I think the most valid point about tonights game and in fact the season so far - is Humphrey crossing the ball into the box to no-one in particular. He must take some share of the blame as he rarely looks up to see who if anyone is in the box. But to be fair (this season) most of his crosses have been there or thereabouts but there has been NO attacking player to get on the end of them. I don't know whether missing out last night will mean the end of our signings. Probably will but how about instead of chasing Gow we get a Kyle type target man who can get on the end of Humphrey's crosses. Still hurting this morning - but home gates of 23,000 combined + hospitality + programme + merchandise sales = a reasonable sum to the club. Hopefully will help us back into the black this year. TBH in getting through to the group stages we would have fecked up our league campaign. Even with a couple of extra signings we would not have had a strong enough squad to compete on both fronts. That PLUS less Sunday games - always look on the bright side of life

They were all in the Centenary Suite before kick off. The whole corporate hospitality was give over to them - 100+. Still if they are willing to pay for their dinner at Fir Park. 100+ x £70+ = £7000+ tonight Thanks for your money - don't let the door hit your arse on the way oot

Like most I am disappointed. But unlike some Scottish clubs that is 2 years in a row we have had 3 Euro ties and 3 years in a row we have gone out to the seeded side. I have had 5 away trips in the last 3 years and loved every minute. Tonight it was just not meant to be. I am proud of the players and the effort they put in. With a little more composure we would have got through tonight. Overall I do believe Odense have a stronger team in terms of experience, nous and general build. That said we could have taken them and that augurs well for the season ahead. There play acting, especially at the penalty was infuriating albeit streetsmart and probably contributed to Murphy's miss. Don't be too hard on the young lad. He has talent and will bag many goals for us this season. Onwards and upwards. Just have to turn our attention to the CIS draw as oppose to the diddy Europa Cup draw

If we win - we win...... If we don't - we don't..... What will be will be..... Either way the boys have performed well enough to get us to this stage. I and everyone on here (bar the odd Denmarkian) hope they have it in them for one final push. One thing is for sure - we will need every player to be on top of their game, we will need a slice of luck along the way and maybe even a refereeing decision or two in our favour. It will be some night whatever the outcome and a GREEEAAAT one if/when we win. Here's hoping

I believe that is correct Rickoza which is less than the Albania 10. In truth that number is pathetic. One reason given is they were saving their money for the group stages If it was down to worthy fans we should get a bye - sadly it is not. I soooo hope we do them.
-
We cannot have sold 3000 tickets since around 4pm today when Leanne said we had sold 8100. Hope he is right mind.
-
I would settle for a Copenhagen result - 1-0. 2-2 Aggregate Through on away goals. Hopefully we can do their compatriots. I believe they have sold less tickets than Breidlablik.........whereas we took 600+ over to Denmark. UEFA should award us the tie cause we have more fanatical fans
-
Good response and acceptance that a concessionary ticket perhaps should have been available. 8100 tickets with less than a day to go. TBH I would have hoped for a crowd near the 10,000 mark. Think we will struggle to sell 2000 tickets in the next 24 hrs. So looks like around 9000. Still the ground will look fairly full at that. Any more switherers (if that is a word) get out and along to Fir park. Your CLUB needs you.

Christ what next............on the eve of one of our biggest games we are doing a GOK WAN Claret and Amber 1000 x better than boring red, blue, green, black and white. I love our colours - we are Motherwell and we are Claret & Amber. If you don't like the colours there is a wee away top out right now which is all white.........or will the badge put some off - get a life.......... In Denmark I draped myself in a Claret and Amber flag and I am a vain bugg3r. Who cares what anyone else thinks...

My thoughts exactly. Nancy was a disappointment but we knew that ultimately we were beaten by a superior team. Whilst I acknowledge that Odense have possibly a stronger squad, the gap between them and us is not as big as their team, their fans and ultimately their Manager believes. It takes me back to the CIS final when Rangers gubbed us. A friend at the time said it was the worst he felt for a long long time. Sure I was disappointed but we knew that game was lost after 20-30 minutes. It would have been MUCH more painful if Rangers had beaten us in the 3rd minute of injury time. If we get soundly beaten, upsetting as it is I can live with it. If as stated earlier we score an OG in 94 mins - it will take me a loooooooooong time to get over that heartache. Still keep the faith I will go for 4-2 the Well - why not..........
-
One thing is for sure it will take a heroic defensive effort + a huge slice of luck to keep a clean sheet against Odense over 90 minutes. One thing we do not need to do and usually do is give daft free kicks away around the box a la Hibs last weekend, Odense away and even Nancy a couple of years ago. If we have one weakness it is defending a whipped free kick into the box. Long punts and corners we fare slightly better but No the whipped free kick If we are to win I believe we will need to score 3 goals over the 90 or 120 minutes. What I would like to see is a shoot on sight policy.
-
Can you just imagine how we will feel if it is 1-0 to Motherwell in the 85th minute. Anyone with a weak heart should not go near Fir Park on Thursday night. Just as well we will be 3-0 up at 85 minutes........ It will be a nerve wracking affair to be sure. As long as we don't lose it in the last few minutes - that would be too much to bear
-
I also believe this will be the case. However that theory works both ways, in that our players have played 90 mins v Odense and realised that for the most part they are a match for them. We should take confidence from that. I am not sure we will keep them out over 90 mins - which means we will probably have to score 3 goals to go through
-
Just read the link and unless I am blind all I can see is that the away goals rule varies after normal time in some competitions - I do not believe it does in Europa Cup.

