  1. It is a quandary. As has been mentioned on here the club are also in a position of trust. If you sell a vision and then renege on that then it maybe puts doubts in the minds of potential signings. By that I mean if we turn down decent offers and offers that in principal meet our valuation you risk having an unhappy player on your hands. I have always believed that whilst it is obvious what we can get for our players is a LOT lower than if they were playing for teams down south I also see that as the case v the City clubs up here. It looks like McGinn will go for £3m or possibly more with a year left on his contract. He is a decent player to be fair. The more obvious comparison is McKenna at Aberdeen. The bidding rumoured to be in the region of £4m ! Is he four times better than Cedric ? Were Carson at anyone of the City clubs as a (now) established internationalist he would be £2m +. I suspect we will be lucky to see half that or less even........ Anyway we now wait and see whether we lose anyone else for a fee from Cadden, Carson and Campbell. Expect it to be the either Carson and or Cadden. Serious Q - unless someone offers us £1m+ for Cadden would we not be in a position to get a significant development fee if he were to leave at the end of his contract ? I recall we got circa £600k for Erwin from Leeds.
  2. Still nothing official other than a welcome to Wigan Cedric tweet from a Wigan related fan site. If it does happen then I would imagine it would leave us with only Les as a debtor as Boyle if I recall was owed circa £100k. We would still owe Les a singnificant chunk in the region of £500k+ but to get it down to this amount from nearly £2m would be a hell of an acheivement in such a short space of time. Then of course we still have saleable assets in Carson, Cadden, Campbell and even Dunne. One or more may still move in the next week or so. I am sure or certainly hope that it would be a case of anyone going out will be replaced, if not on a like for like basis then near as damn it. If Kipre is gone then I would only like to see one more moving on at most. Cadden with one year left seems an obvious one, but even if he stays and does not sign a new deal we should be due decent development fee along the lines of Erwin possibly more. Interesting times !
  3. It does in the final paragraph. A sizeable downpayment plus.....that could add up to the 7 figure sum. In all honesty that would make sense. In the real world should be be valued at £1m after one full season as a pro. In the world of English football he is probably worth many multiples of £1m !
  4. We have to be very careful. We are in the business of selling players but it is not that long ago that Dundee United sold 3 or 4 of their best players for a small fortune but where did it get them. 3 years in the championship...... I cannot imagine we need the money after the cup runs from last year. PS - Milo - your invite is in the post :-)
  5. I heard Cadden and Carson are doubtful and with Campbell suspended and Kipre possibly away. If we get anything from Sunday it could be a minor miracle.....
  6. That is fkin depressing on almost every level if true. Yes fantastic value for a player that cost us nothing, but with other injuries etc we could be missing half a 1st team at Hibs. Not only that most of the money goes to previous owners. The sooner we pay them off the better. If he goes I hope he becomes the player we know he could be with a bit more experience
  7. If Carson has a dodgy shoulder then that would kybosh any transfer surely. If Busta knows about it then I am quite sure any prospective buyer will also ! Either that or it would affect the price we get for him. Probably should move this chat to the ins and outs thread.
  8. You and MJC should get together for a party......that would be a lot of fun..... I trust the Manager and Lasley and I think the squad is on the whole stronger than last season. Of course with Dunne and Bowman out for 1st part of season and Tanner yet to return it could be stronger. Also heard Carson may not play on Sunday ? All that said I think we have 4 strikers that can all play and deliver through the course of the season. Also back up goalie looked OK in his pre season run out. I don’t think we will get as far in the cups this season but think we will match or better our league position. We have a tough start in terms of games but in truth I would rather play Hibs in 1st game and with them being on the back of a tough away Euro fixture. We could get horsed but then again we could also easily get some sort of result on Sunday.
  9. I see that Lawless has signed for Livingston. Just in time for our cup tie..... Their fans certainly seem very pleased at this - one describing it as their signing of the summer ! Mind I don’t know who else they have signed bar Kenny Miller as player / coach who probably would have a bigger impact than Lawless even.
  10. On artificial pitch. They have just replaced the grass Still all you could ask is to avoid the Top 4 Euro participation teams and we managed that.
  11. By Christ that was brutal for at least 75 minutes. The amount of stray passes and poor crosses..... We started not too badly but the injury to McHugh seems to have a negative impact or it was around that time we turned to complete shit. Hartley is a worry. Had a big part in costing the 1st goal and nearly sold the jerseys again in the 2nd half. I hope the 7 months out has not impacted him that much. He needs match fitness and it is to be expected to take time. But we do not have that luxury sadly. Frear was MOM by a distance. I thought the subs did well. Gorrin grew into a game and Johnson knows where the goal is even if it takes him several attempts :-) Not great but a win coming from 1-0behind on another shite plastic pitch in a howling gale. Another game we could so easily have lost or drawn but did not. Big improvements needed for the upcoming league games or we will have a woeful start. All that said I will wait till that happens before going on the we are sh1te offensive like many on here do as default mode regardless. Not being seeded is a bummer as it is almost a certain we will end up with one of the 4 Euro participating sides and probably away ! Just the way it seems to go......
