  1. Why the clamour for John Collins?? He has an ego as big as McGhee and did nothing at Hibs apart from fall out with their players, hardly a glowing endorsement. I would rather have Butcher back. Problem is he would have to bring Malpas back and that wont happen.
  2. At this rate the next time I get to watch a game someone will have to remind me which team Motherwell are.......................
  3. I do hope that Broonie stays, but if he does do the dirty on us then I would love it if big Tel came back to Fir park. Compensation may be an issue though.... Yes he left us before....but to go to Sydney. Hell I would do that myself.
  4. Oh well such is life..... It is no different to any person being offered another job. They are flattered and if they are uncertain about moving would at least try to negotiate better terms at their current job or signs that they are valued. The signs that Craig Brown and Archie Knox are looking for are for some extra money to boost squad numbers and strengthen the team. If we as a club cannot afford that or john boyle is not prepared to help futher, then they may take that as a sign and look to move after all. One thing is for sure - we cannot give in to this emotional blackmail - if that is what it is. We need a sound financial footing as we do not want to be the 2nd club to go into administration twice! Either way if he/they were to leave they would lose a HUGE amount of respect after the comments quoted. I hope not as they are a wise combination and have been VERY GOOD for this club.
  5. TBH I would be the first to say that McGhee did an excellent job for us for 75% of his time with us. The problem with McGhee is that he always saw us as a stepping stone, which I can also understand to an extent. But there came a point where his ego and vanity got in the way. It is the kind of guy he is. He has previous for it. Almost comparable to the tart always looking for the bigger better deal. We may not be the biggest club in the world, but we gave him a platform and a chance to get back into management. It is only human nature for many Well fans to hope he falls flat on his face and boy did that happen big time
  6. Bit of a bummer to be honest, but it is better to call off now than at 10am on Saturday. Annoying that this weather has directly affected 2 back to back home games. Why could it not have happened when we were due to play DDEE Utd and Aberdeen away Why have we not had a date for the re-scheduled Hearts game? No doubt will fall w/c 13th Dec when I am away on business. Ah feck it
  7. It's a feckin no brainer for christ sake. It is not just Motherwell playing this game + not all Motherwell fans live along Fir Park St. I am in Edinburgh and is has been dumping down for hours. The roads are a mess and one fellow Well fan friend cannot even get his car out his drive. If I was a Hearts fan I would have stayed at home - so we could have probably expected 20 jambos. Correct decision.
  8. Motherwell don't do easy wins in the cup regardless of the circumstances. That said I do believe we are firm favourites IF we play well on the day. If the team that played Hamilton turn up, then we could well get a bloody nose. As for the Dundee team that will face us.....I suspect that they will try and hold onto their best players as a win in this tie could get them a draw v one of the Old firm or DDee Utd which would mean a lot of sponduliks. That of course will make them a dangerous side. They may be playing for there very survival....
  9. We struggled for most of the 1st half although could have taken the lead when a free kick took a deflection and hit the Midden post. The cross from McGowan for their goal was a peach, but as usual our defending at cross balls left a lot to be desired. St Mirren had a couple of chances to score a second but big bad Nick scored an effin beauty. From there on in we could and perhaps should have shaded it. For me Higdon should have walked earlier but as usual the ref bottled it. Other plus points were Forbes when he came on and Gows performance in the last 30 mins. Yes he was gash for the 1st 60, but showed glimpses of why he is/was a talented footballer. Craigie Broon got his subs right and whilst I groaned at seeing Forbes come on, he really was a useful addition and looked an accomplished footballer. I will take the point after being 1-0 behind, but folk are right to point out that we are dropping points to teams that are average at best if not pretty woeful. Hamilton look like they may not win another game this season yet won at Fir park. Hibs lost again today but have beaten us twice and as for Aberdoom......these lapses could and probably will come back to haunt us.
  10. I think it is a good idea, speaking as someone who does not live locally to Fir Park. I am always interested in spending my hard earned cash on anything claret and amber, unfortunately it is an illness, so why should Motherwell FC not take advantage. Could raise many 000's through the course of the season. The official team photo is a crackin idea. When do I get to play in the 1st 11 :wank:
  11. Looking assured as well. Is that our Saunders Well done Steven, although Marky Reynolds must be wondering what he has done or not done. Not play for DDee Utd is the obvious mistake.
  12. Every now and then you go through seasons when 1 team in particular are a pain the the backside. Hibs are that team at the moment. They can and do play gash for most of the 9-10 games between when we play them to the next time and then hey presto raise their game again... Time to see what the boys are made of. We have hardly had to come back from behind before this season - so let us see how we cope.
  13. I'll tell you what - make the most of it girls and guys.......this is as good as it gets or ever is likely to get. For a team sitting in 3rd place getting less than 3500 for a game is embarrassing. Sure it is midweek - sure it is expensive, but we cannot expect the club to sustain this level of performance on such paltry crowds. 1st half was good to watch and if we get less than a £1 million for Humps it will be daylight robbery.
