Breiðablik (known as UBK Kopavogur when playing in European competitions) was founded in 1950 and is the smaller sports club in Kópavogur in Iceland, HK being the bigger one. Breidablik has several divisions, both men's and women's: football, athletics, basketball, karate, dance, skiing, swimming and team handball.
The men's football team are notorious for bouncing between the two top leagues in Iceland, getting promoted and relegated regularly. They won promotion to the Úrvalsdeild, the top division, yet again in 2005. Before the tournament in 2006 they were expected to be relegated from the top division along with ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar, but they proved everyone wrong in the final rounds, finishing in 5th place ahead of ÍA Akranes, Fylkir, Grindavík and ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar and saving themselves from relegation.
