Scottish Premiership Partick Thistle V Motherwell Sat 8 Apr 15:00
Welldaft Mk1 replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
That made me laugh - kudos for that. Had a great day - booze and sunshine. Sadly the only thing that would ruin that was the football. 1st half was just woeful - on that form we are down. 2 no half a lot better but could have played all day and no scored. We have feck all luck all season. To compound it all our top scorer is injured for 2 crucial games. The SFA will probably screw us over - but we should be due 4 home games from next 6. Other results were kind to us. If we cannot avoid bottom 2 after next 6 games we deserve our fate. But FFS get up for the fight. Players might not but we NEED too. Thistle going for top 6 on the back of 7 game unbeaten run. Home crowd 3000. We need to get behind the team. A decent support in the run in will be key. -
I heard there was an initial fee of £4-500k + appearance fee for when he plays 20 or so matches + promotion bonus (which is now unlikely) + decent sell on clause. So if he is sold for £1m-£2m we would be looking at £7-900k or more if there is a bidding war. Either way as mentioned a very good return for an initial £40k or so investment.

I read an article this morning stating that Celtic were one of up to 30 clubs (yes 30) watching Marvin Johnson during the week against Bury I think. He scored the opener. Also the article also suggested we had negotiated a "substantial" selling on fee. With Oxford unlikely to gain promotion I hope we are in line for a wee windfall in the summer. Of course getting an additional £2-300k would be nice, but that would be offset against the fact that Oxford could get £1m+ when we got an original £4-500k. Is he that better a player than he was with us ?

I could be wrong but I don't expect both ICT and Hamilton to win their next games but I do think we will be 11th after Rangers game. The stat 3 from 18 is poor but when you see the opposition it puts some perspective on it. Their is a thread on Pie and Bovril not dissimilar to this. The interesting stat is that whilst we undoubtedly have the worst record v top 5 - we actually have the best (and taken more points from) record v bottom 6 teams than the others. That may change but there is no doubt the Hamilton game at home is crucial. Lose that and it does start to look bleak. Hopefully the fans will turn up for that game.....

Simple - don't give him any attention. The post was a mile out.. Where to start on yesterday's game. We certainly should have taken something from it. Maybe not all 3 points, but at least 1. We played well in sustained periods and it is typical Motherwell that after the one way traffic at the start of the 2nd half a defensive blunder and we are 2-1 down. That said we are because of injuries and suspensions playing players in defence out of position or who are not yet ready for 1st team football imo. I saw enough from yesterday to suggest if we continue to play with same application, but with a little more luck we should have enough about us to avoid bottom 2 spots. Quite how the Bowman header stays out at the death ? A few good performances and a couple of poor ones. I thought Cadden started slowly but got better. McHugh is a fantastic footballer. Nearly blundered at one point but our best signing this season. Moult was so so. Always involved in play but not the usual heights. Pearson was again fairly anonymous which is frustrating as he can and must do better. Frear I thought performed well and could be a vital player in the run in. All in all another disappointing result, but not performance. Robinson has made a difference and on another day we could have won. Probably come way with 0 points after Ibrox in a couple of weeks and will probably be in the bottom 2 positions, but then 8 games against teams around us. It is not going to be boring that is for sure.....
-
Agree with this It may be true Robinson was not 1st choice and it may be true that others pulled out at the 11th hour. But I am not sure how anyone can state categorically - the process was mismanaged or handled poorly, unless you are in receipt of the FULL facts then that is just conjecture, nothing more, nothing less. As it happens I am not convinced by Coyle. I am not sure he is what we needed and the fact he has not been around Scottish football suggest that would have been a bigger gamble. Hughes I could have lived with, but why would he pull out from moving from Raith Rovers to Motherwell. Even if we were relegated we would be a better option....

