Why is Forbes suffering from a lack of confidence FFS. He is suffering from a lack of ability. That was as poor as we have played all year. Paw Broon has done a miraculous job thus far, but it is in danger of being undone asap. It is not unrealistic to expect at leats a draw against the bottom team at home at worst. We wer abysmal today and I can only believe the week off has done more harm than good. the pitch is appalling and did not help either side. we are on the points we are on now - coz we will get feck all against Celtic at Prkhead. we can only hope that Killie do us a favour, cos at the moment we look like we will blow 5th place. Any wonder we get piss poor crowds when we turn in performances like that. I won £90 cos I thought we might get done and Corals were offering a free £20 bet. I would rather have the 3 points, but we did not come close to desrving anything. Now is the time for paw Broon and A Knox to kick some ass. Feckin Dire

Normally I back our players 100% But it has to be said that he was woeful today, as far from being an SPL player as I have seen in along time. Both he and Murphy had the chance to step up to the mark and neither of them even came close.
-
I think you must have tatties in your ears..... I can see the conversation now.......I want £800k a year to manage Motherwell.....no problem Craig we will give you the £800 a week you are asking for Craig Brown would KNOW Motherwell could never afford £800k PA, so that much is bollox. He may well leave Motherwell, but I suspect as do most that he will (hopefully) stay for a couple more seasons as a swansong before retiring for good. Why at nearly 70 would he want to head back down south.
-
Yeah for us........... Have you not been taking note of what has happened this season when opposing teams go down to 10 or even 9 men - we DO NOT win...... It would have been better 11 v 11.
-
Just back in too. The post above sums it up perfectly. 11 v 11 we looked the better team. Why oh why can we NOT play against 10 men I think we got our answer to whether the break would help or not. Utd were more up for the game and we looked lethargic. We were unlucky with a couple of offside decisions which may well have been correct, but both times the ball ended up in the net. Murphy should have put us 1-0 up and it might have been a different game. Disappointed but not downhearted. I would have jumped at Top 6 after Gannon left and we are there. We still need to play Hibs and Utd again, but in all honesty I think on today's performance 5th is as good as it will get. Let us at least try to say ahead of Hearts. Let's also hope United perform like that against Raith in the Cup. We need to see what the team and Craigie Brown are made of and get back on track against Falkirk.
-
No your not - I can assure you. I also want Rangers to beat DDee U - hopefully after a draining extra 30 mins , simply because I can see Raith giving DDee UTd a tougher game than possibly Rangers. Have to say Raith and Ross C deserve to be in the semis - but fingers crossed that is as far as they will go
-
OK - so say Hearts make the top 6, then surely that means we would be scheduled to play 3 away and 2 at home after the split, yet would that not mean us having to play 2 more away games than home games over the course of the season - not for the first time I might add Something to do with the fact the SPL either expect Motherwell to make it or not - and usually they call it wrong every time!
-
Runner Up/Fifth Place - Flamurtari Fourth Place - Steaua Bucharest Third Place - ????????? Tough call really when you look at the respective teams and rounds from last year. If we finish 5th we could get another Flamurtari and win comfortably or we could do a Falkirk and lose to an FC Vaduz. 4th place and we will likely face a St Bucharest and find the going tough, but with Paw Broon in charge - you never know. 3rd place and you can probably accept the best we will get is one home and away tie to glamour opposition. On that basis I would probably rather Motherwell finished 5th - assuming that is good enough to get a Europa league place. Best tactics are to go for 3rd/4th and we will hopefully finish no lower than 5th. Would love a Spanish or Italian tie. Fingers crossed. A real glamour tie against Roma, Juventus or Valencia - at least that way we would be guaranteed a home crowd of 5092
-
That is a good draw for the 5th placed team. You would expect Rangers or DDee Utd to beat Raith Rovers and Ross Co will have to beat Hibs and then Celtic to get to the final. Quite frankly if they do that - then they deserve a place in Europe....
-
Pretty much spot on - if you look back over the years even back to the 70's we were as capable of getting crowds of 8000+ as we were 3200. We seem to have a die hard fan base of between 3500-4000 , any extra on top of that is down to the economy, the entry price and more so the away crowds, which have fallen away dramatically. Against St Mirren last week we had approx 600 fans on a Tuesday night. That represents 15% of our home gate and when we take 2000+ to some cup ties that is 50% of our fan base. Hearts yesterday took less than 4% of their home support to the game yesterday. We do take some poor crowds to the likes of Pittodrie and Easter Rd etc, but I would suspect our away support expressed as a % of home support would be right up there with the rest of the SPL. We are where we are
-
My mate and I say the same thing each week. Big game today - hope there is a decent turn out, yet we both then go on to say that we will get up to the main stand, look out and see all these empty seats - and yet again we were not disappointed............ Football is expensive and the recession has not helped matters, the away support has fallen away altogether especially Hearts and Aberdeen. Yet we have just gone 12 GAMES unbeaten and are challenging for a place in Europe. Jesus C - what would our crowds be if we had not won in 12 games. I should not get depressed, but I do - this team has a great support, but DESERVES a much larger support!

