Scottish Premiership Game 2: St Johnstone (A) Saturday 12/08/17
Welldaft Mk1 replied to Ocelot Groomin''s topic in Club Chat
I read most posts on here and they range from doom and gloom YA Bezzer and Steelboy to some overly positive posts that probably are too optimistic. Thankfully in between you read some you agree with. A good post from Kmcalpin which echoes most of my thoughts. We were the better team in the 1st half based on possession and territory. Sure we did not create many clear cut chances but most of the game took place down the other end of the pitch from our fans. Defensively I am starting to wonder if we are any better than last season. Should we be playing 3 at the back v teams who are arguably better than us and I include St J in that bracket for now. Their 1st goal came from their 1st attempt and seemed a bit jammy. But seems to be the way with us of late. We can have 5 chances and no goals and other team just needs one. Samewith 2nd goal. Still I was confident we would get back in the game 2nd half based on 1st half. Then the wheels came off aided and abetted by an utter loathesome referee. I have the conclusion Motherwell have wronged him at some point in the past. He has always (as far as I can recall) been wholly awful for us. Even taken the red cards away the decisions made again were appalling and baffling. As someone mentions a Saints player can take a throw in 10 yards up from where the ball went out - nothing. We try and take a free kick one yard from where it should be he goes into meltdown. He has become out anti referee imho. Sure there are other suspect ones but every time he takes games with us I am left screaming at him..... It was a bizarre game and yes there are worries. Up front we seem weak. Moult off form and Bowman being Bowman. Works hard and holds ball up well, but looks no nearer to scoring. I think Fisher is better but again looks like he could play all day and not score.. midfield we do seem better but for me Biggy was quite poor today. Carson is a HUGE improvement on Samson but red card was avoidable. Kipre and Heneghan are quite decent as us Dunne but each seem capable of Clangers. Today was important as I did think it would set tone and expectation for season ahead against a team and a venue we have struggled last few years. I was positive based on last week v Rangers and midweek and whilst I accept bad luck and awful officiating played its part I am sadly not looking past another relegation battle based on today. I am hoping it was a bad day at the office but defence seems as leaky as before. Not a good recipe for a successful season. Hope I am wrong -
True but proves the old adage that same player is sold for 3 or 4 times just because they are down south. If we end up with near enough £1m then yes excellent return but nowhere near the £2m or so Oxford may get. That said their Chairmna was all Philip Coutinho earlier in week at fans forum. Will not be sold regardless. We shall see...

Doubt it with both Celtic and Rangers being away to Dundee and Partick respectively. I admit it I was a pant wetter tonite. Too many times we have lost leads, but after performance on Saturday and tonite I am starting to think Robbo may have put together a side that will provide us with more ups than downs and a big improvement on last season. Going to Perth on Saturday at what has been a tough ground in recent times. Another positive result and we can start to believe :-) -

We are absolutely incapable of protecting a lead. Every single fkin time Any other team ahead against us has it relatively comfortable. Probably best we can hope for is penalties now -

If we get through. A home tie welcome after zillions of away ones -

So Rangers have had 21 shots at goal and scored 6 goals. We have had 15 and scored 1. Twice as many shots as Ross County. Hopefully does not come back to haunt us !!! -
Hopefully he got feck all, but I would guess there would be a discussion along the lines of we don't want you here and we could (if they did not) go through HR process and it would probably result in dismissal or similar or here is a small pay off - now bugger off. What would you like ?

Multiple reasons for that I would guess. Every contract is a gamble of sorts. Moult has worked in our favour, clearly Blyth has not. Some of these players probably believe they are worth more than we can afford and so they and there agents won't commit to more than a year. Problem is of course if they tun out to be a find, then if they are any good they walk away for nothing. Kipre is a possible example. We would probably want to offer an extended deal but he could double his wages if he even went to Hibs or Aberdeen or triple and more by going south. As for the youngsters argument. If they are good enough like Cadden they will get their chance. We can debate all we like. I like McLean and had he not had his injury he may well have played his way into the 1st team this season. But those are the breaks. He will get some opportunities this year and if he takes them great. -

Re the absence of Bigi. Flow has supposedly confirmed he was unwell last night. Hope there is nothing more to it. Disappointing today and no surprise the final outcome. It is like watching the same movie over again when it comes to playing Rangers. That said I saw enough today to suggest we will be a better side than last year. Not surprised to see the usual overly negative posts - same old from the usual suspects. Try focussing on the positives for once - Christ knows it may cheer you up as well as the rest of us. Rangers may be no great shakes but they have just spent £10 or so million this summer. We could never sign the likes of Dorrans or even Ryan Jack. I thought the defence played very well and Kipre and Dunne look decent additions. Elsewhere Cadden looked good when he put his mind to it. Should do it more often. I actually though Tanner did OK and could potentially be a very good signing. I wish every cross he put in was fantastic, but some were and there is a reason he and others are at Motherwell and not Man City. They are going to be inconsistent during the 90 minutes. As for Moult - still probably not quite fit and was a daft challenge to give away the penalty. I am quite convinced we would never had got it were up the other end of the pitch. He was disappointing today and I suspect he will be here for the season. He has a huge reservoir of goodwill - from me at any rate, so will not vilify him too much. Disappointing result but a semi decent performance and hopefully we can go again midweek -