  14. I am not so sure he should be sacked. Managers and Footballers are hardly paragons of virtue. Goodwillie goes ten rounds every other weekend - yet he is still employed. Riordan tries to break another players legs - yet he is still in a job. McGhoo gets Aberdeen their worst result ever - yet he is still in a job (for now anyway) Rooney is engaged/married - yet sh#gs every slapper in town. I think you get the message. Dougie McDonald made a mistake - has the balls to change his mind, but told a wee white lie as to how he came to change his mind - so what. Craig Thomson is a bigger bellend and has allowed two teams to bully, timewaste and assault there way to victory against the mighty Well this season. I have more respect for Dougie Mac than that muppet
  15. Well I bottled it and left with 8 minutes to go. Got down the road in good time. I agree with Pies assessment. Caley had a few chances to score before we did including Foran at the back post when Saunders slipped. Thereafter we were by far the superior side, scored 2 and should have scored 5 or 6. And then what happens... Good goal by Caley and Duff will NEVER score a better struck goal in his puff. For once not sure the criticism of defensive play (after 2 golas up) is just. We were 2-0 up and going for the jugular. It is inevitable that after they scored they would pour forward. As for the other comment re Humps. I thought he was IMMENSE for us today. Make no mistake if he was playing for Hibs he would be sold for £4m+, we will probably settle for £75k. At least 4 times today crosses were overhit and yet he still got to them, when any other player bar Usain Bolt would not. A solid performance - at times we were streets ahead of Caley. Just wish we could get our home form sorted. Well done to the away support who sang all match long.
  16. Bit miffed at that. Would have rather had the Saturday + avoided live television. This will have a detrimental impact on the crowd. Shame really.
  17. Only just over 24 hours away from the game. Does anyone know who is fit and who is injured. The silence has me worried.......will we miss Murphy, Lasley and potentially Jenings and Hammell Someone must be in the know.....
  18. Invariably the Q is when it come to double headers in cup and league.......if you could win one which one would you take. Watched the United v Celtic game today and as much as the result was the right outcome DDee Utd put a lot into the game and held there own in periods of the match. They are capable of off days but have a strong solid team....a team which we have historically struggled with, with lots of height (Daly + Kenneth) and strength (Goodwillie, Gomis and Conway). You can almost write the script next Saturday. We will start brightly and SHOULD be 3 or 4 goals to the good except it is either 0-0 or 1-0. DDee will come back into it in second half . This has happened in almost every home game this season and yesterday by the sounds of it. Games last 90 mins not 45......... 2 tough games ahead - would love to win them both. However I suspect we may win one and lose one. I would opt for the league and 3 points over a probable spanking at Hampden by either half of the bigots. Discuss
  19. Not one comment in the press about playing 3rd placed Motherwell. All about McGregor and Gers injuries. NOW IS THE TIME TO DO THE BARSTEWARDS. I think we will get a point. If things go our way I am going for a 3-1 victory
  20. I would be all for re-developing Fir park. In fact that would be my preference. But it is most probably a no go for many reasons. The primary one being the finance that would be raised from selling the ground for housing or retail. Then you have logistics. Re-developing Fir Park would probably mean playing at Hamilton or Airdire for a season or a good part of a season. IMHO that would lead to more fans finding alternatives on a Saturday than any move to Ravenscraig. We may well lose a few fans but I agree with dave on this point. like him I travel 60+ miles for every home game so a few extra miles would be no problem and if it is for many supporters who live locally then that would be a shame. I love Fir Park, always will, but for progress a move away seems the more logical option.
  21. Only Motherwell fans can moan about beating St Mirren 3-1 FFS. Were no playing nice stuff....I prefer when we were playing back when we were bottom of the league .....honest to god. We are 3rd and for the most part have played some very decent footie this season. Only last week we handed out a footballing lesson to Hearts at tynecastle. If you want to win every week and watch great football I suggest you go an support Chelsea who have a Billionaire owner and crowds of 40k week in week out. A little perspective please. Today we played well fro about 30mins. In fact there was only one team in the game. Then we took our foot off the gas and let St Mirren back into the game. Pretty much the same way we did for Aberdeen. Then we played quite poorly for the bulk of the second half. But how many times have we seen us lose games like today. I will take the 3 points, be happy and enjoy the weekend.
  22. From Jambos Kickback: I'm not surprised JJ was owned by Brown. Brown's one of the two best managers in the league, and has pissed all over the SPL since joining Motherwell. His team are the best side outwith the OF: their record since he took charge is amazing. Motherwell were very, very good today. A fast breaking team with loads of pacey, composed players. Everything we should be. Shame because I f***ing hate that shitty little club and that shitty little manager.
  23. With Mortonhall Well in the John Robertson lounge courtesy of a neighbour. He is a Jambo of course but actually a fairly likeable one. If nothing else he put a £5 down on Blackman to score the 1st on my advice...i only put £2 down at 8/1. The Elliot penalty incident happened in front of us and whilst it could have been given the truth is he ran straight into our player not the other way around. hard not to jump about when the goals went in. self preservation and all that. The Jambos were resigned in the end to the fact we were well on top and had few arguments over the final result. Great game and all the players played well, especially in the second half. Humphrey was different class today and has the potential to go a long way in the game. Credit to Gannon for bringing him up here and on a decent deal. Happy days
  24. TBH you cannot argue with a home tie avoiding the old firm in a cup 1/4 final. Anything else would be plain greedy
  25. Other teams I would rather have faced, but it is a better draw than DDee Utd away. It gives us a good chance to get to the semis. Let not forget ICT beat them 4-0 not so long ago. They are a decent side but so are we on our day. Could be a good game.