  12. Good story. Do let us know how you get on as the season progresses........
  13. I agree in so far as we tend to hoof the ball up front far too often and when we try and play on the deck - either through the middle or down the sides we can play some nice stuff. But for all that this team and Manager and tactics have proven to be effective last season and even so far this. I have supported Motherwell for over 40years and plenty of sides I have watched would have made tonight a hell of a lot more uncomfortable and possibly even cocked it up ! I would love us to play like Barcelona or even remotely close but I think too many on here forget wha our budget is and what type of players that affords us.
  14. It is callled tough love. To be honest I liked the fact that Robbo was going mental even when we were winning. He sets high standards and / or has high expectations - that is no bad thing. Too much and players may get pissed off, but I think he has the man Management skills to get them sorted off field. Better that than the Malpas frozen statue approach from the sidelines. Kudos to Sammon. 2 well taken goals and let’s hope he is up and running. Cannot challenge for a header for toffee, but I think he will do OK for us. Carson, Cadden and Sammon my MOM with very decent performances from Campbell and McHugh. On the latter he is just a better player in defence than midfield which may be his undoing when Hartley and Dunne are fit. The whole not being seeded is a worry. I do remember last year thinking (iirc) when Hibs were unseeded and ended up drawing someone like Dunfermline at home and us a a seeded team Ross County away - what advantage was that. But u can bet your house on us drawing the old firm away or the other 2 involved in Europe. Just the way it seems to work for us. We still need to beat Clyde first - hopefully another proefessional performance will achieve that.
  15. Very nice of you Dave. I actually dont mind Pie and Bovril. If you think our thread is bad you should see the car crash that is the Dundee, St Johnstone and Hamilton threads.....Some good posters on the Motherwell thread such as Capt Oats and Swello to name but 2. As for beating Rangers and Aberdeen. My point was not about those games individually as of course we can beat any team (bar Celtic it would seem) in a one off knock out games. My point all things considered was that reaching 2 cup finals and beating Rangers and Aberdeen en route was a hell of an achievement on our wage budget compared to theirs. Anyway this message board and Pie and Bovril is very much along the lines of the team are only as good as their next game or last !
  16. You won the moaning git contest so that is something. Mind it was a close call Not defending today however and agree with comments on Main. He has looked off the pace. Lucky to get £2 for Kipre based on last 2 games. But did not get too excited when we got to 2 cup finals last season so will not get too down before Tuesday and where we end up in the group.
  17. How the fuck do we miss 4 penalties. Utter shambles. Even if we win midweek we will not be seeded and probably draw Celtic next round. Thankfully did not travel down today. Tha would be a right boot in the balls
  18. Whatever the outcome we need to win Tuesday v QOS. Even that may not be enough to be one of top 4 seeds !
  19. They sound the better side. Had more shots on and off target and just hit the bar a few minutes ago.
  20. BBC site states 4 shots on target for them v 1 for us ! Finger oot Motherwell please.
  21. I very much doubt anyone else will be signed unless someone leaves and even then it may depend on who that is. I see Liverpool paying a miserly £67m for yon Brazilian goalie. World has gone mad. We will probably be lucky to get £750k for Carson assuming anyone bids despite the fact he is in his prime and an International goalkeeper. Maybe we are blinkered as Well fans, but I am fairly certain Carson could do a job in the Chamionship and would hardly embarrass himself even in the Premiership.
  22. Just back in from a sunny East End Park. The Manager says it is all about getting minutes under their belt and match fitness and he seems happy enough. The opposing Manager seemed impressed with our pressing style and physical presence. So probably should not read too much into it - but I felt it was rather mundane and we huffed and puffed a lot without playing too much football. Thought the new keeper looked composed and had a good save second half as well as good positioning in box to snuff out any threats around edge of the box. Apart from that Scott again looked OK with a short cameo. Bigi did what Bigi does which is come on and play some nice passes. Cedric looked like he was still on holiday but I would forgive him almost anything. Lookinf forward to the competitive games starting next week.
  23. He would need to find a reliable car first to make a success of it......
  24. Just seen that Darlington beat Sunderland 1-0 tonight. Not sure we will be ready for Champions League this time next season.......
  25. A wise decision and one that should be applauded. That said one wonders if it may have been made for him had he not done so himself. A fully firing McHugh back to his early from would be permanent fixture in midfield, but not necessarily based on some of his form towards end of season. Time will tell whether it will work but I am fairly certain that Hartley will be much more vocal during games. You don’t always need to shout and bawl but I felt his character was a bit reserved / quiet for the Captains role.