I am at the game and feared the worst after 10-15 minutes. But we have looked quite good going forward and decent in defence. By that I mean central defence. Playing 3 at the back gives no cover at right back and Rangers getting most joy in that area. I may live to regret this but already the team looks to have more about it than last season -

Not according to Expert punTIT Stephen Thompson. Rangers will win because they are stronger than Motherwell. He gets paid for that sh1t ! He may be right but I fkin hope he is not ! Not at least for the 1st game.... I hope we get stuck in about them. Give them no respect - cause they are not due any. And we have our superhero mascot who is growing on me already. The power is with us on Sunday -

Is there any other draw for Motherwell. Our 1 millionth away draw in the last 1million and 1. It is beyond a joke. Rangers at home to Dunfermline was as expected as us getting a shitty one. Stops a lot of fans going with it being so far away and midweek. Only benefit is our record v Ross C is better away than at home -
They inevitably will... I am less bothered about Thomas than I am Erwin tbh. Dom may prove us all wrong and thrive at Killie. But I really warmed to Erwin in his last few months with us and was sorry to see him go. History has proved it was the wrong decision in terms of his career imho even if it meant more money. I still think there is a very good player in Erwin. No offence to the lad, but I now hope I am proved wrong !
-
If as expected Moult leaves then I would not be agin Erwin coming back. I would rate him better than either Fusher or Bowman He came on to a game last few months with us and there is a good player in there Read something about him being in talks to come back to Scotland. Doubt the old firm, so possibly Hearts, Hibs or Aberdeen ? Doubt we could afford him, unless we are about to hunt Blyth and even then

Totally agree. A real shame he got injured when he did. I thought his performance against Celtic in the 4-3 game was very promising. -
I don't disagree with the 3 front runners Which makes all the more puzzling BT Sport chose Cadden. Not that he has a bad game but no McHugh or Kipre ???
-
Quite why I am I don't know but I am bewildered why no-one has put a decent offer in for Moult. You can bet your ass if he played for Hibs or Dundee United he would have gone for £1m+ by now. 36 Goals in 2 seasons in a struggling side. I actually don't think he is a great footballer but he is clinical in front of goal. This has all the hallmarks of Randolph. Ends up ROI and West Ham goalie and we never got a penny Quite bizarre really

They are packing the defence which makes it hard to break them down. No real surprise. But we seem so pedestrian and predictable. I particularly like it when we get past the half way line we chip the ball to nobody and almost always out the park -
Has he not been permanently injured ! Total waste of space. I think Bowman will be kept on. He scored a decent goal last night and is solid back up
-
Could all be true - but if we get any money for Henaghan. He is worth a dime to someone Cadden has shown his potential but agree he has not carried on from earlier season form. As for Moult. You could realistically compare him to Boyce or a vast array of other players whose valuation is vastly overinflated. Jamie Walker for £1m for example A lot depends on whether he signs an extended deal - unlikely ! But imho a striker that can score 15-20 goals per season in a struggling side - a valuation of £750k is not outrageous. Anyway time will tell...
-
I wouldn't. He was up and down last season but he is still very young and to sell him to a direct competitor would not be an astute move imho. Hopefully this will bring others out the shadows. Could be a huge month ahead if we are to find replacements for Cadden, Henaghan and Moult! FWIW - my realistic valuation of each player would be: Moult - £750k to £1m Cadden - £500k Henaghan - £3-500k
-
Last point on this as quite simply anyone who resorts to name calling and swearing and considers it an appropriate response is beyond help. I also note you had managed to antagonise someone else on this thread. Good going. Hope that is a suitably patronising response for you !
-
Wow. Just seen this response this morning as out last night for end of season East of Scotland dinner. Good evening all told after a wee hiccup :-) Special thanks to Douglas Dickie for making the trip through. Top bloke. Well well - I would rather you did not tell me to go away in the fashion you did. No real need for it. If it continues maybe the mods can deal with it rather than myself.
-
It takes all of one second for these responses to appear. Any player we sign is sh1te/poor/underwhelming* I likes the look of Fisher - granted maybe because he scored 4 goals v us. But compared to Bowman ? Time will tell but with our budget and if rumoured beating other SPL sides then I am quite happy with this piece of business. I know an upbeat post - never catch on * delete as appropriate
