We were going EDI-LHR-Copenhagen bfore the bl00dy prices doubled in a little over 2 hours

This draw is either great or poor depending on your ambitions or those of the club. From a financial standpoint it is not great and depending on the result of the 1st leg will not see many more than were there last night. From the point of view of getting to the group stages it is the best draw considering the other teams. Not saying it is easy - far from it - just easier. My preference would have been Man City for the glamour, media attention and cash. But Odense were probably next since it is at least relatively close by. I will definitely go whereas with Russia and Turkey it would have been a definite no go. All in all a fairly decent draw.
-
Have not seen the other pots, but not too impressed. Would want to avoid Fenerbahce, Lokomotiv M and perhaps Zagreb as they would likely pump us without the glamour.... I would have liked slightly better odds than 50/50 to get a decent tie. In order of Preference: Man City Villareal Odense Croatia Zagreb Lokomotive Moscow Fenerbahce .........so Fenerbahce is it

To be fair I seem to recall reading that there was a cheer from the Norwegians when they drew out lowly Motherwell from Scotland. Not laughing now................ Nothing against Aalesund and their fans were brilliant tonight, but underestimate the mighty WELL in Europe at your peril Never thought I would ever be able to say that...........

Vewy vewy pwoud of the boys tonight. The relief after the 3rd went in was amazing. The way we sat back in the second half was worrying and 1 goal for them and it would be sweaty bum time. They passed the ball around midfield well and with some better strikers would have scored. That said our central defence was outstanding and Randolph was great. Everyone put in a decent shift and Humphrey showed us what he was capable of in the 1st half. Hope we avoid teams from Turkey, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. If so I will be on the plane 4 sure.....
-
In fairness to Julian, he puts his money where his mouth is. He is probably only one of 50-100 that have been to both Euro away games this campaign. That said it is cheaper to get to most places from Londinium
-
If we get past Aalesund chances are we will be drawn against a side from Romania or Turkey since there are now 3 sides seeded from each country in the play off round after tonight's results. Even B Dortmund drop into the unseeded half after tonight's game. Should we get through tomorrow it is either going to be a dream draw or a nightmare..there appears to be very little in between............Besiktas, Fenerbahce or Galatasaray anyone

Don't worry still nearly a month left for Rangers to lodge a bid of £35k for Reynolds. Watch this space. If we get through v Aalesund the pressure to sell Reynolds should dissipate somewhat. Although we have a ready made replacement in Hutchison I would rather Reynolds stayed another season than be sold for peanuts!
-
If it happens and we get through - some on here talking like we will. I have supported Motherwell long enough not to count my chickens. If we do get through and did draw an English team...let's face it Liverpool, Man City and Aston Villa would easily sell out the Cooper stand which is what they would get. Only likelihood barring a Juventus that Fir Park would be a sell out. In which case season tickets will be given priority I am quite sure of that. Even if it is just for 1 ticket each. That would still leave 6000+ tickets on general sale. Do not see a problem. As for the old first come first served p1sh. Some people tend to forget that not all Motherwell fans live within a few miles of Fir Park and CANNOT just nip down after work on a weekday!