I see in the papers this morning he had other coaching opportunities / offers at English Premiership clubs. Maybe they know a little more about his abilities than some on this forum. Q the point that a good coach does not necessarily make for a successful Manager.....time will tell on that one
-
Come on now - talking sense. Won't catch on You need to get with the programme. Along the lines of - he is sh1te, totally underwhelmed, amateur club and no track record etc etc He may well prove to be a failure, but I genuinely don't get the fact that quite a few on here have written him off before he even starts as Manager. Way to support him and the club in a time of dire need. Makes my eyes bleed and my blood boil
-
This appointment gets of to a positive start already
-
Fantastic
-
Until May 2018. Given the other options quite happy with that. Obviously performed the best in the interview and no disruption. The players seem keen on him also. Let's see what Saturday brings
-
Crikey - we are all on tenterhooks ! My looking likely comment was in relation to your comments about The Hat being as reliable as Mitch. I think that is down to poor eyesight and not being able to tell what is a photoshop on Facebook (sorry Philip) rather than the great unveiling of Yogi as our next Manager. As stated earlier there were reputedly 5 candidates interviewed and we only seem to know 3. So could be a surprise yet !!
-
Looking likely....oh dear. There are some from the older generation that should steer clear of technology and social media
-
Is this fact Phil ?
-
So we know or believe that Robinson, Simo and Yogi have been interviewed. Who are the other 2 ? I think Simo would be a bigger gamble in many respects. Say what you want about Yogi. He knows the Scottish football scene better than the other 2 we know about. No idea where this is going. Still feel Robinson till end of season and we review from there. But a left field appointment possible Record are now quoting Hughes as favourite. I suspect all conjecture and no substance behind that article / story.
-
That is a fairly decent looking CV. Yes he is a bit of a muppet, but I would not care if he can keep us up and take us forward. They players can be referred to as a guid honest bunch o lads....
-
Something does not quite add up Mitch says it will be Robinson until the summer and if I was a betting man I would go with this. But I usually lose when I bet ! But was his post before 9am yesterday morning and yet Simo appears to have had his interview yesterday
-
If this is the case I am not unhappy with that. Any appointment carries a risk and with a new Manager it may take time to get to know players and best system. Time is something we do not have the luxury of right now. He is well respected both within and out with the club. Our last 2 performances have seen a marked improvement in application and attitude. The players clearly want to play for him. All things considered I think this is the best option at least until the summer. If we stay up then he would be a good choice for another season to see what he can do. That is if this is the case. No offence Mitch - but if I was your source I would think twice about sharing info with you if it is going to appear on a supporter forum.....

Scottish Premiership Aberdeen V Motherwell Sat 11 Mar 15:00
Welldaft Mk1 replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
How about an away win and a narrow defeat away to the 2nd best side in the league. I am not saying give the job to Robinson, but if anyone seriously thinks these past 2 results are not better than losing 7-2 away and 5-1 at home need a happy pill. Even my Aberdeen supporting colleague said we were a world away from the last performance. -

Glad your no my boss. Is a last minute goal conceded not by any stretch better than conceding 7 -

I don't think Dundee are out of it by any stretch. I am sure someone posted they have by far the hardest run in to the split. -

Aberdeen colleague texted me to say a good performance so far from Motherwell. They have had better chances but says Pearson and Skippy still class acts. Probably jinxed it now... Well fan friend also texted to say 3 good saves from Samson !! -
Is that not the job description ! Joking ! The point that has been made about Robinson. He will not be appointed on the basis of a couple of results, although any positive result today would certainly help him. He was Asst Manager of an International team at the Euros. Was our Asst Manager for a reasonable period. If there is a better candidate they will hopefully get the job. If not he is the front runner imho. Alex Neil would be a great choice. But given his salary is probably 10 times what we can afford. Very doubtful. That said he may fancy a couple of years back home to rebuild. We should at least ask the Q. Even if justvto p1ss of the Accies fans.

Don't see why not. Robinson will be very much in the race or any shortlist. Based on a lot more than the result last Saturday. Not sure about Owen Coyle. Very mixed record. If we give a decent account of ourselves on Saturday it would strengthen his hand. Would be prepared to give Yogi Hughes a go. A little eccentric but think he would be a decent shout. Not sure what his situation is at Raith however. Is he contracted there ?