To be honest £20 would have been too much had we been humped 3 or 4 zip in the 1st leg. That being the case we would have had no more than 5-6000 tops. But I think the comparison with Killie as a bog standard SPL game is spot on. £20 to get in to Rugby Park v £20 to witness history in the making if all goes according to plan.... This is a hoge game and whilst theoretically the same as Nancy at home the away result gives us cause for optimism. I would be saddened if there were less than 10,000 on Thursday night. If there is then I expect 9999. Could go pear shaped or could be a night never to forget.

I think Blackman may well start on Thursday with Sutton into midfield. Fitzy was ok at times but rather uninspiring at others - I cannot see how playing either him or Forbes would aid our cause on Thursday. Sutton is a workhorse who has a presence both in defence and attack. Assuming Blackman starts the drop Sutton back into midfield. No bad attendance down at Killie what with all these games and expensive trips. Quite vocal too thanks to another cack ref and some antics from the Killie players. Run of the mill performance from us - but we won away at Killie and rested some 1st team players. All in all a good day at the office
-
I don't. I would happily trade in league points on Sunday for a win next Thursday evening. The fact of the matter is that by qualifying for the Europa group stage we would in effect be screwing up our league campaign as we do not have a squad strong enough to cope on both fronts and injuries and tiredness would take their toll. But the money to be made would set us up for a few seasons. That plus the SPL may be our bread and butter, but it is every year. Nah bring on Europa Group stage I would look to give Blackman either a starting place or a half as I believe he will do a Lukas and become our main striker in a v short time.

Taken me a while to read through all the posts. It was a great trip more so for that last minute goal. Interesting to read from the Denmarkians (in Joke) how they played poorly. How they ought to beat us more often than not. I hope that the team come to Fir Park with that attitude. It was a nice wee stadium but boy was that not a poor home support. Worse even than us for a European tie. Some papers have stated the attendance as 14,900. It was no more than the 5000 local press stated and 6-700 were Motherwell fans. They do have some decent players as you would expect but overall I thought we matched them and with a bit more composure up front would have scored more than 1. Now we go back to Fir Park and unlike the Nancy game we HAVE the vital away goal. That plus a determined team, wily old Manager and hopefully a good crowd will give us the slightest of edges to create what would be a unique and probably not to be repeated history for the club. We NEED ALL Well fans to get down to this game. With a large and noisy backing we CAN do this and will hopefully have a fairer referee, who might even be slightly swayed by the baying mob. One things for sure if they dive like last Thursday the East stand may have a wee word I am so looking forward to this game. We have done well so far whatever happens, but this could be the best and biggest night in Fir Park in my 40+ years. DO NOT MISS IT

Odense BK - Would any of the injured players listed above normally make the starting 11?
-
So basically you are a jinx big man
-
That John Utaka scored 18 goals last season. The defence and midfiled appear to be mainly scandanavian with the forwards from Mali, Brazil, Nigeria et etc. Straying from the Hibs thread a wee bit - just have to move on to the Odense thread noo.
-
I thought our defending against Aalesund at Fir Park was immense and that both Craigan and Reynolds were terrific.....but here's the rub.......Aalesund for the most part threw balls into the box from distance and 99.9% of the time this was cleared. When you get a team like Hibs with more mobile forwards like Stokes and Riordan then our defence and midfield struggle big time. At times yesterday Hibs just cut through us. I still do not know what standard Odense are apart from the fact I do expect them to be better than us. If they have a mobile midfield and forwards it will be like yesterday, Nancy and St Bucharest. I assume their Manager was the game yesterday. I would tell them to attack from the right flank and whip balls into the box and put our Goalie and central defenders under physical pressure. Bigger teams aka Sol Bamba do it to us all the time. Very rarely do I see opposing defences under such an aerial bombardment and concerted pressure.
-
Awright smart ars3. In the grand scheme of things it is a minor irritation.
-
To be fair Hibs have the best attack outside of the Old firm and both Riordan and Stokes must be on £5k+ per week - at least double what the top Motherwell earner is on. Whether we like it or not they have more resources than us. The game itself was a good watch, if only we had held out to half time. We need to stop giving away needless and quite frankly stupid free kicks around the box. We also need to take our chances when they come along. Too many were missed in the 1st half especially. We are not enough of a threat at cross balls in the opponents box. As mentioned when Hibs had a cross they were all over our defence and keeper and looked like scoring most of the time. Even for Hibs 1st goal Bamba was climbing all over Saunders. We get a cross and there is no pressure on the Hibs keeper whatsover. Hibs were streetsmart today and got away with it because that bampot of a ref let them. As for the programme...effing typos everywhere. Who proof reads these things. The fixture list omits the away game v Odense and then has Killie down as a Europe league tie, whilst the home game v Odense is an SPL tie