Whats The Score With Shaun Hutchinson's Injury
Welldaft Mk1 replied to Wellworn's topic in Club Chat
It is a question I have been seeking an answer to for a while. At least that clears things up a little. I suspect we will need him to replace Reynolds when he is sold in the summer. You just worry that the moment he is back he may get another injury Hope for his sake it is not another Ledley King scenario! -
Hearts are probably a tougher proposition now that Jeffries is back in charge. That and they have a few players back from injury. IMHO Goncalves is the best defender outside of the old firm and Reynolds - of course Yet they have only won 3 games away from home all season, they are scoring on average 1 goal a game. We are at home unbeaten in 11 games. So in short it will be a tough game and one that Hearts will realise that if they lose the gap for 5th place gets a whole lot wider. It depends what we do. If we score no goals then obviously the best we will get is a draw, if we score one goal then I do not see us losing and if we score 2 or more then I reckon we will win. 1-0 or 2-1 for the Well. Let us hope that this game can excite the stay away fans to come out of hiding, dig deep and get behind the boys. It would be great to see a 6000+ crowd for this game. Hearts will bring 1000+ through for the game. YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU.

Fact is that the runner up spot in the cup gets the Europa league slot. If that happens to be one of the 4 teams currently above us then if we stay in 5th - we get that place. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that Hibs, Celtic, Rangers/DDee Utd and preferably Raith Rovers get through to the semis. Normally that would happen, but since we are hoping it does I half expect Killie to beat Celtic and/or Ross Co to beat Hibs
-
Just watch for Ross Co to beat Hibs or Killie to beat Celtic........................Would never happen unless of course we as the Well have a good reason for wanting these results. I am sure we have been here before and seen teams outside the top 4 get to the final. Semi final line up of (hopefully): Celtic Hibs Rangers/DDee Utd Dundee Dundee on their day could take out either Hibs or DDee Utd. 1st time I would be rooting for a non old firm semi final. Still a long way to go - but I would be confident of at least finishing 5th if we win the next two games.
-
YET ANOTHER GREAT RESULT I think we have pretty much secured top 6 barring a massive collapse......especially as the Dons have to play St J in one of their games in hand. If I knew 5th would get us in Europe I would probably take it now, mainly because we would get a game against hopefully beatable opposition and have the chance of more than 1 trip back to Europe. Finishing 3rd would mean playing a fairly big team like St Bucharest or Nancy and probably get humped at the 1st hurdle...although it would be a nice problem to have. Let's just keep bumbling along picking up points and see where it takes us. A draw in the DDee U v Hearts game would be a good start.
-
Bloody fix - Jordan was MUCHO better
-
have the boys been on yet?

At the very least I think we will have to re-turf the section in front of the POD stand. The rest of the pitch is poor but this area is appalling and cuts up as soon as the plyers run onto the pitch! It is a big area but it cannot continue to play like that or we will have a match called off. The areas in front of the goals were re-turfed and look ok since that was done. I am quite sure there has been a level of incompetence in the way we have looked after the pitch - but there is no denying the fact that we have had the worst winter in many decades which has made the job of maintaining the pitch almost impossible........ Maybe we should announce an enquiry into the SPL and the way they are running the game and conducting TV negotiations. They are more feckless than the rest of us put together.
-
Expect a backlash......................will make them more determined. That said we are at home and have (dare I say it) only conceded 1 goal in 7 games. We should try to take the game to them. We need to keep putting points on the board/table, preferably 3. Get stuck in.....
-
I am with you 100% Frazzle. Arnott is a legend and always will be. This is no misty eyed look back in history. He was our Wayne Rooney - only not so ugly and probably not so talented. My fave player over 35 years - not hear a bad word against the barman
-
F#ck em I say. What do people expect when we play football in the depths of winter. The pitch is like mush and even walking on it would damage it let alone St Mirren trying to play football on it. If they want perfect pitches then they should build indoor stadia with a sliding roof.

JOB is a bit of an enigma to be sure.....he sometimes flatters to deceive and there are games where his trickery amounts to little, yet he is a creative force and when he is on his game v killie and Dons (for example) then he can be the difference between 3 points, 1 point or getting none. I hope MM does not make a last ditch effort to prise him from our hands with the reported £500k they are about to get for Miller from Boro. Both are out of contract in the summer and out of the two I would rather have JOB. Yet it would not surprise me to see us getting a derisory offer of £50-100k.. I doubt we could match or get near the wages that Aberdeen or Hearts (especially) could or would offer and that is assuming no-one from down south comes in with a bid. Like to see him stay till the summer unless we get offered silly money...thereafter I suspect he will be offski - hope I am wrong but it is more than likely. What we must not do is sell him to one of our nearest rivals for a top 6 spot
-
Before today I would have agreed with you - but after today's result............maybe not.
-
I have had a crackin weekend so far - but that just adds cream to the top. A Murray win tomorrow would go down well also. I never expected after they beat Hearts 3-0 that we would get anything other than maybe a point if we played well at Pittodrie. Chuffed to bits - Mon Jack & Victor........top 6 here we come. I feel sorry for Mark McGhee - NOT A few beers tonite at the very least.
