempts by us to play football kept things tight. Not panicking yet as the difference between this year and last year is that despite poor results the team don't seem in freefall and do seem to have a togetherness which was lacking.