TBH it is hard to know what to believe. Before we even played Breidablik Paw Broon said we had enough money for 1 striker. We get through that tie and another 90k Euros and home gate v Aalesund and suddenly we have NO money. Should we get through and draw Liverpool I am half expecting him to come out and say we have to sell playersnow such are the state of the finances. Who knows what to believe. Money is tight that much is undeniably true - but even were we to get knocked out v Aalesund we will still have taken in around £250k + (less expenses) from the 2 Euro ties. That is more than every other team in the SPL bottom half. With the sqaud we have I reckon 7th or 8th is the best we can hope for. We need to add 2-3 players of reasonable quality for a top6/Euro push. Aberdeen have signed 7 players at the last count. Not sure how many they lost during the summer mind.
-
I would say that is pretty much spot on. We got 5900 for Breidablik and this is a MUCH MORE IMPORTANT game - so hopefully that will add another 1000+ onto that total. I would love 7000+ but I will go for 6721, which should see all 3 Well stands quite full, minus of course the wee plastic seats in the POD stand that UEFA deem unsafe Whilst the crowd is important - the noise we make is even more important. Let's get behind the boys for 90+ minutes.
-
Well that answers the Q. The Aalesund fans will be in the South stand lower. Pleased with that - 200 fans would make much more noise in the POD stand. I am sure all Aalesund fans will be given a warm welcome. Motherwell is not a pretty town as it used to be a industrial/manufacturing town which employed 30,000 in the Steel industry - hence the nickname of Motherwell FC - The "Steelmen" May the best team win - as long as it us of course
-
Doubt it. I saw an article today in the Sunday papers where Keith Lasley was talking about looking forward to running out on Thursday to see 4 full stands of MFC fans. I did think who is he kidding. This is a hugely important game in terms of potential finance, players/transfers and the prestige of the club should we go on to win and draw a Liverpool in the next round. That said the only way we would see a full house is if we got a Liverpool FC. The turnout v Breidablik was OK but in truth I only expect a similar amount or marginally more this coming Thursday - my best guess would be 6500 at most. Would love their to be near 10,000 but just cannot see it. Pity though as the team need it and probably deserve it.
-
I see Ruddy shipped 4 yesterday to Everton inc the 1st which went straight through his legs Ray Clemence style. Thank god we got rid of that numpty I wish him well but it looks (fingers crossed) that we have a more than adequate replacement in Randolph. We now need replacements for O'Brien and Jukebox if we are to stand still and not go backwards. Murphy has started well and may become 1st choice striker this season.
-
So basically we are all brown bread if we get through the next round...........
-
One questions why this is the first time I and probably most Well fans have even heard this game is taking place

In terms of revenue then obviously an English club would be the best as they would bring 000's to Fir Park. I would take Liverpool as the dream draw in terms of accessibility and glamour. Other than that then France, Belgium, Germany + Austria would be excellent. Desperately would want avoid Ukraine and Turkey...........which means......of course all bets are off till at least around 9.40pm on Thursday evening!

You must have the home top as the away one (although COOL) is a bit like a teabag in quality. As 4 the sponsor I will wager there has been a slight hitch with the contract which will hopefully be ironed out b4 the season starts, although if we were to draw Liverpool they may want it resolved before then 4 obvious reasons. If the rumours are to be believed then I am sure dealing with a charity is not as straightforward as a private company who can just hand over the cheque.
-
I would go along with that. Anywhere from 7000+ would be decent, although I do hope that is the least we get given the scoreline and what is at stake in terms of potential rewards should we get through. That said the 5900 at the last game looked more like 7000 anyhoo...........
-
On the basis of those highlights it WAS a penalty. The Aalesund player controls the ball with one foot and knocks it past Saunders with the other. Saunders sticks out a leg and the guy goes to ground. More of a penalty than the one we got in the last game at Ibrox last season. WE would have been screaming for one had the same happened at Fir Park. Though knowing our luck we would not get it....... Hopefully home advantage will count and we can get through. Still I expect us to need 2 goals in order to do so. Ordered 6 tix today. Hoepfully the fans will turn up in good numbers and good voice.
-
Daggad 99% of Well fans know this game is far from over. We got a decent draw but NOT a win. As I said before we are possibly slight favourites now we play back at home. But we have seen our team lose at home to many teams in lower leagues to us - so we take nothing for granted. Try not to rise to the bait from a few posters on here. Are you coming over for the return leg?
-
And that is a good thing how Rickoza You know what our record is like playing against 10 or even 9 men
-
He does not have to be Sherlock, Poirot or Magnum PI to know that you are behaving like a t1t. There is probably very little between the two teams and it is not as if we have not viewed many or all games with claret and amber tinted specs, but no-one gets their pink thongs in a twist over it.
-
Thanks Daggad + Norwegian friends for your numerous posts. All in all we are happy with a 1-1 draw even after conceding a last minute penalty. The away goal is what we wanted and needed. The game is still open although we will be slight favourites, but no more than 60%/40% in our favour. There will be goals in the next game and we will not play for 0-0. We need to score at least 1 possibly 2 goals to go though. I really wished I could have made it up to Aalesund. It looks a beautiful place. How many Aalesund fans are coming over to Scotland??

And me please
